Peerce was an elegant, well trained singer with a beautiful voice. I loved him. His voice lasted well into his seventies. without any wobbles .. He was wonderful..
I have not listend to peerce much, mostly because I am generally drawn to 2 or 3 who were the greatest, But peerce sings very well and has a good voice in additon. This is a fine performance,. thanks.
Jan Peerce certainly had nothing to prove when it came to classical singing, yet every time he sang, he proved that he was as fine a classical singer as any that went before and certainly most of those who were to follow. He stood the test of time, he sang a wide range of roles, and he covered classical, Jewish songs and prayers, as well as popular songs with equal panache. Whenever he sang, he did so with consummate professionalism, skill, and style, and he did so for a very long time.
I have been listening to Jan Peerce sing for over 60 years now,and I am amazed at the power in his beautiful voice. I have listened to many tenors,but his is the voice that knocks me out.Thank you for sharing this.
Bravo,direi molto bravo.Sopratutto perche' il fraseggio e' molto buono,dove ci sono le doppie vengono rispettate,dove non ci sono pure.Molti tenoretti odierni,dovrebbero ascoltare questo signore(che se cantava solo usando la fonetica,senza conoscere il significato di cio' che cantava) il senso e' stato reso pienamente.Forse costui aveva rispetto per l'arte.spro d'essermi spiegata.Grazie
@sugarbist Little known fact is that the in former soviet union for a long period of time the scientist 's were using technical devices to resolve the mistery of bel canto. The highiest resonant tenor voice is the one of Pertile and the test's showed that vocal cords are performing without tension during his singing,as for bass Pivovarov ,for him even more interesting they took out his laringe after his death and studied it.
@vladupeThat's very interesting,However,my guess would have been Lauri Volpi,if based on resonance only,SinceVolpi's resonance seemed to reach further than any other tenor voice in history.I would have guessed that it would have been a voice with a verbratto,because, for the most part, they run or( correno) futher than most other voices.Pertile was definitely a beautiful singer, but he did not have a beautiful quality of voice.It does take more than just resonance to declare the best tenor.Enjoy
@sugarbist: Among the many differences, personal and professional, which separated Peerce and Tucker was that Peerce thoroughly disliked Lauri-Volpi’s singing whereas Tucker, after hearing Lauri-Volpi sing when he was in his late-sixties, said to his wife Sara (Peerce’s sister), “What a voice! If he comes back to the Met, a lot of tenors are going to be out of work!”
Every1 favored his brother in law. But here, U can C that he's just better:) His brother in law over did it trying 2 sound like Caruso & more dramatic! Too much sobbing too!
