@ELJAY no skip said what type of player was Jalen. As demeaning as possible he combated with bringing up Skip basketball days. That was the arguement and that is why skip Lost
@@rilyjonez because the point of a public figure is you release your life to the public...especially when it deals with your profession....why u think there's such thing as IGN and Yelp!!!...however the thing that happened here was skip caught Jalen's underlying point which was if you haven't played at this level u should shut up....so everytime they held him to that he would bring feelings involved as if....nicknames isn't a part of entertaining the sports media....how come he don't complain about the positive nicknames like the truth or primetime...hell deion loves that so much thats basically his first name.... Sometimes ppl say things without saying them....and skip and Steven A both caught Jalen making a terrible assumption and they held him to it....for example skip pointed out that many to most GMs and Coaches aren't ex players and if they were most weren't that good at it....because as skip said....when your great at something sometimes u missed the details of things because ur a natural....so yessss Jalen was wrong....he was just another men being on t.v and emotional.....how many times u think Jalen called someone a bum on and off da court...let's be honest
After this debate I got a lot more respect for Jalen Rose. H'es just pointing out the responsibilities of journalism because sometimes these guys do cross the line.
Dom Wilson What the hell are you talking about? Obviously being a PRO athlete provides a better perspective for people who’re not PRO athletes. That’s just a fact. Just look at how both Skip and S.A.S utterly disrespect and assasinate players characters. While Ex pros give a more informed opinion on topics.
@@forzaacmilan36 That's not true lots of former players go overboard in their criticism. Have you ever watched Charles Barkley? I believe he is a Hall of Fame NBA player.
@@mikeh7220 Jerry West lost 9 straight finals yet no one ever holds that against him and he's the NBA Logo but they cream their pants at the fact that LeBron lost 6 finals... let that sink in.
@@mikeh7220Yes Jerry West definitely wasn't a bust, going 1-8 in the finals back then wasn't because he sucked. He lost because the Celtics were just better than everyone else, Wilt Chamberlain couldn't beat them either. The Celtics had Hall of Famers coming off the bench, that's just how great they were.
Jalen made a great point about Jerry West going to 9 straight finals and losing all of them...yet he is still regarded as Mr. Clutch?...lol today we wouldn't let him walk down the street! he's so right.
Skip got mad because Jalen called him bum basically but he sits on tv all day and calls dudes who are getting paid millions to do a job that not even 1 percent of the population can qualify for. Jalen basically gave Skip a small dose of his own medicine and he couldn't take it.
I’m not 100% on Rose’s side....I do agree that Rose insulting Skip was great and Skip DESERVED it!! But I disagree with Jalen on Kwame not being a scrub
@@mwcarolina to be fair he didn't say he wasn't a scrub, cause Brown was a BONAFIDE scrub but he said that he had to have some talent to be employed in the NBA and that he was not as good as his peers or compare to the great players of his era
To me Rose came off saying that Brown is worth playing in the nba...that was my issue with it. I’m great with what Rose said to Skip, really in my book THIS episode showed that Skip is a MAJOR hypocrite, but no doubt Brown was a scrub and really on that date, he shouldn’t have been playing in the nba
When they came back from commercial, Jalen killed Skip. "Are reporters fair game to criticize and slander like they do to athletes?" "Yeah!" "Well, that's what happened yesterday. 🤷🏾♂️" Silence...
Lol yep. And Jalen pretty much let out that they had to have this whole segment because Skip got hurt yesterday. Skip probably went to the executives crying saying that Jalen hurt his "great" reputation and the viewers won't respect him anymore lol. Like I don't know anybody who respects either Stephan A or Skip. I feel like people just watch them because they're loud and make an ass out of themselves and unfortunately, ESPN is basically the only legit 24hr sports channel and these idiots are on all the time. They trying to turn sports news into reality tv like gossip and bs.
@@arizonaFIREent I can't imagine growing up in "the hood". I've watched youtube videos of guys driving through hoods at night and gas stations... boyyyy boyyyy just terrifying
There's no way Jerry West would be Mr. Clutch, there's no way he'd be The Logo, 9 straight NBA Finals and lost?!? He wouldn't be able to walk down the street. #FactsOnly

I don’t think he was killing Stephen A, Skip? Yes!! Skip’s whole argument made ZERO sense. He gets offended for being called out with his poor basketball play and he thinks it’s “crossing the line” and he was wrong.
