Quantum of Solace isn't the most beloved of the Bond films although I do think the villain's plot of controlling a nation's water supply has aged rather well as the number of conflicts over dwindling water resources has become all too common these days and are getting worse. I'm definitely looking forward to your reaction to Skyfall, one of my favorite Bond films. I also hope to one day see your reactions pre-Daniel Craig Bond films in particular "Goldfinger" (Sean Connery's Bond), "You Only Live Twice" (Connery), "The Spy Who Loved Me" (Roger Moore), and "GoldenEye" (Pierce Bronsan).

These Intros are an integral part of the Bond-Formula since the start. Infact, the first to have a proper Intro (and pre-credit-sequence) was the second one, "From Russia with love", from 1963.

Missed this one in theatres. Had no idea that it was one of several films affected by the writers' strike (2007, 2008). It moved pretty quickly and the editing was kinda on edge. The visuals still feel on point. Well shot for every scene. Storywise, you can still keep with it. Sticking to the course for the era that it's set in. Craig as Bond is on a journey that are several missions as one resolution. Looks good and moves fast. This is the sportscar of Bond films.

this is probably the roughest out of all the daniel craig bondmovies. There was a writers strike going on while this was written and it is very noticable at points. Rule of thumb with these movies is: The even numbers can be a little meh (2,4) and the odd numbers are absolute masterpieces (1,3,5):D

For me, it’s the later films I hate more because by this time, they should know what works. Martin Campbell as director and a good story. They read the tea leaves wrong after Casino. If you don’t have a good, compelling story with good direction, nothing else matters. Bond shouldn’t be reduced to a formula. Daniel Craig is fine. He’s not Dalton, but he’s fine. But it seems like if there’s nothing from Fleming to draw from, it all goes to hell. I watched Spectre and thought even James Earl Jones would have been a better Blofeld. I like Christoph Waltz as an actor, but he’s not menacing enough. And the Star Wars thing was ridiculous. Millions of dollars for writers and nobody can write a decent script without basically ripping off Fleming word for word.

What parts are very noticeable to you? Cuz I don’t think you know what you’re talking about 😂 people were all brainwashed to believe these are bad movies for whatever reason. Like you felt the need to say “this is the bad one” when everyone who sees it now always enjoys it.

Ironic you watch this one around the time there's a writer's strike. The last writer's strike was basically around the time I think QOS had entered production and they didn't have a full complete script. I remember early rumours saying the film would be about Vesper's Boyfriend going after the Organization for revenge and Bond caught in the middle trying to stop both of them but that was obviously not the plot. And this is actually considered the first proper hardcore Bond Sequel. Honestly, if you watch it back to back with Casino Royale, it serves as a good epilogue to that film. I like it. Its fast paced, has some good action sequences, some inspired by the four elements which is clever way of implementing them. And the soundtrack is at its best here I think. Its only real flaw is the hectic editing which they only had 5 weeks to do and the short duration of it. Wish this film had been slightly longer to give some characters more breathing room. Also this film pays alot of homage to older Bond films in various ways. You can't really appreciate this movie until you've seen some of the older entries from the past. Especially going forward with Spectre since that's a complete celebration and homage of old school Bond...but done in the worst way possible sadly.

Also I wish the gunbarrel had occcured during that fight with Mitchell in the glass building at the beginning. That show where Bond finally turns and shoots at him facing the camera. THAT should have led into the gunbarrel, simialr to Casino Royale's opening and started the song there. Weird choice they did having it occur after the car chase when that was the perfect set-up to it. Also favourite song openings are the next three films since they give you clues to the plot and themes. Plus the songs and lyrics in general are cool lol. But that's just me.

i always liked this one and Skyfall not sure why some people dont like it i have heard because of the writers strike but for me i loved the idea of controlling the water supply in this film also in Saharah toxic water and in no escape with Owen Wilson all about controlling water in 3rd world countries thats a very important resource we take for granted in America until it stops working and then you realize how important water and electricity are when they no longer work. so yes the idea of controlling water is old been around a long time but i prefer that simple slow power over a villain with a nuke.

@@robertosobreiro6212 I loved Skyfall when I watched it the first time and every rewatch has made me like it less and less. It just feels like such a cheap direction to go for Bond. It has all of the aesthetic of the Dark Knight but without any of the actual story to support it. Silva is personable and quite a character for sure but for what, ultimately? It’s too bad because it could have been good. Certainly better than “Spectre” (snooze) but that’s not saying much

This is what happens when there’s a writer’s strike and everyone reads the tea leaves wrong. The Living Daylights is the 80s Casino Royale. Everyone boiled down those films to just being “grittier.” That’s partly true, but if you’re not telling a good story, it doesn’t matter. Quantum and License to Kill suffer from similar afflictions. They both wanted to be revenge films, but that’s all they are. License to Kill caves halfway through and goes a little goofy, Quantum sees it through, but disrespects its characters and gives us an uncompelling villain. Some of that is writing, and some of it is the absence of Martin Campbell as director. Campbell is the only guy I trust to make a modern Bond film. He made Goldeneye watchable and Casino a classic. From Russia With Love is my favourite Bond film, followed by Living Daylights and Casino Royale. I like my spy thrillers. After this, they again read the tea leaves wrong and assume grittiness was the problem and they go into Roger Moore territory. As a writer and Ian Fleming fan, it’s so frustrating. Just write a good story. Stop reducing Bond to a formula. We know the character. Just give him something interesting to do. And bring back Martin Campbell. That’s mandatory.
@ozdeveraux2082
@ozdeveraux2082 Год назад
I cannot abide anyone talking bad about License to Kill. It’s a great movie that puts Bond through the motions but also explores something beyond the Cold War. Plus it has a finale That Just won’t quit. Always shocking to me that people don’t like it. It’s very different for bond, yes but I’m earnest it’s trying very hard to be a story when a lot of the films are trying hard to be set pieces

No one will agree with me but this is the last of the good Craig films. This movie suffers because of the writers strike at the time (and some production hell that I won’t go into) but it at least has a story that isn’t built on just hysterics and moments of action. People love Skyfall but it’s just a rip off of the Dark Knight and if you look even for a second beyond the surface of it it has no story. Bond has no purpose he’s just a guy with a gun and sadly that is what Craig continues to be for the rest of the films. Even though they aren’t horrible. Quantum gets a lot and flack for being disjointed and it certainly is but it is at least TRYING to do something with Bond as a person and gives us the only other Bond girl worth remembering in Craig’s career. It’s too bad how this all turned out, not awful but Casino Royale was such a promising start. As a big Bond fan I look fondly on the Craig years but in a way that is enjoyably silly. Hope you go back and watch some others, there was a time when this series was truly groundbreaking
