@@alanrossreviews Yes still the XB 30 because it is a good speaker. For better music I use my BOSE 401's. My Yamaha AX-450 doesn't work anymore so I use a Sony MHC-EX5 now.

Thank you for providing THIS specific video! I enjoyed you running through DIFFERENT music genres to conduct your firmware comparison. Listening to the firmware versions, the high-end and mid to high-end frequencies sound more crisp. The Bass frequencies don't sound so "Muddy", like all BEATS Audio products. I'd give up a decibel for CLEANER & more accurate sounds, at the higher volume scale end. Thank you for providing such a scientific approach to your audio testing!

Thanks for the video! There's one a major difference that I noticed. The issue that this addressed for me had to do with very low volume play. With firmware 2.7, at quiet volumes I heard an awful gating effect which was cutting off low volumes and ambience in the music. To make matters worse, you could still hear some digital static shine through. It was unlistenable. As I like to play soft music while I sleep, this was a major blocker. I skeptically upgraded the firmware to version 3.0.0... And to my surprise it fixed the issue! Not a minor bug. A major bug. Try play testing some dynamic, soft music at very low volumes and see if you notice the same issue! I'm curious to find out if this was just me.

I got a red GG one for my birthday, 3 days ago. I love it and I just noticed something about what you said. It's on the 2.7fw and it has a really bad static noise at low volumes and makes things unlistenable. Should I update it to 3.0? I would like to get that problem out of the way because I use this speaker at very low volumes at night and high volumes when it's day. I love bassy songs and I would love to keep it like that too, the loudness included. So should I update it? I'm listening to the video on low volume while writing this and even on this video it has the same problem.

i was about to take my charge 4 3.0 firmware back (i have the 2.3 also) because it was lacking in loudness but i did a hard reset (the Bluetooth button and volume down i think) and it is noticeably louder, after a few weeks the sound has improved some, i still prefer my 2,.3 but maybe over time that will change (the 3.0 speakers being broke in)

Im glad to know im not the only one who cant update to 3.0. I guess its not better but mine has a bug that stops all audio when im using it to watch movies but music is okay. should of just stuck with my charge 3 smh..

Updated my charge 4 few days ago to 3.0 and for some reason I feel like they turned down the bass and focused a bit more on vocals because they do sound little bit better than before the update to 3.0. I don't know..If I could go back to 2.7, would do it in a heartbeat because I like boomier bass on 2.7.

Alan Ross Reviews a decibel isn’t really a big deal, especially since you can turn down a single speaker when listening to multiple at a time. I thought that was pretty neat when I stumbled upon that cool little trick.

@@alanrossreviews yes...the (1.2.0 firmware) it was only loud as my charge 3...that's y i kept it on hold (delayed purchasing it) now that its much of an improvement and at a cheaper rate got it right away

I just got my firmware update yesterday actually for my charge 4... Its strange im not sure about it yet... I also got a few flip 5s flip4s charge 3s and two xtreme 2s.. But this is my first TL charge 4.. And honestly it didnt sound as good as i figured and believed.. It didnt sound better then the flip 5..... Which is strange as hell... It seemed like the flip 5 was out performing it. And i got both TL and GG flip 5s and both sound really good.. But my new charge 4 wasnt hitting as hard as they did.. But now after iv let it burn in and ran bass testing tracks and upgraded it to 3.0 it sounds a lil deeper and stronger to me.. But mine is the red charge 4 TL version.. But still its not much better then the flip 5.. Now the xtreme 2 now thats a beast of speaker it hits hard both do and when paired omg lol

They play quite well together. Personally i moved on to the xb30 from both of them. C3 is more airy and mids, c4 more bass and more accurate, its your call.

I think the bass on normal mode was decreased, but I run mine in low frequency mode all the time and I think it has more bass after the update

hope you dont blow the speaker though, that low frequency mode just removes the distortion limiter.

Hi Alan, bought a Charge 4 in the sales yesterday for €129, (£115). Filmware is 2.0 & theres no option in the app to update it. (No red dot). I live in Ireland & my phone is a Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus. App & phone are fully updated.

i dont know whats going on, jbl have been hit and miss with updates. im still waiting for 2.4 on my xtreme when most people already have it. sometimes uninstalling and reinstalling the app helps.

I notice that I don’t have to raise the volume as much and sounds more clearer and crips oh the battery last 20 minutes longer. That’s my experience of using everyday and notice it after the update.

This is my first jbl and the bass is good for the size, but the 2.7 firmware pissed me off at full volume, sounded muddy, the 3.0 sounds clear as heck, bass is more of a lower frequency but the highs are the same.

