In this video I continue to tidy up the underside of my 80,000 mile 2014 Jaguar F Type.
The video focuses mainly on a steel brace which ties in the body to the aluminium subframe - this was visually messy and had a lot of surface corrosion.
I also applied some more XCP Rust Blocker to various steel parts such as brackets and the front shock absorbers.

Great video. I'm surprised how little underbody protection Jaguar fits compared with the German marques - a BMW of that era would have plastic undertrays over the full underbody.

Thanks for the comment Sean - I agree! I That surprised me as well. The only ‘plus’ is that the car is on 80k and is now 10 years old and considering those two things there’s really not much bad with it at all with just bits of surface corrosion on any steel bits, so seems to be OK despite the lack of under trays.

Plastic would hide the visual inspection of the rust...it would still rust....and then what....it is about the air with salt spray/water and time...and cheap steel. Later Jaguars fixed the steel issue. This comment in no way is scientific - hiding things makes it actually more dangerous...the Jaguar approach is better.

Another great video Ryan. Yes, keep the bloopers in and can we have more cat cameo appearances please? 👍

I must say I've used XCP on my motorbikes, after I saw a comparison vid on YT. However, Ive not as yet been very impressed; one ride out in winter but dry conditions,.and many of the 'protected' nuts/bolts had gone rusty, following a week or so in my (dry) garage. I'm going to try Bolt n Hammer wax oil on my car this year, as both XCP and ACF50 have not worked well. Best option I've found is to rub off loose rust, use a rust converter and then a smooth Hamerite. I tried Hamerite direct to rust and after a while it just feels off. Remember to keep the surface clean, I just use brake cleaner.. Onwards

Yeah Jonny - we’re all learning. Good to hear your experience though. I’ll keep an eye on how mines doing over the coming months.

A great video, I’m sure that treatment will considerably extend the life of that brace! 👍

Nice job, one tip, dilute the first coat by about 30% min as this will dry quicker and allow a second coat to look or apply better. Then again, seeing as this is for protection and not to win awards it's an option or personal choice

Thanks for the input Chris! What would you dilute it with? I think that’s potentially a really good idea as have found in warmer weather it goes tacky too quick (in 20 mins or so).

@@RyanBengal1 Just a box standard paint thinner. Seeing as it's the under brace, one would have the luxury of trial and error. The 30% approximately worked a treat for me, barring published temperature and humidity settings for the time.

@@ChrisFEJackson Thanks Chris - as I said in the video I have used this paint a lot so I’ll definitely consider giving that a go whenever I need to use it in the future!

I like your videos Ryan, you do these jobs carefully and thoroughly. Is yours a 2014 car? I have a 2014 V6 S and it has these same issues, I think alll the early Fs have. I recently painted my back subframe & front braces, but I did mine on the car. By coincidence I also replaced rear pads like you, too (I did the discs at same time).

Thank you so much Stuart, really appreciate the feedback. It is a 2014 car yes. Would be interested to know more about what you did with the rear subframe, how long it took/what products etc. as it’s something It’s probably I’d look to do in the future.

The irony here is Jag were using the steel from their parent company, TATA and it turned out to be poorly protected steel which is not a great look. I think the new models used properly protected steel.
