I've had my v2 for a few days now. I levelled the bed using the gcode from Chep (filament Friday) and all my prints so far have been stellar. Very very impressed.
I fell upon your videos while installing a BL touch on my Ender 3 V2. You gave off an Adam Savage vibe. I was totally sold. You have since helped me as a newbie to the 3D printing world. You have some of the best instructional videos on RU-vid. Keep it up!!
So much great info. Thank you. Also, I don't think there's another blogger who I don't have to speed up to not get bored. I actually had to turn on captions and go back multiple times. That's a compliment coming from me. Thank you for not boring the life out of me! And again, so much great info for this 100% novice. Stay safe!
I've had my Ender 3 v2 for a couple of months now. It is my first 3d printer and so far I'm very happy with it. In terms of complaints about the user interface, the solution is simple: Octoprint. I installed it on a very old Raspberry Pi version B I had laying around and it works great. I'll never use the Ender front panel or thumb drive again!
Thanks a lot, it's such a relief to see what I've bought is not a completed waste! My Ender 3 V2 is here, planning on assembling the same tomorrow! Thanks for all the content you produce, it really helps alleviate fear for 3D printing beginners like me.
I’d never thought about how many subscribers Bryan had until I saw your comment- my mind was blown. He makes videos like a channel with 100,000+ subs, I can’t believe he’s at just 10k! Congratulations are in order, indeed.
My E3V2 should be here on Wednesday. I have watch this and the assembly video several times and will be sure to use the assembly video during my build, thanks for doing these..
Great review ! Im new to 3d printing and i’m getting my brand new ender 3 v2 in the next few days (it’s being shipped right now.) Details in this video are great and well explained. Thanks for making me happy with my purchase !
Thanks for the review - it looks like Creality have paid attention to the Ender 3 (and 3 Pro) mods that have emerged in places like Thingiverse and incorporated them in to the standard product. Also, it looks like you've installed your filament reel holder bracket back to front. The way you have it, you won't be able to fit a full-size 90mm reel on it. That's certainly the case on the standard Ender 3 and the bracket looks identical.
Hi Steve! You're right, the drawer, belt tensioners, extruder knob are simple prints that a lot of people like to use (especially the extruder knob). And to move the PSU horizontally behind the printer there are printable brackets. I do appreciate having all these things already done on the V2, so I'm glad Creality rolled all that into the design. I honestly didn't expect to like that drawer as well as I do. I finally found one I like on Thingiverse for my Ender 3 Standard, and it's printing now. It's over 24 hours to print the drawer frame and the two drawers that go in it. And yes, I did the spool holder like that because most of my spools are only 65-70mm thick, and I think the bracket looks better with the metal folded toward the back. 🙂 So, purely an aesthetics choice on my part, but I'll know what to do if I get an extra thick spool. 👍
11:58 Great video as usual! 1 thing to add. Replace the glass bed with a double sided smooth PEI / Powder Coated Textured PEI spring steel flex sheet! I.e. Fulament, or other single sided alternatives similar to Prusa bed solution. And yes, GLUESTICK! Since your a very experienced user, we see you had no trouble getting your prints to stick and successful without destroying them, unlike some "other" reviewers! GREAT JOB! The Ender 3 V2 is so much better than 3 and the PRO for the money and it's overall "finished" product.
Hi Tim! Thanks! For the glass beds I keep a set of plastic putty knives for prying "large footprint" models off the glass. But I sometimes have to work a thin blade under one edge of the print. BIQU sent me their "Super Spring Steel Sheet" for review. It's double-sided, textured PEI. So I'm looking forward to seeing what it can do. The spring steel feels thinner than the Wham Bam spring steel sheets I typically use.
Another great informative video! I'm awaiting delivery tomorrow for the v2. I added on the bl touch, new bowden tube, and spring set for the bed. I still have the old printrbot metal that just refuses to function, so this will be a great step up.
I've been looking on Creality's site for the BL Touch kit that's got the mount for the Ender 3V2 but I haven't found it yet. I'm probably just not looking in the right place. 🙂
@@BV3D I ended up on Amazon and got it from antclabs. It was almost a stopping point at getting it, but i figured anything is possible with a printer. I have seen a video were someone printed the mount. I might give that a go until a model specific mount becomes available.
