Chicken Scratch Apologetics, this will focus on the Jehovah's Witness's door to door ministry. The group claims it's a Biblical practice, but it did the first century do that?

This is well done! Sadly, no matter how well you try to explain this to JWs, most of them won't hear you because that would demolish such a point of pride that they refuse to even consider that it's wrong. When you ask them why they trust those eight men in NY so implicitly, they never share their credentials or even discuss them at all. Instead they always divert to "We're the only ones who use Jehovah's name", "We're the only ones to talk about the kingdom", and of course "We're the only ones who go door to door". You rip one of those three legs off the stool and it doesn't stand very well anymore.

Hi Janice. It's true that pride may be the issue for JW's refusal to accept the truth. One of the things that frustrates me is their intellectual dishonesty. When they know they're wrong or know they can't given an answer or the answer destroys their position, they will deflect and refuse to answer your question. That frustrates me. However, we need to have some understanding. JW's are part of a high control group and leaving it can be devastating. For many it means giving up their entire social structure and that would be difficult for anyone. That's aside from the fact that it is hard for anyone to accept that their most deeply held beliefs are wrong, and that all the effort and energy they have expended was for nothing-that is a hard pill to swallow. These are just the human elements, there are also the spiritual elements: Satan has blinded the minds of those who do not believe (2Cor 4:4). Our arguments help to remove stones that stand in the way of belief, but, ultimately, salvation is a work of God. Our job is to know Christ so that we might reflect his love to them, know God's word that we might be able to provide answers to their objections, and know ourselves so that we do not become haughty but will remain humble as we reflect on the fact that we were lost guilty sinners who deserve eternal punishment-but Christ died for us! Does this come off as preachy? If it does, please know that I'm not preaching at you, I'm preaching at myself. Your post reflects how I feel most of the time when I interact with JW's and as I reflected upon it, I decided to write this reminder myself: I need to remember to be sensitive to the situation that JW's are in. If other Christians read this, hopefully they'll agree that "I" need to be gracious, have compassion and patience, and above all, look to God to do a work in their lives. And who knows, maybe God will use one of us to plant the seed that will lead someone to accept the true gospel. Anyways, these are just my reflections. God bless.

This has been a hot topic of debate for me. I am fortunate to have a copy of the Kingdom Interlinear. I use it to disprove JW interpretations of scripture, namely the topic of the video. House to house is translated from the Koine Greek words kata oikos which the Kingdom Interlinear translates as "according to house". I have compared this to Strongs Concordance and they do agree although there is a few ways of translating those words. Many modern translations of the bible translate kata oikos as "in every house" or "in their homes". In Acts 20:20 Paul taught the elders "according to their house" which means Paul taught them in a home or in their homes. No one was proselytizing. If you want to translate that as church, thats fine. The first century church met on Sunday evening in someone's home. The context doesn't translate as going house to house. That wouldn't even make sense in this scripture. Acts 5:42 They were teaching in the temple and "according to their house" or in their homes or in every house. The early church, especially gentiles, met in homes. Again it doesn't really translate as house to house. What is interesting is the last clause of Acts 5:42. "they continued to teach and preach that Jesus is the Messiah". I've never had a JW come to my door and even mention Jesus. If they did I initiated it. The JWs are recruiting members. This was started by Taze Russell to invite people to his bible study. Rutherford liked the idea to bring in new members to the cult. Good video.

Here's some more relevant Bible verses: House == Church: _Philemon 1:2 ESV_ and Apphia our sister and Archippus our fellow soldier, and *the church in your house:* Paul taught from his own house: _Acts 28:30 ESV_ He lived there two whole years at his own expense, and welcomed *all who came to him,* It was only the apostles teaching house to house (church to church) in Jerusalem: _Acts 5:40-42 ESV_ and when they had called in *the apostles,* they beat them and charged them not to speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. [41] Then they left the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer dishonor for the name. [42] And every day, in the temple and from house to house, *they did not cease teaching and preaching that the Christ is Jesus.* The body of Christ must preach and teach but not everyone in the body of Christ has the same role: _Romans 12:4-8 ESV_ For as in one body we have many members, and *the members do not all have the same function,* [5] so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. [6] Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; [7] if service, in our serving; *the one who teaches, in his teaching;* [8] the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.

