www.timskipper.net - This was the official promotional video for Jaguar's XJ220 supercar, being driven around the Nurburgring with a cheesey musical backing. It was given to all owners with thier cars.
This car had no ordinary twin turbo V6, it was a Tom Walkinshaw-developed 3.5 L V6 based on the engine used in the Rover Metro 6R4 rally car and fitted with twin Garrett T3 turbochargers, generating 549 bhp (409 kW; 557 PS) of maximum power at 7000 rpm and 473 lb·ft (641 N·m) of torque at 4500 rpm. This engine was not the first V6 in Jaguar's history, but was the first to use forced induction
Thank you finally someone, has all of their facts. There have been so many posts on youtube that are inaccurate, some people argue over where the V6 came from, some people argue that it was a V6 at all, etc. My hat goes off to you, rock on.
@levrone007 It was a 7,0litre normally aspirated V12. No turbos. That and the 4WD made the car too long, too heavy and like you said it had trouble passing the emissions. Instead they used their racing bred twin turbo V6, which they already used in their Group C car in 1991.
THE REASON THEY CALLED IT " JAGUAR XJ220 " ; IS BECAUSE, THIS INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL MACH- INE CAN QUITE EASILY ACHIEVE SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF ( 220+ MILES PER / HOUR ) MPH !!!
The XJ 220 was supposed to be an utterly amazing supercar with a V12 Twin turbo but alas over a few short months bureaucracy decided to tame it down to a great supercar with a V6
for the price of a jag xj220 you could also get a mclaren f1 in the 90s. Around 2,5 million are paid for a mclaren f1 today, but only 500k for the jag. So if you bought a jag you made the wrong decision
LOVE the car... yet the song sounds like it's from porno of the time. XP They need more sounds of the engine revving. Man the shots of the car... and the car itself are great.
Yep its an officially documented time. The car could have gone several seconds faster if it wasnt for the absolutely horrible brakes(even for that time they were constantly critizied as terrible). Also near the end of the video it shows the seiko time readout.
I am utterly in love with this car.. But at least now I know why it flopped. I could make a better video by running the camera over with the car! ... now that's an idea
the 90's supersport cars where the fastest. No doubt, its impressive check the jaguar xj220 ferrari f50 maclare f1 mercedes clk gtr top speds acelleration etc and compare to a pagani zonda or a new jaguar or ferrari. they where faster...
