You can only close the beach from the mayor's office or the police station, love this game. There are some edge questions on the 2nd act with not having to shoot even when targeting the shark. also how gear cards are handed out.
Picked this up on June 25th and am looking forward to playing. Note that at two seperate Targets I found it NOT on the wall with all the other games but on a nearby endcap with a small selection of games. It wasn't near Catan, or Ticket to Ride so don't get discouraged if you do not see it on the main wall, just look around.
Thanks for the great review! This sounds right up my alley. Can't wait to play. I wonder if a house rule would help- maybe some way to support what happens in the first half leading into the second half. For example- maybe if the people are more successful in the 1st half, the shark has 16 health for the second half? (or something like that...)
But the rules already include details on how the first half of the game influences the second half - the more the shark eats, the more abilities it gets and the less gear the crew gets. That said, you can still lose the game in the second half despite having a better starting position. -WEM
Thanx for showing it in detail not just an overview review. Act 1 = Euro Game area control resource management event cards strategy puzzle outwit object collect VP track players always in the game ergo Work. but interesting shark mechanism. However two things to note they don't use the 'm' word for wooden pawns they actually call Movers and no designer name on box. Intermission get bonus cards based on accomplishment or lack thereof. Act 2 = Ameritrash Game action cards weapons dice destruction of boat tiles target attack reduce HP out of game watch game object elimination ergo Let the fun begin! Although it's interesting they use the term Eat (thankfully they did although I would have liked bloody water flip sides on the swimmer tokens) in Act 1 yet Eliminate in Act 2 instead of Kill! It's good it's easy to start and play only one Act if you want to. I think I can solo houserule Act 2 with the dice randomness and card actions. This looks like a well designed game not just fluff for the sake of theme and money. Looks worth the 'early bird' $30 Target exclusive. I might edit my thoughts after I buy it today but that's what comes to mind.
@@michalpinkney4049 I coined it I guess. I hate that sissy word which I will not utter the term wooden M**ple lest the beautiful worker placement area control map art burst into flames haha Is the quaint town Amity Act 1 located in European history and why does it not have a VP track around its perimeter? No seriously don't hate euro games I just think they're boring. I don't want to escape work to do work. I wan't to chuck dice to randomly destroy my opponents with powerful min-max powers reducing their crew's HP to below zero despite having an ongoing flare condition stuck to my perfect organism and hear the crew's lamentations of their women or their M**ples. Now abstract wooden gaming cubes I can handle. They also make good solo houserule turn markers. And no way is a Great White Shark called a M**ple. Blasphemy. well it's just a game that Target didn't put on the shelves on time when I had my cash back credit card in hand even though it's listed as In Stock at my local store and the D&D Essentials Kits was uncased on time right next to it. Maybe it's telling me I should stay away from the beach.
@@kennethfharkin "Meeple" That's what someone somewhere along the line in gaming history called little wooden people used in euro-style games. Sounds silly to some. Which maybe that's why the designers call the Movers in the game rules(?) That's the first time I've heard that term used.
I LOVE hidden movement games (Specter Ops is amazing), this looks great too. Only problem now is should I get this if I already own Specter Ops... I'm very curious how long this game is / feels and if it's easier to play (a more casual hidden movement).
Spectre Ops is great! This is different because it has two parts that play out differently. The first part is more traditional hidden movement, but the second part is more of a "guess where the shark is gonna attack." So, I think there's room for both on your game shelf! But I bet you could demo this at your local game store if you're curious to check it out first.
May the Force Be with You lol My Target didn't put it on the shelves so I have to wait. But I wonder which card has the saying he would not say that you said.
