@Big Will for real man.. I see this hate in a lot of old heads who cling toward Illmatic and dismiss everything else in this mans catalogue. Stillmatic, GodSon, Untitled, distant relatives, it was written were all phenomenal albums to me. People forgot, Nas made Illmatic 16yr old living in the projects, he can never make that album again

Fam esco has an AMAZING CATALOG. He's a goat because of his versatility and all his albums arent the same which is damn near impressive going on 30 years strong. LIG and IAM are great bodies of work as well. I also LOVE SD disc1 too. Dude is a legend for a reason and KD is only adding on to his legacy.

I've been confused about the criticism for this album and the comparisons to Jay Z that Nas has been receiving for this album...like y'all know that Nas been on this black empowerment/conscious tip since....well since Illmatic? The beat selection on this project is the most consistent it has been in a very long time for a Nas album. Yes, he's not as "hard" as he was in the past, but y'all, Nas is 46. If y'all want young and pissed off Nas then Streets Disciple, Hip-Hop Is Dead, and Untitled are there. King's Disease is Nas in his old head bag dropping gems and tryna reach a middle ground with a younger audience while still appealing to his fans. It works and Hit-Boy compliments him well.

Drip Jay the problem is that it’s not even better than his wack albums. There was not a single standout song on this album. Albums like Nastradamus or Hip-Hop is Dead have at least a few bright spots even though those aren’t great albums either. King’s Disease has none. I kept my expectations super low and the album was still a letdown. Let’s stop pretending that legendary artists are incapable of putting out something wack.

No other rapper could be in this pocket like him no one. But they rather talk about beats. When Nas raps I see a movie. But with Nas he’s judged differently than other rappers. They expect perfection so they talk about beats. They can’t talk about lyrics because he’s A1. But on this project everything was perfect. New school and old school. It bridged the gap

Hit boy did well to allow Nas to explore his King's Disease theme throughout the album with fresher sounds . You can't expect Nas to have dusty boombap from a man who is a successful venture capitalists with a grown daughter, worldlier perspectives . This album didn't lag at any moment . I think this is a solid project from Nas. I'll admit in the beginning the production threw me off because I thought it was a bit too clean and polished for Nas. But on the third spin I started vibing to it and it's nice to see Nas stepping out of his comfort zone and allowing himself to rhyme on different types of beats. The guest features didn't do much for me. I thought they were kinda lame, particularly Big Sean and Durk's auto tune just doesn't mix well with Nas's old school east coast style. But the good definitely outweighs the bad. We'll see how the replay value holds up.

People cling to Illmatic but not thinking he made that album while living in the projects. He can never make that another Illmatic album. While most think Illmatic is his best album I can honesty say: Stillmatic, Untitled, Distant Relatives, GodSon and It was written we’re just as good. We gotta appreciate his art in story telling instead of bashing any album that isn’t Illmatic. Btw, so far I’ve gave this album 10-15 listens and I gotta say this was a well rounded project. Something for everyone. 4.7 out 5. On a side note, Nasir was actually a dope album but most people hate Kanye so it makes sense they’ll bash that album as well. Go watch Nasir - The Film and the album will make more sense to you.

Great review. Been so looking forward to this fellas. To Rod and Kinge’s point about Nas seeming safe within Hit-Boy’s style of production in terms of the album having a consistent sound palette. While also Hit-Boy not stepping out of his comfort zone in terms of his style to fit around Nas’. That’s true but by that same token is it not possible that the styles they’re both known for can actually be complimenting one another by sticking to what they know? We’ve never heard Nas over these type of beats so technically isn’t he stepping out of his comfort zone?

I think Ken and Rod should listen to it a couple more times. The album is called "King's Disease"... Nas explained King's Disease as the physical adverse effects of living too much of "the good life". A lot of people still make this mistake when it comes to Nas. Nas isn't the type of rapper that needs overproduction, it doesn't particularly work with his flow. Can hitboi make better beats? For sure, but these beats work better for Nas. A more recent typical example will be Nas on Echo or Queensbridge politics. That's where his voice flourishes.

Man, this album is FIRE. I think this is the only review I've seen anywhere that criticized the production, like what? Also, Im stunned that more people don't mention "Till the War is Won". This is the ultimate tribute to our black women and our black people as a whole. That beat is so soulful and the singing is nice and I'm not really into stuff like that. Song can literally bring tears to your eyes if you listen to it and think of the struggles of our single mothers and our people over all. Beautiful song. And I'm usually not into songs like Replace Me or All Bad but at the same time, I can relate to both of these songs to the fullest so I love them.