@@ericcunningham9776 Stephen a really know there's athletes and know more than he says. Teammates and ppl in their circle talk and spill the beans. Plus he use his platform to puts guys like Jalen rose on. Sas point is you can't disrespect the media when you're trying to be part of the media.
Jalen Rose is the man! Skip Bayless was given a dose of his own medicine by Jalen. Skip does not have it and makes a career out of sensationalizing his twisted opinions.
If you can't take it, don't dish it out! Skip got emotional and he looks silly talking about his feelings when all he does is attack athletes for underperforming. Buck up Skip!
As a fan. I'm glad that I got to enjoy MJ's career, in a climate where he didn't have to worry about exposes and attacks delving into his personal life. I think he and his family handled that fine. and privately.
Absolutely and no one is going to admit that. As a matter of fact if respect was given to everyone..no one would watch..there job is to keep the show interesting..screw the facts, screw feelings.. let's make it fun. Period.
bottom line is people who played the game will always think they know the game better than the ones who sit on the sideline just watch the game and talk about it, which i agree with
Jalen owned this argument from start to finish. It's no coincidence that he was never invited back after this segment, which by way is still being viewed and getting hits 5 yrs after it happened and counting. That is also no coincidence, because it was unfiltered and unscripted not like 99.9% of their shows past and present. Jalen was never invited back because he told it like it is with respect to ethics and sports analysts. The reason Jalen never came back to first take was Because Skip controlled first take at that time and everything having to do with that show, and Skip didn't want Jalen publicly calling him out the way he had in the segment before this one. In the end, By banning Jalen first take and Skip at the time validated Jalen's point.
Ahhhh.... I see Jake's point for a minute there I thought Stephen and Skip had him. But Jalen killed it when he said this is why he got into it, so he can be the opposite.
Wow. After watching this conversation, its pretty obvious that Steven and Shannon feel threatened by Jalen Rose who is an actual qualified analyst and has also mastered his sport. There are plenty of players who majored in communications and writing that can do Skip and Steven's job better.
The sad part is, is that when Jalen Rose points out the fact he asked Skip Bayless a question about his sports career, in a less disrespectful way, and Skip took it personal. Skip Bayless still couldn't see or he didn't want to see the point. Skip Bayless thinks its okay to ridicule players because they make big money? Also, Skip Bayless was so hurt about what Jalen Rose said on First Take, he needed to get an apology from him. At the same time Skip Bayless would never apologizes to athletes he openly disrespected. At least Steven A. Smith, preferences his comments now so more than ever, so that people knows exactly what he is talking about, what contexts he is speaking from and where he is coming from. Their is a reason one is still on the show and the other is not. Obviously, ESPN is not in agreement with that type of journalism otherwise the number one sports show would not break up its Award winning two man set up.
Skip got offered more money from fox and Disney/Hearst wouldn't match it, thats why he's not there anymore, nothing whatsoever to do with journalistic integrity.
They wouldn't let Jalen talk, he asked a question that stuck out, are reporters fair game? If you question my character can't I question your, if you get personal and call me a scrub can't I do the same with you, if you get personal?
Skip shouldn’t be allowed to name call anymore if he made ESPN run an episode forcing Jalen to apologize for name calling him. Skip’s reaction to this is what made it so famous. If Skip took it with stride then there’d be no problem
Jalen's comment around 2:00 mark is the whole cruck of the debate. Neither Skip or Stephen have done anything professional on the court. How you call somebody a scrub or bum! How many points or minutes they log on the court!
It's there job to analyze what the players do on the court. Just because Stephen A and Skip doesn't play, doesn't mean that they don't have the right to call someone a scrub. If he can't play then You have the right to criticize someone. I could be the worst player in the NBA and still realize that someone in the MLB is the worst baseball player. It all has relevance. That's what they voice it off of. If you can't play we have the right to comment on it
I'm not denying that. And Steven A actually agnoliges this. He always said that he was a scrub on his HS team. But Skip brings up the point that his coach hated him and he was never able to be the player he wanted to be. Now we don't really know if it's true but that's what he says. And he even said that the reason he was offended was because he thought Jaylen was calling him a lier. Not because of his game. So Steven A is no idiot cause he sees this within himself at HS. If it's anyone who could be the idiot it's either Jaylen or Skip depending on your side of the argument
I can't believe we had a whole episode about how skips feelings got hurt...if we had an episode for every time skip hurt someone else's feelings, the show could take 24 hours per episode.
The only thing I took from this is ESPN sucks for taking multiple commercial breaks during this. For one, it just fucks up the entire flow, when you've got something good going, ride it out. Two, you know damn well the argument continued during break, since this was a live show.... You're ESPN, tell the advertisers to calm down, they'll still work with you.
