If you listen to the audio of the welfare call the dispatch asked both Lauren and Janet why they felt they needed a welfare check and you could tell they were surprised they were even being asked for a reason. The amount of spinning they did was insane. Janet needs to lose her state license. She’s completely unethical.

They both stated that they thought KC "might be a danger to herself, or others." That's a very problematic statement to make, since dangerous people require a very different police response. This was an attempted swatting designed to scare KC and get revenge. I hope this leads to criminal charges for both Janet and Lauren.

I called in a wellness check on my mother. She had a history of mental illness, was a narcotics and alcohol addict, and had missed a doctor's appointment. The doctor's office called me and told me she didn't show up. It turns out, my mother had overdosed and attempted to unalive herself. She didn't make it. There are times when wellness checks are important, but certainly not in "Janet's" case.

Depending on where you live, you might be able to get MH services to give them a call as opposed to sending someone around as well. Obviously that won't be enough in some cases and isn't to be used instead of emergency services if they're needed, but it's a way of checking on them without escalating as much if you don't actually need to or it could make things worse.

Once, years ago when I wasn't well medicated, I'd been talking to a friend online and then posted just the word "goodbye". That was an experience, being woken up by my Ma because there were police at the door talking to my Dad. Former Chicago paralegal here. Never heard of Lockyer Law, not once. My family includes 2 other paralegals and 3 attorneys going back to the late 70's. We've worked in employment discrimination, worker's comp, commercial real estate, federal EPA disputes, insurance fraud, and land disputes with Metra. No one has heard of this firm or any attorney named Lockyer. Not a good start. Also, this statement sounds like a second-years first draft I would review before presenting to the attorney prior to filing. This would have been heavily edited, especially the name thing. I had a judge downstate who would refuse motions outright if they didn't include a wet signature in blue ink. Referring to yourself in a legal matter as Attorney... instead of Mr./Ms.; even if you are a legal representative, is weird and a little gross. Guessing no one reviewed this doc. Strike two. Additionally, the fact this statement doesn't include a brick and mortar address seems... very sus. Just a phone number and email? Maybe the firm is a solo and just starting out. That would explain a lot here. But still, not good.

Someone said he passed the bar or graduated in 2018, a year before Janet, so likely another sol, and obviously fairly newly qualified. I wonder if he had the same professors who seem to have taught Janet copyright law wrong? Janet has all kinds of signs of narcissism, given the way she seems to have insisted on beingnreferred to as Attorney Braun in this and the way she went off in the cease and desist about "don't call me jeanette, we aren't friends, it is Attorney Braun or ..." (I can't remember what the alternative was but it was equally as douchey". I think one of my concerns (other than her not having a clue what Fair Use is or how it works or, apparently, what defamation is) in all this is that not only she doesn't seem to have been aware that negative consequences would come from frivolously and repeatedly striking hudreds of creators in order to silence them... but at no point has she warned her clients. Anyone who works in internet law should be aware of things like pissing off a fan base and the Streisand Effect, and they should always give their client a warning about such things. She has actively harmed her clients' businesses, she is the one that caused most of the damage to Lauren's business. All she has cared about is billable hours by the sohnd of it.

When considering welfare checks, you also have to bear in mind the impacts of it on the person. They get humiliated by having the neighbours see the police show uo at the door. This can, and does, cause social ostracism in nice neighborhoods. Often, you also get carted off for "assessment", which is traumatic. If you're having a shower, or doing something else embarrassing, you get the humiliation of that too. Waking up in your bed (where you were peacefully sleeping) to see police officers standing over you, is a whole trauma in itself. And, someone who has already got anxiety/depression issues isn't going to "feel the welfare" of a situation where they now have to live in fear of having State authorities barge into their home at any time of day or night. It is a horrific violation of privacy. For all those reasons and more, welfare checks can actually push people over the edge .

This whole thing boggles the mind. Janet needs a few refresher courses in basic law right now. She seems to be playing fast and loose with her license right now. I believe that CaffeinatedKitti could file a complaint with whatever state Janet is barred in for misconduct, false reporting and for generally being a gigantic douche bag. I hope all defendants are able to get this abomination of a suit thrown out via SLAPP motion (or is it AntiSLAPP?) because this is completely ridiculous. This is going to be must see YT viewing. Grabbing my popcorn and hot chocolate so that I can watch the slow motion train wreck unfold.

I suspect CK has already submitted a complaint, and I doubt she is the only one. I think anyone (in the US) who she has sent cease and desist letters to (especially those with threats/blackmail) or where she tried to take down their vids on her or her clients, has probably submitted complaints too. I seem to recall The Girlies asking their fans not to submit them because it could lead to the genuine complaints from people harmed by them getting overlooked or everytnjng discarded as a harrassment campaign instead. I hope the The Girlies are also considering counter suing too. They should bring Jamie in on it too.

Unfortunately, while at least some of the defendants live in a state with an anti-SLAPP law, Janet has filed in federal court - this is why she's asserting that the damages are "at least $75,000" because that level of damage is one of the requirements for a federal court to have jurisdiction. In particular, she's filed in federal court in a circuit that has taken a dim view of whether anti-SLAPP laws may apply, since there is apparently some conflict between the early dismissal of suits allowed anti-SLAPP motions and the Rules of Federal Procedure, which set different timings and different standards of evidence/burden of proof. So it's fairly likely that such a motion would be denied.

Wellness checks have ended in deaths. They have ended in unjust psychiatric holds and sometimes unjust full psychiatric admissions. Depending on where someone lives, significant collateral consequences can come along with an involuntary psychiatric admission. If anyone thinks that people don't get committed unless they should be, I would suggest that such a person is naive. It's a lucky thing for all involved that C.K. didn't have any such issues arise from that wellness check. Further, the privacy claims are a bit hypocritical, considering Jeanette Braun's unclean hands. She sent copies of legal documents to CK's mother. CK is an adult.
