Octavia E Butler rekindled my reading streak since last summer. A cool indie bookstore opened in Pasadena in her name sake so I thought Id read Parable of the Sower. Ever since ive been burning through her bibliography and war his through all her old interviews on youtube. I adore her writing, imagination, and the way she speaks

Kindred is a remarkable story - so glad I read it a couple years ago. I'll definitely be reading more Octavia Butler. I hope you love A Song for Arbonne as I so!

I have a feeling, I hope, that you will love Wall of Storms as Grace of Kings felt like a set up book for what happens in the rest of the series. Kindred is the best book and the books I would recommend everyone read yet I, probably, will never re-read it: it's so harrowing. I have been meaning to read more Toni Morrison after reading The Bluest Eye a few years ago so, even though I'm already behind on my February TBR since I had rollovers from January, I'm going to try to squeeze in Sula this month.

I am enjoying Wall of Storm tremendously! OMG! This is definitely a contender already for one of my favorite series. Kindred is affecting me in a way a book rarely does. I’ll have to do a review when I’m finished. I’ve only read Beloved by Toni Morrison many, many years ago. She’s another great writer I’d like to read more of.

Thanks for the shoutout man, and it's been fun discussing Kindred with you as we've been journeying along Dana on this trip, which has been less than fun. I also want to see what happens by the end, I hope Dana will get out alright! I would say the Niners should win since they have the more complete team, but this season's already been fucky as it is. So I suppose we'll see what happens. Great video man!

Always happy to hear people trying out Tchaikovsky and will encourage them to tryout his fantasy writings (Children of the Fall in my case as I haven't gotten to his more popular one) as well. i started with Fledgling with butler. MAYBE not my best choice but the talent is clear. and I've enjoyed others. I've read a fair amount by black authors so far this month. I try to prioritize books from identities that aren't mine in general, but I'll take any 'excuse'/motivation given to me.

@@KindlesandKicks Look, I live in a part of the world that I think the majority resident is quite older and it's all very white. Part of the reason I read is to get variety of viewpoints and histories. It's one of the beautiful things about books and the industry push -the positive and the negative that comes with that in that there is still a reliance on a select type of stories that are more 'catchy' than others to them - that's been happening in the past decade or a little better. Personally, just as I dive into all genres for a change, why would I just want to recycle one view of life? I really don't understand why anyone whose voice is predominant wouldn't /WANT/ to expand their horizons.

I'm gonna try not to hold being a Cowboys fan against you........and Britton. It's gonna be tough tho. lol. I haven't read any GGK but he's been on the TBR for a while now. Awesome video man. Before I go.......GO BIRDS!!! lol.