Jesus was notoriously at odds with the Pharisees (JWs of that time) who added to the law all of their man made unbiblical teachings. Let's see. Let's use JWs dubious Unbiblical Birthday celebrations displeases Jehovah God man made false teaching and belief. Okay if a JWs is asked to provide just one scripture where Jehovah God says DO NOT celebrate your birthdays for this displeases me, JWs won't be able so. Kinda like most of JWs teachings and beliefs. But JWs will show you how on birthdays of two wicked Men someone was murdered. Now the critical thinking question is what was most significant in these accounts a Birthday!!!! or the fact that someone was Murdered!!!! Last time I Checked Thou shall not kill is still a commandment!!! I never seen a scripture saying Thou shall Not celebrate your birthday!!! JWs also conveniently leave out Job Jehovah's most faithful servant celebrating "his day" or Birthdays. "his day" means "his birthday." This is not debatable!!! After this opened Job his mouth, and cursed his day. Job 3:1 KJV "His sons used to hold feasts in their homes on their birthdays, and they would invite their three sisters to eat and drink with them" Job 1:4 NIV "And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with the" Job 1:4 KJV Watchtower blatantly LIES by saying, "For one thing, the Scriptures contain no indication that any of God’s faithful servants celebrated birthdays" 1st paragraph/last sentence. wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/1994527 Please wake up and come to "The Truth" my friend. @@jwdefensor8055 your own new world translation defeats your false hood. Your own New World translation teaches at Jesus Christ as eternal and that he is the Almighty God because he claims it in your own New World translation. Furthermore Jehovah God is called mighty in your new translation by name so right there saying that Jesus is called mighty, trying to make him a lesser God than God the father. And saying no that Jehovah God has never called mighty at any time when your own new world translation clearly says that he is so therefore you go over to Isaiah chapter 9 verse six in your new world translation Jesus is then called the mighty God both the title of mighty and Almighty are different that is correct, but they are both applied to the father and son equally. (At 4:20) Notice Pliny's letter said "and sing a hymn to Christ as to a god." A god. Some Trinitarians like James White and Ralph Martin mistranslate Pliny by saying "as to God". "Christ as to a god" Latin: Christo quasi deo Meaning of quasi: quasi-, prefix. quasi- comes from Latin, where it has the meaning "as if, as though.'' It is attached to adjectives and nouns and means "having some of the features but not all; •having some resemblance usually by possession of certain attributes. •used to show that something is almost, but not completely, the thing described.

I have proven to you several times that your organization has twisted the gospel about Jesus Christ. (Galatians 1:6-9). Jesus Christ did not warn against people in the world, but against confreres who would spread false messages in His name. After that, Jesus exhorted His true followers not to follow anyone who publicly claimed that he had returned hidden from the world. (Matthew 24:22-27). However, Jesus emphasized that his parousia will take place in a supernatural scenario. (Luke 17:22-23; Matthew 24:27; 24,30). In this context, Jesus explained that these teachers would be distinguished by great signs and wonders. Therefore, the number of members or the size of an organization and its real estate assets cannot be decisive. Rather, Jesus commanded that His followers should not accumulate treasures on earth? Question: ========= If Jesus referred to the doctrine of the invisible presence as "the" hallmark of the "false prophet," how can you claim that your teaching is based on biblical truth? Under Russell, 1874 was considered a decisive date. Under his successor Rutherford, this date was subsequently changed to 1914? Hadn't Russell called himself God's mouthpiece? How can it be explained that God's mouthpiece has succumbed to a fallacy regarding this crucial date?

Unity for its own sake is backwards. Seek and cling to the truth, and unity will follow. (There will always be debatable things, but on major issues, unity will FOLLOW truth, not define it.) That's why Hayden Covington's testimony is so very disturbing. Q. It was promulgated as a matter which must be believed by all members of Jehovah's witnesses that the Lord's Second Coming took place in 1874? That was the publication of false prophecy? A. That was the publication of a false prophecy, it was a false statement or an erroneous statement in fulfillment of a prophecy that was false or erroneous. Q. And that had to be believed by the whole of Jehovah's Witnesses? A. Yes, because you must understand, we must have unity, we cannot have disunity with a lot of people going every way, an army is supposed to march in step. Q. If a member of Jehovah's witnesses took the view himself that that prophecy was wrong, and said so, would he be disfellowshipped? A. Yes, if he said so, and kept on persisting in creating trouble, because if the whole organisation believes one thing, even though it be erroneous, and somebody else starts on his own trying to put his ideas across, then there is a disunity and trouble, there cannot be harmony, there cannot be marching ...... Our purpose is to have unity. Q. Unity at all costs? A. Unity at all costs, because we believe and are sure that Jehovah God is using our organisation, the governing body of our organisation, to direct it, even though mistakes are made from time to time. *_Q. A unity based on an enforced acceptance of false prophecy?_* *_A. That is conceded to be true._*