Jalen has one good point. Name calling and insults can cross the line for anyone. For example, when Skip called Chris Bosh Bosh Spice, that went over the line. However, if Skip or any reporter/media member simply said that Chris was playing soft or that Kwame Brown can't play and it is proven with his game, then I don't think there should be an issue. Being called soft, selfish, or timid is not slander if it is proven on the court/field. If an athlete is insulted, they can either tune it out or prove them wrong like how Chris Bosh is playing tougher recently than in 2011. Most of the media's criticism of players have some merit are not imagined from the source. To have NBA experience as a pre-requisite to say a professional opinion about a player's performance is ridiculous. Jalen seems to insinuate that the media cannot say anything negatively about athletes because they haven't endured the same tribulations that these athletes are going through except that these athletes are generally being judged by their game. Similarly, an athlete can ridicule a media member PROFESSIONALLY if they do something incorrect such as misrepresenting a statement from a player or organization. For example, when Skip said that Russel was being selfish, Skip pointed out how he has a high usage rate compared to Kevin Durant and how he takes more shots than Kevin which is a fair assessment. Now, if Russel wants to ridicule Skip, Russel should NOT bring up Skip's failures at high school basketball since that is more of a PERSONAL not a PROFESSIONAL criticism of Skip. Skip does not play basketball for a living, he talks for a living and his high school basketball career was an aspect of his personal life.
Totally agree. First smart comment I've seen. I don't think name calling is so bad if it's in a humorous way but I can agree with most of your points. Jalen seems to have the feeling that judging someone's game is judging them personally.
The point that Jalen Rose misses is that it's okay to bring in criticism to analysts, but it has to be on their job performance. What does Skip's HS bball performance have to do with his analysis? NOTHING. It was a cheap shot by someone not wanting to argue the issues.
No, you missed! that's why Jalen did that to Skip in the first place! He wanted to make the point to Skip that disrespecting people is inappropriate. Jalen is saying that you can critique someones play based on stats and based on play calling without calling them names like "Bosh" Spice... that's bullying and disrespectful because they have to live with that when they go home. His wife, children, parents, nieces, nephews and grandparents are asking him about that bullshit. Players paychecks don't warrant the disrespect. If it did, then its ok for Jalen to disrespect Skip because Skip makes more money than all of us! ALL Skip does is take cheap shots, at least Jalen did it to his face so that Skip could defend himself... Skip does it to players and then tells them to come on his show which is probably hundreds of miles away from where they play just so that they can defend themselves. Thats bullshit.
Dwight Stewart Do these men have such thin skinned to be insulted by things like "Bosh Spice". And by the way, he'll face up to anyone he challenges like Howard and Bosh, so you're wrong on that count as well.
Damian Clark I understand what you're saying but its easy when its only 2 or 3 of your friends giving you a hard time but can you imagine thousands of people on a regular basis doing that...people on the street always take it up a notch and test his manhood and shi. These guys just want to play ball, not deal with all the bullshit.
Dwight Stewart That's fair. But these people are well paid role models constantly in the public eye. I would let people call me names for 10 years to get just a fraction of what these men get. With privilege comes responsibility. Everyone has been mocked, demeaned, bullied at one time or another. You'd think that athletes can see through that.
Skippy, came from a rough neighborhood 😅😅 had to fight his way home I'll hilarious... Here it is in a nutshell Skippy can dish it out but he can't take it.
Jalen Rose is low key so clever. Watching this back I realized that every time Skip accuses Jalen of saying Skip doesn’t know what he’s talking about bc he didn’t play (which Jalen never said), Jalen always claps back with “I never said that. Plenty of women do a great job reporting on men’s pro sports”. This statement is basically intimating two things: 1. Skip is of the same importance to men’s pro sports as women reporters are. And 2. Skip has the same knowledge and influence as a reporter does, which is insulting Skip’s qualifications and credibility since Skip views himself as an analyst. You could tell every time Jalen clapped back with that statement, another little piece of Skip died inside. Jalen ripped this man’s heart out back to back nights on live TV. What a legend.
This was prime first take! Damn I would rather watch hours of debates like this than 5 minutes of the overused Lebron vs Jordan GOAT topic. And the moderator was hella good as well! Sooooo much better than Molly
these comments and name calling is shown all over the world to millions and millions ..that negative energy falls on the ears of many people who are impressionable..that's why we have so many people talking crap about the game they know nothing of..
