With the winds of winter blowing I've decided to emerge from hibernation with a quick little video about SSX3. Developed by EA Games Canada and likely older than most of the people watching this video, SSX3 was a staple of my childhood. I think SSX 3 holds up all these years later, but my own thoughts as to the future of the franchise are in doubt. This was asctually a pretty fun video to make because I gave myself the challenge to use only Hideki Naganuma Songs, but nothing from Jet Set Radio or Future. You forgot to add for freestyle if you get 200k points or higher in a single Heat you can instantly qualify for the final round instantly.

Also 100K to qualify for the final round in big air events. Making them usually the sort of easiest to get Platinum Medals on which are higher then Gold Medals but the scores and times to get them are much tighter for freestyle and Races.

SSX3 is also on XBOX Series X through backwards compatibility.

Bought SSX with my launch day PS2 and loved it. Tricky was even better. Unfortunately I missed SSX3. This makes me want to go back and give it a shot.

SSX3 was my favorite game growing up! Probably the entire reason I snowboard now as an adult haha I picked it back up a year or so ago (still have my OG ps2 copy) and the biggest "complaint" I had was the lack of outfits/ boards. I feel like there's 50 differen't beanies, but maybe 10 boards? (and honestly, I don't count the weird spaceship board, or unfolded box haha) Still, I absolutely love this game!

A remake between ssx tricky and ssx 3 would be the perfect game, maybe project gravity will be that game?

Agreed. Blending the two "SSXiest" titles would be the first perfect video game ever. That this franchise has languished in limbo for over a decade at this point makes me super (snow) cross.

As long as Stephen gets the rights to Skye Sims and Griff Simmons to make them the new generation Mac and Kaori despite Skye and Griff also belonging to EA, I’ll be fine with it since Mac and Kaori belong to Ea. Cuz originally I hated them both but now I like them Skye I like the most cuz of her appearance in the motion controls trainwreck known as SSX Blur she looks so mature in that game despite the Cel shading like graphics. Compared to her Bratty look in SSX On Tour she looks so immature in that game.

SSX3 is how I got introduced to the series, watching this vid brought back so many memories playing with Mac and Nate on SSX On Tour. Aww man

Agreed on all fronts man. I wish we got another reboot but for now SSX3 and SSX 2012 will have to do. They're the ones that are available on Xbox BC and imo they both hold up quite well. The issue with these types of games is that they're from a bygone era. People used to love motorcross, BMX, skating, snowboarding, and even some rollerblading games but the peak of all that culturally was probably the late 90s-early 2000s.

is that what ssx means, snowboard supercross ? lmao all these years I had no idea, im a big big fan of ssx3 btw, great video! edit: also I forgot to add, if you played the game on ps2, do not get it on the xbox via backwards compatibility, it uses the OG xbox control scheme, which means horrible. You're welcome who ever reads.

I played and still play SSX Tricky and love it. And I know at least in that game that yes thick snow, hard packed snow, and ice do affect speed and balance of the board. SSX and EA Big was legendary 🔥🔥 The characters in the games are great as well

I liked the individual levels you can just pick on the menu screen better in SSX Tricky. Unless there's been an update, I think only the original SSX on OG Xbox is compatible on the Xbox one.

Is ssx 3 like ssx tricky In the sense of whek you fill your trick meter can you do like ultimate tricks like in ssx tricky? Or is it just those uber moves you spoke of?

Only the uber moves. I guess technically the Monster Tricks (uber level 3) are the equivalent to the ultimate tricks

I'm surprised that EA haven't gotten someone to remaster this game for ps4, ps5 xbox and so on. Since they like money so much and many wants a remaster of it. 😂

I loved SSX, SSX Tricky was one of the best sports/ racing games ever, but SSX3 is where I started to fall off. It's also when EA (and gamers) were all "oPeNwOrLd EvErYtHiNg!" which ironically is what lost SSX3 a tremendous amount of style. Even when it came to sound/ music -you stated it yourself- boring and quiet (bear with me here). Now play Tricky *with the music off* and you will still hear bombastic fireworks, crowds cheering, animals and rivers, the boarders beefing with each other, Rhazel's electric commentary, and that oh-so addictive rollercoaster hill sound effect as you hold that grab till the very last millisecond. And then when we *do* turn on the music for SSX3, it's... yay, the same type of music you hear in every other sports game from EA Tracks (or, as you [or maybe another RU-vidr?] said, TonyHawk Pro Skater... and not even remixes like the phenomenal tracks from Tricky! And I admire EA wanting to synergize their "DJ Atomica" personality across its sports games, but he felt like some cheap "what do BabyBoomer devs think is cool in 2000" type of radio host. I want to go on, but I don't want ot spam your video with a rant. Great job and keep it up!

Wow so much trashtalk in one comment… the soundeffects are mostly the same files , and ssx3 ost was dope, nothing like a tony hawk ost, thats plain wrong … And the „open world“ is so dope , being able to ride for half an hour without needing to stop feels great. Ssx3 is the pinnacle, on tour fucked it up … more tracks than tricky, more tricks, more courses, more modes, more collectibles, more everything … better controls, insanely gorgeous graphics… btw: 2002 was not at all „everything needs open world“ … gta sa wasnt even out yet

Idk man, SSX 3 and SSX 2012 are great too. SSX1 was ok for the time, but it is the one SSX game that feels old. Tricky is where I fell in love with the series but SSX3 added a TON of stuff to it. It has better animations, more events, etc. SSX 2012 actually brought great ideas too. My only issue with 2012 is that the characters no longer feel as unique. That said, the amount of peaks and locales as well as sense of speed, animations, music... it can't be denied that it's a sweet game.