I've only seen a couple of your videos (I'm brand new to 3d printing I just got my printer Saturday) your videos are great and thank you for explaining it the way you do. I understand things better here than other videos I've watched. I also love your shirts! They're awesome
I'm glad you mentioned the fan noise. On my previous printer I fitted noctura 12v fans but I'm eager to find a simple solution on the Ender. It would also be good if it had a sleep-mode after a print.
Great info Bryan! I agree with everything you said about the v2 as far as likes and dislikes..One thing I disliked when I got my v2 was that there was NO 'resume' function..If you started a print and 'paused' it, there was no 'resume' button..Was a little frustrating and caused me to abort a couple of prints that I had to pause because of a filament break...BUT, after updating the firmware, there is a 'resume' function! Make sure you have the correct firmware..In the 'About' screen it should show firmware version 1.0.2 , most v2's will ship with version 1.0.1..go creality.com/download , click on Ender series then Ender 3 v2 and this is the file you should get Ender-3 V2_32bit_ 2.0.1V Latest Firmware_0814.rar dated August 14th 2020... Also, after the firmware upgrade the print quality improved dramatically without me doing a thing in my profiles! Nice..:)
Hi Jon, I'm glad Creality got that rolled into the new firmware. One thing I'd like to see in the "Tune" menu while printing is being able to adjust the flow rate (not the print speed). And it would be nice if the spelling of "Z Offest" was corrected to "Z Offset," and there was a way to save the value. 👍
I’ve had mine for about a week, already put a Sprite direct drive extruder, 4.2.7 board, CR Touch and Marlin professional firmware. Took a lot of fine tuning but it’s printing excellent now. I even printed an inlay to go in that tool drawer for spare parts and hardware.
9 months later there are quite a few upgrades available , tweaked versions of Marlin , Bl touch , better display firmware , dual z axis leadscrew kits and full metal hot end or direct drive conversions but the FIRST thing to do is change the bed levelling springs - the factory ones are too weak . This is the wonderful thing about 3D printing - it never stops evolving !
Thanks for the great video. While I do feel the Ender-3 V2 is an improvement over the Ender 3/Pro, I feel they have missed addressing a few basic design problems. Not enough attention is paid to the mechanical alignment of the XYZ stages. Much of that could be addressed by through inexpensive changes in construction and assembly technique. This accounts for much of the variability in print quality. The second major limitation is the hot end design. The direct coupling of of the PTFE tubing to the nozzle is a bad design and a frequent source of problems. Decoupling the Bowden tube with an internal metal tube as is done in the Swiss All Metal hot end would would fix that. Replacement of the hot-end assembly, is a tedious and time consuming process. Again, making this more modular and using quick connectors, would be a vast improvement. I do agree the 32 bit board is welcome and especially the simplified firmware updating. Silent fans of a higher quality at a small cost which most consumers would willingly pay for the improvements in durability and quiet operation.
What an awesome review!! I was looking around at so many printers as I am very new to the game and when I watched this video I had my final decision and order one right away!! Should be here in a couple of days!! Keep up the great work!!
You are awesome! Hope your channel grows, just starting to get into 3D printing and this review was extremely helpful in my decision for my first printer purchase. Cheers!
Well Bryan, Congratulations on the 10k subscribes can’t wait to see you at the 100k subs. I think that Creality Fell short on this printer. So for the extra money you get a few frills like belt adjustments. Unlike the anycubic Glass bed this one seems like a poor copy. I think it is actually missing two items 1) A removable spring steel bed. 2) Automatic bed leveling. Without these additional features from my perspective I think the pro is a much better deal. Again congratulations take care great video as usual and be safe
Hi David! Thank you! It took two and a half years to get to 10K, so I'm hoping it doesn't take 25 years to gget to 100K! I'll be REALLY old then! At the time the V2 came out, the price premium over the Pro was about even with what you'd need to pay to add a silent board to the Pro, to match the silent board on the V2 (even though the board you'd be getting for the Pro was 8-bit). But now with the price shuffling that Creality has done, particularly the current sale prices, it may be harder to make the argument for the V2 over the Pro. The price is currently US$60 more for the V2 (both printers are on sale, with the V2 at US$269 and the Pro at US$209). Though at full retail cost, the difference is only US$30. I'd like to see bed leveling and a spring steel sheet too. Maybe they'll make an Ender 3V2 Pro? 😉
This is an awesome printer, I have one and I can print Proffie Lightsaber hilts on it. I heavily modified it with a BL Touch and custom firmware. Well worth the money. Thanks for the upgrade videos, I think you channel is great.
