Ordered a set, but didn't have luck getting my old terminals off. Had to just end up cutting them. The bolt on the original positive side was completely acid through and was only being held on my threads. The sleeve was the hardest to get off, but it was simple. Thanks for the walk-thru on this. My '98 TJ is purring along perfectly now.
Battery connection problems tend to show up all of the sudden when the weather is bad (cold). That never makes for good times. The 30 dollars for that kit and the time to install it right is time and money very well spent. Great find on those terminals.
After watching this video a long time ago, i was having issues with my 04 tj battery terminals so i bought these. My neighbor whos in the army told me they are exactly like the terminals they use on all there military vehicles so i thought that was cool. These are great terminals for the money and i havent had any issues since. I soldered my ends as well. Its always better to solder when you can. Thanks for the great video
Ordered the Military Spec Battery kit and installed just like you showed in the video. It solved my intermittent power issues. Solid product, and cheap fix for common power issues. I don't believe I'll need to give battery connection issues another thought for a long time. Thanks!
Looks very nice. I was having some issues with the power cutting off and the jeep not starting. My battery terminals were pretty bad looking and I could wiggle them off by hand. I wire brushed the crap out of them and put new bolts through them and it works flawlessly. Might not be the best way to fix it but its cold out!
man the battery terminals on my 05 jeep are chintzier than that! I'll have to get some of these. thought about making heavier duty cables also. thanks for the video
Great video, this is exactly what I was looking for! I have a Jeep and I've been using the marine style terminals from Autozone, and they were OK, but the accessory lugs are right on top of the battery post. Then you try and "sandwich" the whole mess down and its a shitshow. I am going to do this mod pronto my friend!
The Military spec for terminal post clamps are a band of steel cast into the lug. Imagine the cheap sheet metal lugs on most cars cast into the form factor shown and you get the idea.... it keeps the clamp from crushing with excessive torque applied to the clamp bolt from deforming the clamp and the ends coming together from stretching the metal thus losing clamping force. Since its hard to tell if its there, alot of clamps that are shaped like milspec clamps are called milspec, and might not be. Unless you have problems with stretching the clamps previously, having the band there or not isn't going to matter, so don't sweat it, and buy the item that gives you fuzzies.
Did all you do is just heat it up and then pull the terminals off the wires? I got these terminals for my Jeep. Im like you, I dont want to lose any length on my wires, so Id rather do what you did instead of cutting them.
@@DrSayre I just remade the entire harness on the battery. Even upgraded the charging cable from the alternator to the fuse box and the fuse box to the battery.
Those look really nice. Might have to put those on my 95 YJ Project I am working on. Also, how are the puppies doing? You will have to give us an update when they open their eyes.
Milspec just means that it meets the specifications that the military set in a request for proposal. Often the lowest bidder wins the contract, but any company that meets specifications can call their product milspec, whether they submitted a bid or not.

When you were taking the old terminals off you said you cut them off. Did you just heat them up so the solder melted and you could pull them out or how did you do that part? Great video by the way
I've been wanting to do this, but I bought just the terminals a while ago from amazon. they came in the same packaging. what size guage is the factory wire for me to pick up the lugs?
+Illjustfall Hmm looks like 4 and 8 maybe - the kit came with all the same sized lugs so that's why I like the solder method because it fills the lug no matter the size wire.
