I've listed to a few of these songs and I gotta say, while I think the music is really nice and smooth, has anyone else noticed that James looks like that guy who hosts that morning show on RU-vid?
I've been watching these Guys since day one! Missed out on a few days but Hell.....been here the whole time! Much love guy's your awesome 😎 AND GOOD MYTHICAL MORNING 🌄❤️✴️👁️👊✨
I love the acoustic versions so much ❤️ your voice and guitar remind me of being a kid listening to dads bluegrass in the garage. Makes me feel like I'm back home and everybody is happy to see me for a change 🥹 I need that feeling this time of year, so thank you rhett
I bought the Human Overboard Vinyl, Mr. James! I've never related more to an album as I have to this one and I'm very excited to have a physical copy of it. I love singing along to it and really take in the lyrics. It's a great reminder that I'm not the only one going through deconstruction. Thank you so much for opening your heart up to us. Your vulnerability has made my life just a bit better and I cannot give enough thanks for that.
I adore this album. Initially I just listened to support Rhett, but I fell in love after the first listen of the album. It’s genuine and raw, and I have never related to anything more. I tried for a long time to believe in Christianity but felt like things didn’t make sense and I thought I was a bad person because of that. This album opened my eyes to so many things. I listen to it everyday. Would love to see Rhett perform these songs in concert, unfortunately missed mythicon.
I have never once heard a song about the lost feeling all of us fence dwelling spiritual ex Christian agnostic confused people feel. Theres a constant terror in your heart after a childhood of certainty of what comes next. Gnawing anxiety that you never get rid of that maybe you're wrong for stepping away from your faith. Punished by your questioning with a lifetime of more questioning. Thanks for making that feeling just a little less lonely.
I grew up in south Georgia in a very christian family. I went to church Wednesday evening, and twice on Sunday. Taught VBS, the whole nine yards. By the time I was 17 I realized I was doing it for everyone else and that I didn't believe in it. I'm 26 now and am completely obsessed with this album. You've put so many of my feelings into words perfectly.
That’s where you lean on Jesus instead of your own understanding… people fail, Jesus won’t. Trying to measure up and be the perfect Christian will get you no where. That’s Legalism - thinking if you do everything right THEN God will love you. If you go to the right church, carry the right Bible, listen to the right preaching, etc. THEN you’ll be acceptable to Him. When I’m reality while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. That’s not just me, that’s not just you… that’s EVERYONE who will call on His name through faith and genuine repentance. He loves you, as you are. Even in your mess, even in your mistakes.
This one is my favorite to sing. I've already done a cover of Kill a Man, which is my overall favorite, but I might do a cover of this one in the future. Keep up the great work, my friend. I'm forever proud of you.
I love this song and this album so much. Human Overboard has been on repeat for me and I can't wait for my vinyl to get here! Thank you for sharing these songs with us, Rhett. ❤❤
Wow. I feel the same way, what an incredibly hard topic to make into a song but damn, here it is. Incredible, beautiful, thank you for this. Congrats on your talents
Finding out that one of my biggest inspirations has the exact same struggles as I do was and continues to be the biggest comfort as I go through my own deconstruction. This whole album has helped put into words the thoughts that I didn’t realize anyone else had.
never related to a song more. Glad to have had this song to belt out and know that there are others with similar experiences. thank you for sharing this -sincerely another person that grew up in the bible belt :')
I appreciate this musical side of you, it’s you but it is different. Like a window into who you actually are as a living person. An expression into the window of the person you are when the cameras aren’t rolling. I like that. I always felt I was watching a genuine person through all these years and this really helps to define who that person is. ❤
Rhett I just wanna let you know that in the last year you've given me a newfound appreciation for country music. I always wanted to hate it but eventually I realized that the subject matter of the song mattered as much as the style and you write incredible stuff. Whether it's meant to be silly or not, it's always great.