Regarding the TPU: I have found that TPU can be a little hard to pull from the spool and the Bowden feeder will just chew it up. My solution was to just pull a length of filament and lay it down neatly to feed it.
Great review Bryan. Congrats on your subscriber count, the number sometimes climbs every minute, sometimes every hour, sometimes every day. Can never have too many sometimes lol
So here is a Question for you Bryan. I need to print some smaller part (~ 0.5"x1.25") that need just a little flexibility verses the stiffness in PLA. I have an Ender 3V2 that I just started printing with, thanks to your excellent tutorials. These will be single use items under high pressure for just a few hundred milliseconds. Thanks in advance for the advice. Dan
I'm surprised that you can't put files in folders on the SD card. Stock Martlin supports this in both V1 and V2 firmwares, so Ender must have bent over backwards to remove the feature. Stock Marlin also supports long file names btw.
I guess the interface doesn't matter for me, since I use mine through Octoprint installed on a Raspberry Pi. I do this mainly so I don't have to sneakernet the mircoSD between the printer and my PC with the slicer.
Looking for my first 3D printer (and I know virtually nothing about 3D printing) and the 3V2 is looking like a good candidate. Thank you for explaining the difference between the 3, 3Pro, and 3V2 as I was not sure the price bump was going to be worth it.
And, just today, my printer stopped halfway through a print, just stopped and had to be turned off. No it didn’t resume after that and I had to restart. I believe the reason was that my descriptive file name, which you can’t read on the narrow display, was more than 21 characters long. Well the much shorter file name did complete the 2 1/2 hr print with no new issues. More bits for the rejected prints bucket. I also upgraded the firmware, so easy I thought it hadn’t done anything.
Hi Klave. That's interesting about the filename length. Annoying for sure, but also interesting. I hadn't heard of that problem before, and I haven't run into it yet. But I've mostly been trying to keep my filenames short so I can read them in their entirety.
I think you might have a mystery glitch rather than a systematic error. I have sliced quite a few prints with PrusaSlicer 2.2.0+ and it makes enormously long .gcode filenames if you let it. It had one that was 58 characters long, not counting the file extension, and it printed fine on the Ender 3 V2. Try again and see what happens. Good luck.
Might want to check this out github.com/MarlinFirmware/Marlin/issues/18790 Have heard that this has been fixed as of build version from 9.7.2020 going forward. From what i have heard on this only happens if your printing from the SD card. I use a octoprint server so don't use the SD card to print so haven't ran into this problem myself.
Yery informative video. I've been considering this printer and this helps. One small thing, some if us aren't as technically minded as others. Maybe you could put a time stamp for when you give your pros and cons, after all the technical details. Just a thought. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Thanks for this review! I was very into buying a Prusa Mini but unfortunately I've noticed that I would have to wait four months... Crazy! Right now I'm thinking of buying a Ender 3 v2 + Micro Swiss all metal hot end. Since I'm okay with spending about 400 euros, I'm still trying to see whether I can add come other feature.
Hi Josef! I realize this is several months late, but THANK YOU very much! RU-vid rolled out this Super Thanks feature but, until very recently, didn't give creators an easy way to find them. Now they have, and I wanted to say I am grateful for your support!
Nice video! Currently in the market for my second fdm printer (Something to keep my trusty Maker Select v2 from getting lonely after all these years) and have been leaning towards the Ender 3 v2. I still can't really justify the price of a Prusia. Only feature it has that I would want is the auto bed leveling...but BLtouch would solve that.
I donated to your tip jar but I really think you should consider a Patreon for fans. That way the hardcore fans can provide perhaps useful and interesting feedback. :D Keep up the great work!
Nicely done Sir 😊 bumping into your video seems more like a sign from God, as I was already bitten by this machine via a friend. So am very pleased to know of the small issues prior to getting one, thank you 🙏🏻 You are very like me, I’m also finding a pun or two harmless enough! Your tips and advice were spot on and will be very helpful. I’m new obviously, yet hope that this will make some issues with model making a little easier. I will subscribe and wish you continued success ✌️
Hi Kyle! I realize this is nearly a year late, but THANK YOU very much! RU-vid rolled out this Applaud feature (now called Super Thanks) but, until very recently, didn't give creators an easy way to find them. Now they have, and I wanted to say I am grateful for your support!
Could you make a video on how to properly do a multicolor print by pausing at height with the Ender 3 V2? I've watched other videos and the setup with Cura causes the printer to pause for a filament change, but only for 10 seconds. I appreciate your videos so much. They've helped me since day one when I put the printer together. Thanks so much. Keep the videos coming. Cheers!