Sir Isaac Newton, 1642 - 1747, had this to say after his thorough study on Bible Prophey:- "About the time of the End, a body of men will be raised up who will turn their attention to the prophecies, and insist upon their literal interpretation, in the midst of much clamor and opposition.” So he knew that there would be an End Times Restoration, a conclusion which he had arrived at, AFTER his diligent study of the Book of Daniel and the Book of the Revelation. The Question I now have is Which is the Restored Church today? There really are only a few candidates, ie. JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES MORMONS METHODISTS EVANGELICALS BORN AGAIN REVIVSLISTS SEVENTH DAY ADVENTISTS CHRISTADELPHIANS DAWN BIBLE STUDENTS RUSSELITES etc. Perhaps these Movements make up the '10 Virgins' spoken of in Matthew Chapter 25? Most of them have had some opposition, but Jehovah' Witnesses have attracted the most opposition.

I hope this is a joke. If it isn’t, One, Sir Issac Newton is not the final say on Bible prophecy, nor is he an expert on the subject, he discovered gravity, he wasn’t a theologian. What matters is who is preaching the real Christ and real gospel from Scripture alone, something the Roman Catholic Church stopped doing. Witnesses do not preach the real gospel, there’s is a perversion, along with their Bible, and their fake Christ. Not because we say so, because scripture does. This comment though, wow dude.

A full apostasy is denied by Mathew 13 : 24 through 43. Notice how the wheat grows WITH the weeds. 1st Timothy 4 says SOME will fall away. The Bible nowhere says an apostasy will be 100 percent. The Jehovah's Witnesses are using a bible translated by 5 men with only one who had a QST grade knowledge of Greek. The circular logic they use is ment to confuse people. If you really look at what they are saying there is no soundness to it. I wonder how he came up with those "candidate" churches? He probably doesn't know himself. What is interesting to me is Jehovah's Witnesses go into automatic pilot on any given topic. All they really are doing is quoting from he organization website. They don't think about the topics.

The first example you've used is Jesus sending his disciples out. They were told to stay in one home where they would receive hospitality for the duration of their stay in that village or city. So your conclusion is they were not going door to door preaching but looking for accommodation. Matthew 10:5-11 New Living Translation *5Jesus sent out the twelve apostles with these instructions: “Don’t go to the Gentiles or the Samaritans, 6but only to the people of Israel* -God’s lost sheep. *7Go and announce to them that the Kingdom of Heaven* is near.d 8Heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy, and cast out demons. Give as freely as you have received! 9“Don’t take any money in your money belts-no gold, silver, or even copper coins. 10Don’t carry a traveler’s bag with a change of clothes and sandals or even a walking stick. *Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality, because those who work deserve to be fed.11“Whenever you enter a city or village, search for a worthy person and stay in his home until you leave town.* But notice the next verses. It shows how Jesus disciples determined whom to stay with...it was their response to the message. So while they were preaching from door to door, spreading the kingdom message they were also open to being shown hospitality - Food and shelter. *But primarily they were preaching from home to home.* Matthew 10:12-14 New Living Translation 12When you enter the home, give it your blessing. 13If it turns out to be a worthy home, let your blessing stand; if it is not, take back the blessing. *14If any household or town refuses to welcome you or listen to your message,* shake its dust from your feet as you leave. A parallel account by Luke confirms the same - The disciples were to stay in one home while they carried out the preaching assignment. But again their primary mission was not searching for food and shelter but proclaiming the good news of the kingdom of God. Luke 9:1-6 New International Version *Jesus Sends Out the Twelve* 1When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, *2and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God* and to heal the sick. 3He told them: “Take nothing for the journey-no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt. *4Whatever house you enter, stay there until you leave that town.* 5If people do not welcome you, leave their town and shake the dust off your feet as a testimony against them.” *6So they set out and went from village to village, proclaiming the good news* and healing people everywhere. Marks parallel account shows how the disciples were organised in the work. They worked in pairs/2's. Mark 6:6-11 New Living Translation Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Disciples Then Jesus went from village to village, teaching the people. *7And he called his twelve disciples together and began sending them out two by two,* giving them authority to cast out evilc spirits. 8He told them to take nothing for their journey except a walking stick-no food, no traveler’s bag, no money.d 9He allowed them to wear sandals but not to take a change of clothes. *10“Wherever you go,” he said, “stay in the same house until you leave town.* 11But if any place refuses to welcome you or listen to you, shake its dust from your feet as you leave to show that you have abandoned those people to their fate.” So from those 3 accounts we see that the disciples of Jesus were sent out in pairs to preach in villages and towns. They were to accept hospitality at homes as they preached from door to door. When someone was receptive to the message about the kingdom and offered lodging the disciples could accept. Why are those accounts significant? Because it shows that Jesus trained his followers/disciples in the work he would later give them to do worldwide after his death. Acts 1:8 New Living Translation 8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, *telling people about me everywhere-in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”* If Jesus trained his followers in how to preach about the Kingdom before his death, how would they proceed after his death? They did exactly as they were trained and told to do starting in Jerusalem - That included Witnessing from house to house... Acts 5:27,28,42 New Living Translation *27Then they brought the apostles before the high council,* where the high priest confronted them. 28“We gave you strict orders never again to teach in this man’s name!” he said. *“Instead, you have filled all Jerusalem with your teaching* about him, and you want to make us responsible for his death!” *41The apostles* left the high council rejoicing that God had counted them worthy to suffer disgrace for the name of Jesus. *42And every day, in the Temple and from house to house,* they continued to teach and preach this message: “Jesus is the Messiah.” Jehovah's Witnesses therefore are following closely in the steps of Jesus and his early disciples... 1 Peter 2:21 New Living Translation For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. *He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.*

