I love the way that Jay casually says "'we had Cadillac do the styling", "we worked with Alcoa on the wheels", "Microsoft did a great job on the dash". The man is a rock star.
@Peter Evans all of these companies are fine, I use Alcoa durabrite on all my trucks and my father's company contracted with Microsoft, and Cadillac made a very similar vehicle, I think they just got the chassis.
@Peter Evans The dash interface looks like a modern jetliner glass cockpit, which fits the theme of a jet car. Search for "boeing pfd" or "airbus pfd" and you'll see it's supposed to look like an 80's flight sim. I think they did a good job. See 13:32 for a goofy aviation-themed checklist. Air stairs, weight and CG (center of gravity), secure baggage...
Definitely not. A carbureted car goes up elevation to high or low trying to travel with a carbureted car and it starts doing all kinds of weird shit when you go up and down elevation. No thanks. If it was more reliable we would still be using it.
Imagine starting a car, but you gotta do the startup procedure of a jet aircraft, and then fool your entire neighborhood into thinking a jet aircraft is actually taxiing by
@@LTLoudpack7100 just about getting the jet started then it is like kid's game compare to rotary engines. But the procedures regarding the engine safety do be lengthy
Compared to the turbine cars, the f1 has much more reserved styling. Not to say it’s a boring car, it looks great, but it’s not as out there in comparison
Diesel Power ... Not at all... he lets them lapse, then, for the purposes of the show, he installs "traders plates" on them to show them out on the street...
I bet to jay leno a $200 dollar ticket everyday($73k for 1 year) for no registration is like the change we find under the couch to him. He's the kind of guy who will be worth triple when he's dead because of all his investments.
Jay leno went from working at mcdonalds, doing stand up gigs, to hosting the tonight show, making 380 million, still continuing stand up, making a living on stand up not even spending his tv money. Of course hes gonna flex. This mans work ethic and whit, along with people skills, money management and love for cars has given him a wonderful life.
Death trooper they aren’t wrong and there’s literally no need for your language. Lol Bugatti struggles to find tires able to handle their speeds. Even Jays turbine car blew out a window on the runway speed test. It isn’t that easy at all.
I am not entirely confident that the car body is designed for downforce. Some edutcational youtube videos about "not enuff downforce": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nkcGPf-fLV0.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-e21ZjwZGjiQ.html
Dude, that car he designed with the helicopter turbine in it is super dope. I would've thought it was some type of Cadillac/Bugatti love child until I heard Jay say he designed it. Jay is so damn ambitious.
When I was a kid in Hialeah Florida, I heard one of these travel down my street, it was late at night and I wasn't allowed outside to see it but being an aircraft nut at the time, there was no mistaking the sound of a jet engine powered car going down the street. We did have a super rich family in the neighborhood so I figured it was theirs, but I never heard it again.
Here’s hoping that the garage becomes a museum open to the public when Jay hangs up his hat. It would be an great legacy for automotive engineering history.
when I was a schoolboy back in 1960 or thereabouts we went on a school trip to Boxhill not far from London. As we got off the school coach in the carpark there was a Chrysler Turbine on display. We all crowded around and they asked me to put my drink on the engine whilst it was running to demonstrate that it made no ripples because it ran so smoothly. I can remember it as though it was yesterday. Fantastic.
Yeah, I saw a demo of it while in college. They balanced a quarter on the hood (bonnet) and it stayed put. I still have the little brochure they gave out.
I gave up a chance to ride in one. Mind, I was seven or eight at the time, when the Chrysler dealer from our former congregation drove up in total silence, and offered my Dad a ride -- apparently they were lent to dealers on a lottery system for the weekends, then back to the factory to see how they were wearing. Dad took a ride in it, but I begged off (hey, seven and a guy I barely knew by sight, not going to happen). Unfortunately, Dad now has Alzheimer's and does not remember the incident at all, let alone how the drive was.
I grew up in the metro Detroit area in the 60’s. As a kid, I routinely saw the Chrysler turbine driving around the area. I distinctly remember the ‘whine’ associated with the turbine engine. I also remember the burnt orange color, just like on the video.
