I love that Rod's contributing more to the conversation these days and has some time in front of the camera. DEHH just gets better and better over the years, man, I'm here for it.

They was a group share on discord for the album that was $9000 and had a bunch of people donating money for the release. Hackers/whoever got a hold of the album was charging that amount for it. Once it reached close to 9000, they put up a link. I think the actual release came a week or so after.

I’m sure they’ll review Benny album too, but I really... REALLY hope DEHH reviews 21 Savage’s Savage Mode II. I know the reaction they have to that album would be entertaining. It might’ve changed Myke on 21.

Wanted to add to you guy's breakdown of the meaning of the album, I heard someone say that Jay Elec is tackling the thesis that "Life is hard, but living is beautiful", which you can hear him touch on in the intro before diving into the album. Loved the review, much love !!

jay z vetoed this album coming out in 2012 because it wasn't commercial enough.

Real Magic and Run and hide were my favorites on this. I really enjoyed it, just wish we had the completed version.

Y'all know for "Road To Perdition" the jay part "Let this bitch breathe" is a sample from Jay-Z "American Gangster" album, the song titled Success featuring Nas. So Jay-Z was never going to be on that track, Just Blaze just sampled his voice from that song.

Bonnie and Clyde is a very interesting track. I’ve listened to it because I heard people reference Serge Gainsbourg (the French male singer in the song) so I started listening to him. Part of Dinner at Tiffany’s was originally part of Shiny Suit Theory. Also Dinner at Tiffany’s is sung by Charlotte, Serge Gainsbourg’s daughter. A few artists have put out Bonnie and Clyde songs (Jay z, Beyoncé, Tupac...) and this is way different.

I was really expecting Myke to pick up on the Phantom of the Paradise 'Faust' piano sample and lyrical references in 'Night of the Roundtable' (the lyrics and melody are lifted from that song, as well as the piano part: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-97vV_cB8GkE.html), and the Bowie reference at the start of 'Run and Hide' (taken from 'Quicksand' off Hunky Dory). I'm less surprised he didn't get the Bowie ref I guess, but for some reason I really thought he'd be into the Phantom of the Paradise movie - an early Brian de Palma classic (and an all-time fave of mine). Or maybe this was mentioned in the video and I missed it somehow?!

When Jay first put out the track list for act 2 knight at the round table had (first skeleton) next to it because it obviously wasn’t finished lol. On written testimony he mumbled and followed it with “sometimes I was held down by the gravity bit my pen” showing sometimes it’s hard to write. THAT one was on purpose

Hackers were involved in the leak. Someone got it and people in a Discord chat pooled together the $9,000 to buy it and put it out. Jay and his people were initially trying to block it, but he made (since deleted) Tweets warming up to the positivite reception and cleared the samples to put on Tidal. Jay did not put this out himself, it's not just unfinished but not even the final version of Act II but I'm hella grateful we got this.

Dear Dehh I really wish u could discuss the new Sa-Roc project. I really feel that this is the best female rap album this year so far

From my understanding, Jay Elect, for whatever reason, just never felt it was the right time to release the project (prob for the same reasons Dre never released detox and why 3000 don't release music, they just don't feel it's right.) I wouldn't doubt it if samples were already cleared YEARS ago. I would also say that this project were hearing is probably an 80% done version. It was probably in some engineer's cloud or hard drive and someone either hacked into it or stole it. To further this belief, Just Blaze actually talked about hearing this album years ago; it was probably this version we're hearing as it was most likely floating around engineers and producers to determine where to take it and finish it. Blaze said the album was done but as a producer he knew that the album needed a few edits/tweaks here and there. I honestly don't think Roc Nation or anyone associated with them had leaked this. I would actually argue that other JayZ and Jay Elect album that came out earlier this year had MUCH more industry interference with it's creation as Jay Elect probably was under contract to release something or get let go.

It's part of the group buy leak culture where fans all pay a small piece of a leaker's requested sum to get leaked music. Also Just Blaze said there is a version of the album of the album that was more finished.