@@LightoverDarkMinistryYou seem to think that following Jesus means to do everything exactly like him...lets test that... Luke 9:1-4 New Living Translation *Jesus Sends Out the Twelve Disciples* 1One day Jesus called together his twelve disciplesa and gave them power and authority to cast out all demons and to heal all diseases. 2Then he sent them out to tell everyone about the Kingdom of God and to heal the sick. *3“Take nothing for your journey,” he instructed them. “Don’t take a walking stick, a traveler’s bag, food, money,b or even a change of clothes. 4Wherever you go, stay in the same house until you leave town.* Luke 10:1-8 New Living Translation *Jesus Sends Out His Disciples* 1The Lord now chose seventy-twoa other disciples and *sent them ahead in pairs* to all the towns and places he planned to visit. 2These were his instructions to them: “The harvest is great, but the workers are few. So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields. 3Now go, and remember that I am sending you out as lambs among wolves. *4Don’t take any money with you, nor a traveler’s bag, nor an extra pair of sandals. And don’t stop to greet anyone on the road. 5“Whenever you enter someone’s home, first say, ‘May God’s peace be on this house.’ 6If those who live there are peaceful, the blessing will stand; if they are not, the blessing will return to you. 7Don’t move around from home to home. Stay in one place, eating and drinking what they provide. Don’t hesitate to accept hospitality,* because those who work deserve their pay. 8“If you enter a town and it welcomes you, eat whatever is set before you. So that's the way Jesus wants the preaching teaching done right? Notice what he later says toward the end of his life on earth... Luke 22:35,36 New Living Translation 35Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you out to preach the Good News and you did not have money, a traveler’s bag, or an extra pair of sandals, did you need anything?” “No,” they replied. *36“But now,” he said, “take your money and a traveler’s bag. And if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one!* Jesus saw a change coming to how his followers would be received. Now they would need to be more self-sufficient. They would be preaching outside of a society that was hospitable. In other words Jesus said his followers would need to adapt... After Jesus death look how the early Christians acted... Acts 2:42-47 New Living Translation The Believers Form a Community 42All the believers devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching, and to fellowship, *and to sharing in meals* (including the Lord’s Supperi), and to prayer. 43A deep sense of awe came over them all, and the apostles performed many miraculous signs and wonders. *44And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. 45They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need.* 46They worshiped together at the Temple each day, *met in homes for the Lord’s Supper, and shared their meals with great joy and generosityj* - 47all the while praising God and enjoying the goodwill of all the people. And each day the Lord added to their fellowship those who were being saved. Acts 4:32-37 New Living Translation *The Believers Share Their Possessions* 32All the believers were united in heart and mind. And they felt that what they owned was not their own, so they shared everything they had. 33The apostles testified powerfully to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and God’s great blessing was upon them all. 34There were no needy people among them, because those who owned land or houses would sell them 35and bring the money to the apostles to give to those in need. 36For instance, there was Joseph, the one the apostles nicknamed Barnabas (which means “Son of Encouragement”). He was from the tribe of Levi and came from the island of Cyprus. 37He sold a field he owned and brought the money to the apostles. Acts 5:41,42 New Living Translation 41The apostles left the high council rejoicing that God had counted them worthy to suffer disgrace for the name of Jesus.d *42And every day, in the Temple and from house to house, they continued to teach and preach* this message: “Jesus is the Messiah.” **Jehovah's Witnesses follow the general pattern Jesus set and adapt as times change...** Make sure you tag me in with replies otherwise there is no notification...

