So much nostalgia, in almost every game score shown, Lions were just absolutely dominating. What a player he was, the whole team. Looking at this real is such a reminder how the game has changed for the worse now with so many stoppages and so few accurate goal kickers.
Yet to see anyone in AFL match the sheer dynamism, power and skill of this guy. To be at the ground at those games he was in full flight was incredible. That whole Lions team were just amazing to behold at their peak.
@BluntAustralian ablett snr was the best 65 meter torps on his opposite left boot! Aka was almost as good with both feet but gazza was definitely the greatest in every aspect of the game! Just watch his highlights! A bit sad how this blokes career ended he was definitely one of the best players of last 30 years!!
@BluntAustralian no way gazza could kick 60m on left boot and played the wing most of his career! Kicked 9 of the wing at vfl park on day! Pure freak! Sit on your head aka didn't do that! Set shots aka not the best gazza lethal! Bust open packs and come out clean gazza again! Gazza was aka just 1 foot taller and 5 foot wider ten times stronger and a leap like a high jumper! Strong boy was gazza strong! Legs like tree trunks and shoulders like a brick shithouse! Gazza is the most talented player ever by a country mile and the greatest player ive seen! I have gazza 1 leigh matthews 2 ! The rest are arguable but them 2 are the greatest!
so many players run fast and do a couple bounces and then a shocking kick, but Aker was super accurate. Seeing him run at full speed and step like a rugby league player then kick a goal is a great sight.
How many players today can kick goals from 55 to 60 metres out on both feet on the run with multiple angles regularly like Aker has done in his career simply an outstanding player
Far away from Australia...this week I have seen my US alma mater's women's volleyball team lose a college playoff game against an equally talented team. I have seen England's men's national soccer team lose another World Cup quarterfinal via the impact of a missed penalty kick. What do they lack? Ruthlessness. And nobody had that more abundantly than Jason Akermanis.
14:17 "Akermanis. Left foot SNAP! AKERMANIS! HAS KICKED! A GOOOOOOAAAAALLLL!!!" - That has to be one of my all time favourite pieces of commentary. I still get chills seeing and hearing that.
I forgot how fast Aka was. Dude was an absolute beast from mid to the 50 for the goal. I also remember Nigel Lappin kicking some huge goals from sprinting mid
Such a character! Off the field he had the biggest mouth on him, throwing shade left and right in the cheekiest of ways, and then backing it up every weekend with a dominating performance. There are no characters in the game anymore. Not like Akers. Fuck I miss him, and I'm not even a Brisbane fan...
Pffft. If you like candy and highlights reels. Aker was a freak but Ablett jnr was a freak AND a consistent ball getter. And look at Ablett Snr if you want to see highlights and a freak, no one like him.
And yet so contrasting in their styles. Where Aker had blistering speed, Jarman made everything slow down. That’s why our game is great. You don’t have to be one type. There’s room for everyone.
My career highlights from my amateur football league days would be backing out of contests, fumbling my hand balls and calling to come off after every chase. Then I'd blow my shoulder out and retire at 22.
I'm an eagles fan, but I would take alert as an outside mid. His dual kicking ability from 55 and the angles he slotted from consistently are unmatched
