Bruh I'm turning 23 this year and my neighbor had a guy over that looked attractive to me. We met on a live steam from a band we both loved. She was saying in the chat how she was being bullied at school and just wanted to air it out. I responded saying that she was happy to do so in the chat as everyone was there for her. Throughout our entire friendship, it was mostly her airing out her grievances to me, dealing with bullying and unalive thoughts. She was 13 and I was 18. I never asked her inappropriate questions and we'd only ever talk about her because I didn't feel like she was of age to really have a say of the stuff I was going through. I very much kept my life out of our conversations and didn't really share much because I didn't want to trauma dump on her and make her feel like her issues were less than mine. Now she's 18 and I'm going to turn 23, and she has grown into such an amazing woman that it makes me tear up at the thought of it. I view her like my little sister, and she always comes to me when she has issues. Recently she told me about some sensual stuff she did and how she was having issues. She said that she felt she couldn't talk to her parents about it because of them possibly berating her and grounding her. I tried to be as helpful as possible by telling her that she should first be comfortable with her body first and I told her that if she ever felt uncomfortable with what I was saying that she could say something. Though she kept wanting to know about my issues, because she didn't want it to feel like a one-sided 'friendship', I always just gave her a little bit of information that wasn't too personal, like guy drama or whatever was going on in school. Now that she's older I've laid out to her as to why I was so private throughout our time of knowing each other and she understood. I never really tried to be a mentor, I just wanted her to know her feelings were valid because I had gone through similar situations with my parents, and to be that support was helpful to her. I had tried convincing her to go to therapy but her parents wouldn't let her. I wasn't trying to get rid of her, but just felt uncomfortable knowing our age difference and didn't want to accidentally cross any boundaries with her although I was always fully aware of what I was saying in our conversations. The most I ever did was tease her about liking certain guys she'd talk to, but simply having a CRUSH, not asking her sexual questions of any sense. It's been nice to see her grow and pass the obstacles that felt like boulders at the time. I think as long as you consciously make an effort to talk to kids, with boundaries, and simply helping them through their issues is okay until you take advantage of a person's innocence for your own personal amusement Sorry guys, just wanted to share my story

I think Adam is being influenced by the fact that he personally underwent a lot of changes over the past few years, which isn’t the case for everyone. Not everyone leaves home at 18 and undergoes the major life events Adam has. Go on a date, and you’ll probably be able to tell pretty quickly whether or not it’s weird. But things can be weird and there can still be a power imbalance with people of the same age. Adam’s making this an issue about age but it’s really an issue of power. A legal adult will always have a power imbalance over a minor, but a 22-year old won’t universally have a power imbalance over a 19-year-old. Anything else really shouldn’t be up for us to judge; if they’re two consenting adults who aren’t being manipulated by another person (i.e. a nonexistent power imbalance), it’s really none of our business. Whether we think it’s “weird” doesn’t change the fact the relationship is ethical. Edit to clarify: This isn’t a defense of James bc he was obviously in a position of power. This is mostly a criticism of Adam insinuating it’s inappropriate to date someone more than a year younger than you if you’re still in your early twenties.

im kinda sad bc I started following adam even joined the facebook group during the whole def noodles problems as I was a fan of def until he started inviting people on his channel that weren't very lgbtq positive and all of his drama reporting became less about what was really going on. now I feel like adam is supporting him it makes me question if I should try and find someone else to watch. Adam seems to really care about his community and I feel bad for everything with colleen but I personally have a hard time supporting anyone who is promoting def noodles as an okay person when his plat forms have shown very different things. "Character" or not I find some of the things def noodles has done cant be forgiven.

Sorry but as somebody in my 30's I can tell you that the mental difference between 18 and 23 is VERY minimal when compared to the difference between say 23 and 28. ESPECIALLY when the younger party is a female (because women emotionally mature much much faster) there's almost no difference between 18 and 23. I'm sure people in their early 20's absolutely hate hearing that but it's just the truth.
