Known for his skillful use of cinematography, innovative storytelling techniques, and mastery of pacing, James Wan has consistently delivered films that keep audiences on the edge of their seats. Today, we look back on three of our favorite movies and deconstruct what makes them work.
Written, Narrated, and Edited by Kier Gomes
Produced by John Fallon and Tyler Nichols
Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian
SERIES SYNOPSIS: DECONSTRUCTING is a monthly web series in which we choose one of your favorite horror movies and take it apart piece by piece (lovingly, of course) to see what makes it a classic. Each episode examines the origins, legacy and mysteries behind our beloved genre's most iconic titles... but we play fast and loose with the rules, so expect the unexpected!

James Wan still is one of the most talented horror directors in modern day. Also his second movie Death Sentence is such an underrated gem! Deserves more love, I know.

Totally freakin’ awesome! I would love to see King’s work in WAN’s hands! I vote for a Christine remake stat!

@@AfrodityJones no do a story that was done badly or hasn’t been done yet. You can’t beat John Carpenter. His version is fine the way it is.

James Wan does know how to make a excellent horror movie that scares to your core. James Wan is an excellent director as Stephen King is an excellent horror author.

I freaking LOVE everything about this movie... ambiance, music, special effects storyline. Watched it at the theater 3 times and pre-ordered the Blu-ray. Lost count of how many times I've watched it ❤

I'm a big fan of James Wan and think he's probably the most interesting horror directors of the last 20 yrs, but he needs a landmark movie like THE THING or ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK. The kind of film that's so iconic we'll be talking about in 40yrs.

SAW, DEAD SILENCE, MALIGNANT And INSIDIOUS Man James Was Has It All. He Should Be Added To List Of Horror Directors Like ROMERO, CRAVEN, RAIMI, HOOPER, CRONENBERG, LANDIS, GARRIS, DANTE, FULCI, ARGENTO, BAVA, COSCARELLI, MIIKE, SHIMIZU And The List Goes On.

Bruh James Wun knows what he is doing , Insidious franchise well at least the ones he directed , The Conjurings 1 and 2 cause he did not direct the 3rd one and Malignant were my favorite horror , and of course man did a hella awesome job with the 1st Aquaman movie , had no clue he directed Death Sentence all those years back

Great video. Insidious and The Conjuring 2 are probably my favorite horror films. Not crazy picks but it is what it is. I feel like Wan replaced Insidious with the Conjuring so he could have a more grounded series that include real world aspects like Ed and Lorraine and the Amityville horror. Just a theory though.

Excuse me, could you tell me where can I find the original interviews of James Wan in this video? I'm a university student doing FYP research about him, but I'm not familiar with searching all the interviews I'll be very appreciated if you could tell me the references, thanks

I still think James Wan would be perfect for a live-action Mega Man movie. Aquaman sold me on this idea, partly because of the colorful over-the-top fights, like that rooftop action sequence. I also have always wanted to see Dolph Lundgren play Sigma, and we could still have that, though it would take some cramming, re-written game-to-movie bullsh*tery to get to the "X" saga that fast, and fan service isn't as important as respecting the order of events in the source material.

I was one of the early adopters of Malignant and thought something was wrong with me given how bad the reviews and reception was, but the more I see it the more I like it. Gabriel is su cu an iconic villain with an iconic weapon.

Saw and aquaman are great and I think insidious has the best jumpscare of the last decade +. Malignant was okay, but the story only carries a longer tv episode for me, not a longform movie

Not only is this movie creepy as f%$k, it's also hilarious as hell. My wife and I were hysterical watching Gabriel take down an entire police station. We started calling our insanely shifty Border Collie "Gabriel" when he runs backwards with his toys to escape us.
