I just replaced myself mine too. 2017 that original style suuucks. Tight as it will go and could move them around by hand way to easy. New battery too. The kind I wanted was out of stock but the type you put in is close to what I went with. Had to use part of the old system, the bar part where 3 wires are connected and filed down the clamp part a bit to be able to accept it. It's all tight and good now. Had to work with what I could find around town but got it to work. Maybe when they get the part I want I'll swap it out but the kids happy I don't need to borrow her Lincoln mkz.
Good video. I've been experiencing some power/battery issues on my 2013 JKU and just spotted that the lower lug on +ve clamp has badly corroded. You've probably saved me a frustrating trip to the dealership etc.
Ontario, Canada.. 2016 Jeep Wtangler Willys. for now a few months my brand new battery was coming dead couldn't figure out why until I touched the battery cables.. As you, tried to tight it more with no positive results was still loose. I guess it's time for an upgrade.. Thx for sharing
Nice video. You should have a nice red, plastic cover for the positive terminal, just to help prevent an inadvertent short, should a tool contact the terminal and the chassis at the same time.
Thank you for making this video . The dealer wants me to purchase a $3k engine wire harness simply to replace a negative battery terminal in my 2014 Jeep wrangler jk I don’t have to replace my positive side terminal because it’s fine so it’s just my negative side that needs to be replaced. I know you said you purchase two sets of Napa battery terminals and I’m a little confused so I wanted to ask. I do want to use the exact Napa negative battery terminal replacement that you used in this video. Which one specifically at Napa do I buy just for the negative side ? I will need to buy a pair ? The pair will come in two different size screws that the cable connects on? And only one replacement napa terminal in the pair will have a screw that fits the cable on the negative side ? Sorry for all the questions. Just trying to get this right
At Napa ask for a set of marine terminals. They will sell you to just throw the positive one away. I would recommend getting rid of the wing nut on top and replacing it with a regular hex nut but you can get by with the wing nut if you desire it. You will probably need to drill the metric hole to 5/16" to accommodate the negative terminal. They told me the same thing three grand to replace a battery terminal.... I couldn't hang up the phone fast enough.
The reason for buying two terminal sets from Napa is so that you can have all of the hardware be the same but if you are not replacing the positive cable I wouldn't worry about it just by the one set.
Thank you for the response I love jeeps but dislike Chrysler . They take playing the “got you” game way too far. It’s good to hear from people finding work arounds to Chryslers BS So the Napa marine terminals come with wing nuts? I can tell from your video that I would rather use the hex bolts that you used. do I need to buy the hex bolts separately or did the hex bolts also come in your Naps marine terminal package? Sounds good on only needing to buy one set because I’m only doing the negative side… So you used a 5/16 for both your negative and positive sides ? If I heard correctly in your video you said that that drilling the 10 or 11 millimeter stock battery cable hole to open up the size of the cable hole was not necessary for the negative side cable hole so that the cable can fit on the 5/16 Napa marine terminal. But if I’m understanding correctly it turns out that you think this may be required ? If drilling my stock negative side battery cable hole is required for it to fit down on the Napa marine battery terminal screw on the negative side I may have to find another negative battery terminal replacement. If it turns out that the stock negative battery cable is a little too small to fit on the screw after installing the marine terminal could I simply tap the negative battery terminal with a hammer down onto the screw ?
Thank you for explaining that . For now I will only need one pair because only the negative battery terminal is in need of replacement and when the positive side needs replacement I’ll know exactly what to buy at napa so both sides will eventually match . Unless now using a stock positive side terminal and a Napa negative side terminal somehow triggers electrical problem related check engine lights, which knowing Chrysler I would not be surprised lol
Hmm very interesting I`m down here in South Florida my jeep is a 16 and have`nt had that problem. I will say I look at the gauge of wire and question it carrying all the current threw such small wire makes me think they used just enough size to get by. I may go with a Tinned 2GA wire if I can fine it. Good video.