No entanto, percebi que a caixa perdeu um pouco da potência de graves que tinha na antiga versão. Gostaria de saber se essa hipótese se confirma e, caso positivo como fazer para solucionar o problema. Desde já agradeço a resposta

Hi, I just watched your video. My JBL charge 4 has some issue; the music sometimes disconnects/ pauses in milliseconds, then back to normal, then again. I thought first it was my phone bluetooth or sometime but not becauae i used my Jbl Go and Flip has no issue

in my opinion in the next software update because in version 3.0 the speaker and power bank sound a little quiet a lot about the battery is illusive and there is only one dash to pair faster with bluetchoot and have better bass and to make it sound louder at maximum

3.0 is louder, still the same bass but Instead of the bass going higher with the higher volume, the bass just stops going up but the vocals go up.

HELP! I have a JBL Flip 4 that is continuously turning on and off. I've tried doing a factory reset; no difference. Also tried various button combinations with no luck. It is off warranty so JBL will only offer a discount for a new one.

Just got my charge 4 red TL version. Update is available but im afraid on updating it... Maybe i should enjoy 2.7 for years before i update it 😂 Edit: Im super curious so i still updated mine. Now i regretted it 🤦‍♂️ well it sound better at high volume. But i lacks bass at lower volume which is my likings, and the "wide sound" disappear... Dammit...

Interesting I was wondering why my camo charge 4 GG wasn't updating it's stuck on firmware 2.0.0 and its a 2018 Best Selling edition and won't update I've tried everything resetting it I tried different devices even took it back and got the exact same one and is still doing the same thing so I'm assuming it's a good thing.

There is no difference. the bass is still the same. They just fixed some bugs as they stated in the update. Nothing to worry about!

I've found that Charge 4 has a little bit audio delay when i play via iOS RU-vid. Also more delay when using Stereo mode. Anyone has the solution to this problem?

a little late but mine is 2.3 too, love it, it is louder than my 3.0 but i did a hard reset on the 3.0 and it is louder now

I just got the Charge 4 at firmware 2.0 and there’s no update showing. The treble cracks at high volume and bass is totally missing

Alan Ross Reviews Lol no. I got the charge 4. The bass just doesn’t sound as deep as it does in videos I watched. And it gets easily overshadowed by the treble

Ali_ 43 same here. Just purchased a unit with firmware 2.0.0 and no update showing here either. Tried deleting and reloading jbl connect app to no avail. Maybe they are working on another update. I’m gonna email jbl a inquire about it. My unit sounds really nice without the update though.

i have both versions, 2.3 and 3 and the 2.7 speaker is a lot louder and the bass is better as well as the whole signature, i wish i could downgrade the 3 into the 2,3 i do not know anything about the 2.7

Hey friend, where did you get the firmware for the jbl charge 4? I tried useing the jbl connect app with no luck. I called customer service and they couldn't help me either saying I should keep checking the app jbl connect. Could you show how you updated it and if you have a video on it by any chance.

There is no difference. the bass is still the same. They just fixed some bugs as they stated in the update. Nothing to worry about!

I have problem with my Charge 4. It's seems like it has connection problem or something. During playback, every 2-4 seconds it makes crackling noises and stops playback for few milliseconds. Sometimes it plays normally for like 20-30 minutes, sometimes it makes that shit all the time. What can be yhe problem? I tried to "play" with phone bluetooth settings and did speaker factory reset twice and that didn't help. P.S. Playing music trough AUX, there is no such a problem.

@@mikehancock6280 Even better, semms like I should never ever buy JBL. By the time their products have more and more problems and quality starts to suck. Never had any problems with BOSE but JBL... that's a different story.

SpeedManiac in a sense you are correct. I purchased a jbl link10 and have returned it under warranty 5 times. Everyone of the replacements had issues. Now I’m waiting for a charge4 as a replacement as they are out of link10’s. I also have a link20 that works flawlessly so beware.

Alan Ross Reviews well I received my charge4 yesterday and it is a gg model with firmware 2.7 and the app has a update to 3.0 and the TL model has firmware 2.0 with no firmware update available. When paired the sound is unstable and scratchy. I contacted JBL but have yet to get a response.SMH.

I am unable to complete the update. When I press upgrade button bluetooth is disconnected. when I restart, same result. I am using Galaxy S9 with JBL app. I also have 2 speakers, but update one at a time. Any assist would be appreciated.

as far as i know jbl have server issues, this thing about just being related to a certain version of android has not been shown to be true as far as i know. i myself have tried other version and none of them have the updates.