I could watch Jay’s garage all the time it’s good wholesome television and I enjoy watching the shows over and over-as long as it is a great car then again I have to say there all pretty damn special 🇺🇸
That was great! Gotta love how non-nonchalant Jay was about everything towards the end. Yeah, it's a little loud. Yeah, Yeah, it's kinda funny. Yeah, it's a lot of fun.
Btw Jay is one of my top favorite celebrities because he has a kind heart and never has been in the tabloids for any scandals.... after a career that long you have to respect those credentials. Bless you Mr Leno and thank you and your team for posting these videos and working on the vehicles I know it took a lot of work
@@garlandremingtoniii4679 Right, and viewing the behavior of younger generations today makes it perfectly understandable, to me, why lions often Eat their Young, regardless of there being other prey available to them!! ;D LOL
Jay "to compare the 2 turbines just to show you how quite this is" Dennis "WHAT YOU SAY ?!" Jay " I SAID I'M SHOWING YOU HOW QUIET THE TRUBINE ENGINE IS !!" Denis "WHAT !!" Jay" HOW QUIET ...........!" Dennis " WHAT !!!"
@anewhope tosee not a fan of Tesla personally, but that wouldn't even be close. Just not how turbines work. They have to wind up. A battery run electric motor will basically have full torque immediately. The turbine 'could' have a higher top end if made for it, but this concept car wasn't even adequately designed for that speed. Apparently Jay tried it and lost a window due to air pressure @ 130mph, topped the car out @ around 165. Its a one-off custom - not a tested supercar.
I just heard CNBC canceled Jay’s show after his accident and subsequent serious burns. I didn’t realize it’s been on like 25yrs or more. I will really miss it and hope he continues his YT channel because I find it wonderful to watch
And on next week's show, Jay builds a car with a Space Shuttle motor....., and the week after, he shows us his own design Family Sedan running a replica of the Titanic's Steam motor...... Gotta love this guy, there's nobody quite as mad (in a good way) or quite as cool as Mr Leno. In fact, he's just knocked Steve McQueen into 2nd place. Look out for the episode where he chases a Hellcat through the streets of San Francisco on a Tripple Supercharged Veyron engined Harley-Davidson with 6 Turbos.....
These two Cars shown here 👉"the Chrysler Turbine Car" & "the Jet Car are really the two are one of the best most amazing cars in the world😱💜 and we absolutely love the most 💗....these two beautiful amazing Cars💖 are Super Epic and they are one of a kind in their class....one of the best cars truely that shown here....Thanks Sir Dennis Gage for showing us more of Jay Leno's Superjewel Collection of one of the Coolest and Best Cars💖 in the entire world😍😘💜💙
Imagine leaving your house to go to mc Donald’s and hear the screeching noise of hundreds of turbine cars and above the radio all you hear is a high pitched reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Imagine being in East L.A. and going to the McDonald's and all you hear are dozens of low riders' Hip Hop "music" coming out of their Cheby's sound systems!! I'll take the turbine sounds, thanks very much!!
It seems unbearably ironic how shy Jay is and yet how successful he became while overcoming it. I applaud this man. He's got the experience of years all over his body language.
I loved Jaguar's idea for a turbine hybrid car. You sacrifice weight but you get the best of both worlds. You get the immediate torque from the electric drive but a lightweight, powerful micro turbine to give you the range of a regular hybrid. Sadly, the turbine didn't make it past the prototype phase, the production cars used a regular old 4 banger.
There’s this guy with like 100 cars, and then there’s me concerned with paying the insurance and registration on one vehicle... and saving 5-10 years for his second(literally, I ran the numbers.)... never has the “there are two kinds of people” line been more relatable.
Hey Janice do me a favor I know you guys are friends but let him know I hope he's still good after his injuries but that is one of the most beautiful cars and the turban factor is over-the-top! I have always loved that car. Thank you for the video
@@AdamsBrew78 Yes, it is "the future". I believe we'll have coal- and natural gas-fired power plants for a long time into the future. To provide "the National grid" to run lot's of things, including "electric, zero emission" cars!! :D LOL!!
Turbine is pronounced like many similar words: sanguine, genuine, engine. Jay says it correct. You break your own 'rule' every time you say engine rather than "enjyne" don't you?
My dad actually knew a guy back in the day who drove one of these cars for a year as part of a testing program..."owner" wasn't allowed to touch anything because it was an engineering test. What an experience that must have been!
