As a kid I feared this movie as an adult I LOVE this movie. The shark and filmmaking is definitely masterful but I love that this is a story of three strangers who couldn’t be more different from one other setting out to save their community. Just brilliant! Great review 👍
Great episode, Liam! I’m so impressed that the genius of John Williams and Bernard Herrmann is their use of just a few little notes becoming so iconic and so closely identified with Jaws and Psycho. Very cool episode, Liam!
Jaws. Definitely one of my top 10 movies of all time. This is one of those movies that proves, less is more. Love it that you mentioned Quints' Indianapolis story. Originally, Robert Shaw was supposed to say something very different, but there are two rumors about that. One is that Robert Shaw loved to drink and wasn't satisfied with his performance, so he asked to do it again. The other is that, he felt the original speech was too boring. Robert Shaw, who was also a writer re-wrote the speech he gave to Brody and Hooper on the Orca. He may have had some help, but whatever the story is, Quints' telling of the Indianapolis is amazing! It added a chilling atmosphere to it. The book is way more different than the movie. If you get a chance to check it out, you won't regret it. I know, reading books in 2023. Jaws is also one of those films that suffered from too many sequels. Jaws 2 wasn't bad, but then there was Jaws 3,.... in 3D. I remember going to the theatres wearing those glasses. Then of course Jaws 4, This Time it's Personal, that was the tag line. This shark was sooooo smart that it followed Mrs. Brody from Amity Island, all the way to the Bahamas! I guess it was personal. Michael Caine was hounded by critics asking him how could he star in something like this? His reply was, "It paid for my Condo". Love that answer!! There's not too many movies like Jaws and I hope Hollywood doesn't ruin it by making a re-make for MODERN AUDIENCES. Can you imagine? Brody being a gay man living with somebody and Hooper being a trans-sexual woman?? That's scary just thinking of it. Keep the great reviews coming. Love the channel!!!
I've also heard those rumours about his Indianapolis speech! Apparently in that scene, Richard Dreyfuss wasn't acting, he was in genuine awe of Robert Shaw! I also haven't seen any of the JAWS sequels besides JAWS 2. One day I will get around to it, but it's certainly not a priority of mine at all haha! I also believe Michael Caine said that it was to pay for his mother's house, at least that's what I read! Either way, it's a great way of dealing with it haha! JAWS is a film that should never be touched or remade for sure!
Loving your series, Bro. Keep up the great work. Jaws, BTW is my favorite movie of all time. I saw this at the drive-in, when it came out.I was seven or eight. We lived in the mid-west under the literal shadow of the Bell-Air Drive-in, and my parents took us to see everything, God bless them. Never mind getting into the ocean, I couldn't even swim in a lake after seeing this film!
Jaws 2 is decent. Well received and highly successful. A very big deal at the time (yes I saw it at the cinema as a kid). As a standalone film it would be better remembered, but it had an impossible task to measure up to Jaws. Scheider is great and there are some good moments in it. The less said about Jaws 3D and Jaws The Revenge however, the better. They are pretty awful.