Do not move from house to house in Luke 5:7 doesn’t say don’t preach from house to house. It means when you find someone deserving, someone hospitable and you stay with them eating and drinking, don’t go transferring to other houses. Maybe they find someone deserving who has a nicer house, nice accommodations, etc. They went to the city to preach, yes. They weren’t talking to all whom they could reach in more then just one way. House to House is one way they preached. Notice Luke that you sighted said the “worker is worthy his wages”. They were working for the Lord. They took no money supplies. They relied on the hospitality of the one deserving. That home they started in would be their base, and the city of There field. When they finished with that town our city, they moved to another one, trusting that God would supply their needs through those who He would call.

Yes, but "house to house" and "door to door" aren't necessarily the same thing. He's not saying that it's wrong to preach door to door. Telling people that it's a requirement for salvation is what he's calling out as incorrect. Saying that the WT is the only true religion because they're the only ones going door-to-door is also incorrect.

Hi Syed, thanks for your post. You seem like a intelligent, thoughtful person, and I appreciate that. There is a major problem with Islam that I want you to think about. The Quran affirms the inspiration, preservation and authority of the Bible (and that's a problem for Islam). For example, S. 5:43 says, “how is it that they (Jews) come to thee for judgment, when they have (presently) the Torah, wherein *IS* God’s Judgment?” The Study Quran says, “This verse, then, along with vv. 44-47, indicates that *the Torah and the Gospel remain valid sources of moral and legal judgment and guidance for Jews and Christians,* respectively, even after the coming of the Prophet-indeed, even in his presence. See also v. 68, where the People of the Book are likewise enjoined to observe their scriptures.”[1] S. 5:7 says, “Let the people of the Gospel judge by what God has sent down therein. Whosoever judges not by that which God has sent down-it is they who are iniquitous.” Again the Study Quran says, “This verse indicates that *the Gospel remains a valid source of guidance for the people of the Gospel,* just as vv. 43-44 suggest that the Jews can continue to find guidance in the Torah. The continuing validity of these two scriptures is also suggested in v. 68: O People of the Book! You stand on naught till you observe the Torah and the Gospel, and that which has been sent down unto you from your Lord. Several commentators, however, argue that the exhortation here to follow the Gospel indicates only that they should have followed the Gospel prior to the coming of the Quran, which thereafter abrogated the scripture that came before it (IK, R). This reading seems implausible in light of other Quranic verses, however, since v. 43 questions why the Jews have come to the Prophet for judgment (regarding two Jewish adulterers) when they have the Torah, indicating that Prophetic adjudication is not necessary (even during his lifetime) as long as they follow their own scripture.” We have hundreds of manuscripts that pre-date Muhammad, which means that we know exactly what the Torah and Gospel said in the 7th century. This means Muslims can’t claim the Bible has been corrupted and are forced to deal with it as it is. Islamic scholars will engage with the Bible but Islamic apologists, who are dealing with the ignorant Muslim masses simply proclaim the Bible is corrupt, contrary to what the Quran says. So why is the Bible a problem for Islam? I encourage you to pick up a Bible and read the Gospel (Matthew, Mark, Luke & John). There you will find that Jesus is declared to be God (John 1:1; 1:18; 20:28). He calls Allah "Father" and encourages his disciples to pray, "Our Father..." but what does the Quran say about Allah being a Father, even a spiritual one? Jesus claimed that salvation was dependant on knowing him (John 17:3), not on being good. I could list many more, but I will end with this: Muhammad claimed to be in the Torah AND the Gospel. That was supposed to authenticate his prophethood. He could make such claims to ignorant peasants in the desert but you are an intelligent person who can read-you can look at the Torah and Gospel and see that Muhammad was lying-he isn't found anywhere in the Bible. If you think I'm wrong, please share where you think the Torah and Gospel speak of Muhammad and I will show you that they don't. You will be forced to say that the Bible is corrupt-contrary to the Quran, making the Quran false-or conclude that Muhammad was a liar-making the Quran false. Looking forward to hearing from you Syed. [1] Seyyed Hossein Nasr, ed., The Study Quran : A New Translation and Commentary (New York, NY: Harpercollins, 2015).