Great video Bryan ! big fan of your channel ! I was wondering if you experienced the Y-Axis stepper getting excessively hot on your E V2 ? currently dealing with that and i have just got the printer a couple weeks ago. any thing would be great ! ( Side Note, i have adjusted the stepper voltage to the minimum suggested from creality, also everything else is in tip top shape) have a good one !
Just ordered my first Ender 3 V2. But now my supplier tells me they discovered a main issue with the Ender 3 V2, and sent the whole lot back to Creality. During a long print job layer shifting occurs. Probably caused by overheating the stepper motor driver. They contacted Creality about this issue, but Creality does not have a solution and can't confirm the cause of the issue. So be careful when buying the Ender 3 V2 right now, wait till the issues are solved !!!
I got my V2 last spring and have been loving it, but I'm having 2 issues I have not yet been able to solve so I figured I'd come here and ask for help. One is bed adherence. If I print with a raft, it works just fine, but as soon as I try it with a skirt it just comes loose and I get spaghetti. I've tried glue sticks and even hairspray and the like, just no joy. I'd like to figure it out to save time and use less filament. Ok now on to problem number two, which is the more annoying of the two. I thought it was a similar problem, but then realized it's different... When I print something that goes on to the right side (as you're looking at the printer) of the bed, as it's printing the filament thins out until nothing comes out the nozzle, but then as it comes back over towards the left it start flowing again. When I figured out it wasn't a bed adherence issue and started watching it more carefully, it's almost like something it stopping the feed of filament as the X axis moves further from the drive... Ever seen anything like that before?
Both issues are a great example of bad bed leveling. Maybe your bed is uneven, do your bed leveling after every few prints to be sure that is not the case. How do you perform bed leveling?
@@ivanmagd BL Touch... How's that for a bad answer. When I first got it I leveled it manually and did a few prints. Then my BL touch arrived and I've never looked back. I have it run 9 points on the bed before every print.
My 9-year old grandson wants to print and design 3-D planes and rockets. Will this machine do that? Are there inexpensive programs or software to do this?
Great Video. Not sure if I should get this or an Ender 5 Pro. Have you an opinion. Both seem great. Ender 3v2 is a bit cheaper but E5 has its advantages too from what I am reading
Noctua doesn't make 24 volt 4010 fans, unfortunately. You can use a buck converter to drop the 24 volts from the printer to 12 volts for a Noctua, and I've got videos about doing that (not on an Ender 3, but the concept applies).
Just got an ender 3 V2 and came across your page. I wanna print your trash can and you said you upscaled it to the max, my question is what is the max I can print it at? Thanks for your time!
Hi, not purchase this printer yet, how often do you have to level the bed? I am considering buying a CR Touch, wonder if is worth the price? thanks, really GREAT video.
Wow very nice and entertaining review! I hardly watch review videos completely but I really enjoyed this one! I got an ender for christmas and so far its doing good my only problem are the clamps for the glass bed. They make the bed deeper in the center and higher on the edges next to the z-axis posts. do you know anything about this?
When you are talking about the rocket print, are you saying "base mode"? I'm new to this, and quick googling isn't helping me id what that means. Thanks!
Hi Eric! I'm saying "Vase mode," and it's also called "Spiralize Outer Contour." In this mode, the slicer prints the usual number of bottom layers, but then it goes around the outer edge of the model in a continuous spiral until it reaches the top (sort of like a Slinky spring toy). Sorry for the confusion, I hope this clears it up! 👍
Coming here from the Kersey Fabrications 10k stream and I find this review of Ender 3 V2 very good. Looking forward to see more content on your chanel!
Great video, thank you. I have not bought my first printer yet but it looks like it will be the Ender 3 V2. Question, on the Creality website, they offer a bundle with the CR Touch add-on for auto-leveling. How useful is this, or put another way, how hard is it to manually level and how often does it need to be done? thanks again
Awesome video and thanks for sharing‼️ If you don’t mind me asking, which glue stick works better and which isopropyl alcohol brand do you prefer/ works better than others?? Is there an upgrade to quieter fans?
Honestly the 2 major problems with the noise and fans dying, nkt a problem with me, have mine in my room and just sleep through it, and fans been running on multiple days of printing and no problem. ^^
Just built this printer and did my first test print. Not 100% happy with my bed level... Will try again. How do you know when the wheels and belt are tensioned properly?
