8:50 A clarification about that When in 2006 Italy won the Football World Cup (against France LOL), we used the melody of Seven Nation Army as a stadium chant to celebrate the victory. Since that moment, that musical motif, in Italy, in no longer associated with the original song (and most of us don't even know that), but is used when we win something or to cheer up our team. So that's why they were singing it after they won 😅😂.

@@alexandrumic I would just like to add that the reason is exactly what Davide told you but the fact remains that White strips can reasonably be part of Maneskin's musical tastes. 14:55 She said "thank you" in Ukrainian. Ukrainian song is a techno-folk genre. This song type/tradition is almost a century old, it's a ritualistic song about an ancient pagan forest deity called Shum. The song is meant to call Shum to bring the Sprig faster and say goodbye to Winter. And the instrument you hear is not a flute but a traditional Ukrainian (or rather old-Slavic) wind instrument - "sopilka". This is one of the most used instruments in Ukrainian traditional songs. She is also singing in a traditional throat singing style. It's a beautiful combination of Ukrainian traditions and modern sound :D P.S.: the meaning of the song is also about season changing. In this context, ending of the pandemic (the Winter) and beginning of new era aka new Spring.

Seven Nation Army by White Stripes is like a national anthem for Italians. The Dutch song has such an important meaning as well. He sings in Sranantongo which is a language from Suriname. The language originated as a way for Surinamese slaves to communicate with each other, because they weren't allowed to speak Dutch and was in later years forbidden when Suriname was still a Dutch colony. Today the language is still seen as inferior and discouraged to use even among Surinamese. So for him to use this in a song is a bit of a powerful statement. The Sranantongo line he sings is also very important. He sings ''u no man broko mi, mi na afu sensi'' which basically means ''You can't break me even if you think of me as inferior'' The song is a message of hope and was inspired by attending BLM protests where he saw not only black people but a lot of young people as well. So he believes soon with the younger folk there will be a birth of a new age with less racism. So its kinda sad when people make ''U need brocolli'' or similar jokes about it...

Hi Alex! About the White Stripes "quote" at the press conference: that chant has become a cultural thing in Italy since we won the football worldcup in 2006. Back then people in the area started chanting "poo po po po po pooo" for some reason... and sonehow it got stuck on us. Now, everytime there is a competition or situation that requires some sort of cheering and chanting, it comes out. So right now it has nothing to do with the White Stripes, it is purely a cultural thing. Very Italian! (But of course I can see Måneskin liking them, probably they do, idk)

I love how you guys react to this. Nao seems genuinely interested in the music and performances, and I'm really happy he likes so many of these songs. As for Japan joining: there's going to be an American song contest, so maybe Asiavision isn't such a bad idea either. It's all about uniting through music, even though it is a contest. This year, many friendships were formed among the performers, and even one couple (Tix and Efendi) So it really shows how people tend to connect through the experience. It's also a great way for small artists to get more well known. It all seems incredibly competitive, and of course everyone would like to win, but in the end, that's not the most important part of the contest.

Danish here, thank you for including us! I'm late to your video, but here in Denmark, it was a controversial decision to keep the song in Danish instead of translating. The band wanted to stay true to their roots, both the un-apologetic and non-ironic meant 80s vibe and the Danish language. Could we have gone higher by translating to English? Maybe, but they stayed true to their values and I respect that 😊 thanks for a great video!

Maybe important? : the Netherlands actually sent a Surinamese performer. (Which is technically still part of the Netherlands which is why it is allowed) There is no Dutch in the song.

Suriname isn't part of the Netherlands since 1976. The singer just has Surinamese background, as many people in the Netherlands do (just like you can find many people with roots from Pakistan in the UK, many people with roots from Senegal in France or many people with roots from Ecuador in Spain).

Many do not yet know that the German song was not chosen by the Germans, but by the television station that broadcasts the ESC on our site... And above all, the singer knew beforehand that he would not do that well (wtf) and he even said "That's a bit sneaky" ...

There was supposed to be a Eurovision Asia, but they ended up cancelling it because of language barriers and time zones and stuff. There is going to be an American one though, but between the states of the US rather than the countries of North- and South-America.
@hlb979
@hlb979 3 года назад
I'd be definitely in favor of Japan trying out to be in the EBU one, tho; if they like it or not etc; for sure it takes a lot of patience since it's very difficult to win and it's not automatic that your music that you might love so much is also understood by other - and sometimes it's frustrating; but - maybe because it exists a "parallel Sanremo" (with very different rules) in Japan too - called Kohaku Uta Gassen - I definitely see them fit somehow.
@FanFictionneer
@FanFictionneer 3 года назад
@@hlb979 As much as I love Japanese culture, I don't think it would be right to add them in. It's still Eurovision, and adding in too many other countries from other continents would ruin the point/identity of the contest a little and would also make it a lot more difficult to organise. Australia being a part of it is quirky enough already. I still hope it's possible to get an Asian-Oceanic version some day. Adding in countries from just about anywhere might also make it harder for people to take it seriously.

Just to clarify, Seven nation army became a football anthem in 2003, but not because of a victory on the italian side, but because Club Brugge won 0-1 against AC Milan in SanSiro, and was singing this song during the game. Afterwards it became a world wide anthem.