As a person who was raised in a Christian home and who is still a Christian, I absolutely love that you're putting these songs out. I've been learning over the past few years that just because I have a set of beliefs doesn't mean that I should try to make people fit into them. If it's not real to you then you gotta do what you need to in order to figure life out. Everyone's on their own journey and the artists of us tend to share that journey in beautiful ways such as this. There's a psalm in the Bible that says something like "I will incline my ear to a proverb and with the lyre I will solve my riddle." Music is a wonderful way to solve the riddle of your heart. Blessings on your journey, man.
I feel this and have felt this way since I was little, my family is majorly Christian and I have a bunch of LDS friends but I’m not religious yet EVERYONE and their moms have tried to convince me that if I just believe everything will be better. But this is just life and we all die, I have never met a god or see a god in my daily life so it’s like Santa Clause to me. I’m at peace with it it’s just when others start to tell me I need faith I get upset because they’re just trying to control me and the way I think that life works… and we are all allowed to have our own opinions… right…?
Rhett, in total honesty, this is not usually the genre of music I enjoy- not at all actually 😂 But! Your lyrics are so meaningful and I find myself captivated by these songs. I personally had a lot of self-hatred that I collected over the years because of what I was taught was “right” and “wrong”. I eventually came to accept myself, and others- and my whole world view changed for the better. But it was hard, because, accepting myself defied everything I grew up knowing. Which is why I think freely exploring spirituality is so important to talk about. I think people are a bit scared to sing about topics like this, but it’s really meaningful. And I think your music will give a lot of people comfort in some challenging times.
I've been watching Rhett & Link for years but have been hesitant to check out James and the Shame because I generally dislike country music. This is different though. I grew up Baptist, very early on I knew something wasn't right. Took a while but I realized I just couldn't conform to what religion says is fact. This song...man idk. I'm like actually in tears right now. Rhett you have an amazing voice and great songwriting talent. Keep it up this is awesome!
As an atheist who grew up in a very atheist family, after a very hard time in life I turned to God and tried faith, and I have since gone back to atheism. But I completely understand why someone would have faith, and I am jealous of them.
With 3d genome mapping which is fairly new it was shown that humans are about 70% related to a chimp which is about the same that humans share with a mouse. With the new technology showing that we aren't as similar to chimps as we originally thought does that change anything in your mind Rhett? Evolution isn't as conclusive as you make it seem. The more our technology advances it shows how little we actually know.
I can see where you are coming from in this song and although I like some of it. The main mission that the Christian God and Jesus gives us as followers is to go out and spread the Gospel. This doesn't mean you go out there and pound it into people, in fact far from it. You do it with love for others. And if they don't want to hear we should shut up about it. But God calls us to do this.
@@deppfan167okay sorry. I can agree with that. Thank you for showing me love in your response. Perhaps the second mission is going out and spreading the gospel. You can't let you trying to spread the gospel go against loving people. That's why it needs to be done with love.
A song glorifying apostasy and praising the virtue of knowing nothing. Strange values. "Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour. They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us." "Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared" "And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature."
It's fine to be unsure of what God thinks when He wasn't explicit about something (i.e., eating meat offered to idols). But when He was explicit... you'd better believe that He meant what He said. And teaching anyone something contrary to something God was explicit about is putting a down payment on a new millstone necklace. Tread carefully, for your own sake and the sake of others.
I could give you examples of the overwhelming intellectual evidence (prophetic, historical, archaeological) that God exists, Jesus is his son, and the Bible is his word, but if you don't know him personally none of that will last. I could give you personal stories of what Jesus has done for me, my family, friends and even strangers, but if you don't know him it will only be distant anecdotes. Get to know your creator, and then make your decision! (Jeremiah Jeremiah 29:13, 33:3) If you have any questions, I'll do my best to answer them!
I have a question Rhett, what is love? You seem quite certain in this song that love is still a thing, bur what is it? Is your definition true? If so are you trying to push it on us? If we don't agree are we bad or unloving? In fact aren't you being rather judgmental toward all those bad Christians like you used to be?
