I was sailing as crew on a three masted bark down the North Sea in 2002 when a blue Falcon came and 'inspected' us under sail. I remember Chris Burwell as our under officer in the school CCF. Nobody else had a red lanyard, or looked as well turned out. As our ship arrived at Boston we had a Harrier fly past on their way to the ranges. We had an RAF bod on board making us behave 😁

Really great to see Falcon's on final and L-39's from Draken taxying past at Teesside after they've completed a sortie. They always wave at GA pilots as they're doing their pre-flight checks.

I wonder if in the training, officers would engage in some "motivational" speaking in the form of: "Lads, if you cannot defeat a business jet in the training today, how you expect to defeat a enemy bomber in a war tomorrow?".

😂 quite possibly! Although joking aside, these Falcon crews will have more tactics, hours and experience at attacking, jamming and spoofing than any front line squadron in the world would 😉 So those under training really are being tested at the top of the game, minus the threat of death.

Teeside Intergalactic Airport… I remember it well. When it changed its name to reflect the community which it served, a forward looking area, an outward looking region poised to play its part in international trade, a heavy hitter on the world stage, there could only be one name. A name that would guarantee success. That name was Durham Tees Valley International Airport. I did a PA inbound the day after and called it Darlington Municipal Aerodrome and unbeknown to me we have the chief tosser from the airport with his bint onboard. Not a happy couple. They were going to complain to my company. In writing! Never heard a thing - possibly because only one company did all of their international flights.
