"Its A Cover-up Isn't It!" Kevin O'Sullivan Blasts Post Office Scandal Investigators

TalkTV's Kevin O'Sullivan and Alex Phillips are joined by Jason Coyne, who says he predicted the Horizon scandal before it happened nearly twenty years ago.
The government now plans to set aside 1 billion pounds ($1.27 billion) to compensate the wrongly convicted and others whose lives were destroyed in the scandal.
It comes after Stephen Bradshaw, a former Post Office investigator, is giving evidence to the Post Office public inquiry and has revealed he heard reports of problems with the Horizon software, but wasn't "technically minded... I would expect that to come from the people above"
Bradshaw, who was involved in the criminal investigation of nine sub-postmasters, also says he was just "a small cog in this."

As an investigator worth his salt where was his professional curiosity? If thousands of apparently unassociated people each told him similar information, one of two things is happening, either the similarities in the stories mean - Hes stumbled onto the single largest criminal conspiracy to defraud a Government agency in the history of the country and missed an opportunity to make a name for himself in the revelation. Or, That there might actually be some kernel of truth in the assertion that the system is faulty or being deliberately manipulated by a shadowy hand. The fact he didnt find either worthy of further investigation, makes him a pi- ss poor investigator and his insistence in only digging into the details of the numbers to prove the post offices position, suggests that he was only ever there for confirmation bias and that the post masters never had a honest hope of proving themselves innocent whatever evidence they managed to find to support their case. If he had applied his investigative curiosity he may have found the truth and kept his name clean but instead he is stuck on the wrong side of a criminal conspiracy that has ruined thousands of peoples lives over two decades.... I guess that's what you get for being a partizan hack

I believe this goes deeper, right to the heart of government procurement contracts and those civil servants that sign off the cheques. i.e. The Treasury. Looking at footage of Vennells before the select committee (from the documentary shown on ITV a few nights ago to coincide with the drama) it seems she is struggling to answer the questions and continuously obfuscates and waffles. It begs the question, was she covering the backsides of far more senior personnel at the cabinet office and treasury? Had she been given instructions to stall because Horizon was so costly it could not be seen to fail? Might it also explain why she was given a scandalously undeserving gong on leaving the organisation to keep her gob shut.

The Post Office was reducing the number of sub offices as the business model did not call for the existing (at the time ) number of offices to remain open. How convenient that a computer system would bring into discredit a large number of sub postmasters/mistresses and the closing of those offices plus the prosecutions and the monies that were confiscated at the time. So instead of paying out redundancy money they actually managed to get vast sums off the incumbent managers. Well it looks that way, does it not!

In Canada, we had the Phoenix Pay System, for federal employees, which to our government’s credit, they worked out the flaws, and took responsibility for, even though it was the previous Con government that had it installed. I think it took several years to overcome the glitches. Seems to be alright now.

A total bloody cover up

Anyone who says it wasn’t a cover up by the PO bosses and Fujitsu are living in a different planet. When you heard them tell each sub-postmaster that they were the only ones you know it was a cover up. The stories that have been told should be more than enough to send quite a few people to prison for a very long time. Will that happen? highly unlikely and that would be a travesty of justice. Why won’t they go to prison? Simple really. They are all in the same little group that will do everything they can to delay any chance of justice by any means that they can think of. They all have friends in high places that will protect them no matter what. That includes the judiciary and the police and MPs.

The lie that kept on giving "You are the only one having this problem". Shame on them all.

Somebody should investigate whether the closure of a lot of post offices coincided with this persecution of their subpostmasters would of saved a lot of redundancy money? Hope I'm wrong but I cant see this just being a software programming error for that long who commissioned this after it's trial? And it takes a TV drama to push towards where it should of gone long ago 😱

Hopefully, the inquiry will hold people to account that it finds guilty that a faulty system caused the problem

Here's the logic that the PO want us to swallow. A new computer system is installed and, all of a sudden, hundreds of Post Masters go rogue. Discrepancies are nothing to do with the computer system, must be the people involved. Those postmasters, a lot of whom would have been working for the PO for years without a hint of a problem, must all have decided to start a criminal career at the same time. I understand that, in the beginning, anyone with faith in the computer system, would be investigating the Post Masters, but, when the number of Postmasters got up to 900. surely even top management, not renowned for being clever, must have twigged that the system had flaws. Everything after must have been an RRRs covering exercise.

Sure, this is a wonderful "bombshell moment", but I still don't get what Jason was doing with this information for the following 20 years. Mainly just sitting on it? Maybe I don't fully understand the real cloak-and-dagger world out there, but I think I would have been out there everyday with the sole aim to expose this to the world.

It shouldn’t actually be the government (albeit primary shareholders), to stump up billions. It should be the post office and then the post office can get recompense from Fujitsu!!
