Watchtower, Bible & Tract Society required to appear before the Australian Commission to explain their policies and procedures for addressing cases of victims within their institution. At the end of the hearing, the Australian government determined that the best way to address this issue, was to set up a redress scheme.
The redress scheme provides the individual with the ability to seek emotional counseling and to collect financial damages for their pain and suffering. Also, another key component is that the institutions are required to acknowledge their lack of responsibility to protect individuals by mishandling their cases.
Despite having more than one thousand cases on record, the Watchtower agreed that they never reported any of these cases to the legal authorities. However, they stated that according to their policy it is the responsibility of the individual to report such incidents to the authorities. As a result, members in the community were at risk based on the Watchtower not taking a stand or exhibiting a key role to keep others safe.

@Dilsedemoui it's a sad deal my friend, especially when our family and friends know the facts about their organization is right in front of them. As like Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "I have a dream..." My dream is One day our family and friends will wake up from this strong hold of an organization. Some are aware of the facts, but afraid to let go of what they have gained from their years of investment in that organization and will seattle until death with the same lame excuse to justify their reasons for staying in that highly controlled religion. Most don't have much going on in life and the organization is all they have to make them feel valued loved and of an importance. It will take a cajun chicken biscuit from Bojangles'🍪 for guys like Bro. Herd or Lett too give up their high position and their free room and board to publicly admit that all this time the organization is not the truth. Lol 🤣🤣 I hope one day Bro. Herd will wake up and publicly admit it's not the truth and see how our family and friends react to that. A wishful hope that he will come out with a tell tale all book.

Has anybody ever seen or heard the Governing Body apologize for anything?? As individual members, we were always expected to apologetically confess to our shortcomings and repent of our errant ways, yet for the organization there is clearly a double standard when they are in the wrong.

I've said this to my wife plenty of times. They hold you accountable for your sins and mistakes. And require sincere repentance. But they NEVER apologize when they misled and get things wrong. They just cover it up and expect you to move on and forget it with no remorse.

Great job JT. It certainly shows the true colors of those that direct the organization when they will only apologize and do what's right when they are faced with losing a lot of money. It reveals their lack of humility and concern for victims...and a forced apology is not a true apology as it did not initiate in their hearts. But hey, we can be happy at least that the Australian justice system has essentially forced them to do what's best for victims and prevent more cases of abuse.

What my hope is other countries can use the Australian commission as a model to assist victims so they don’t have to be traumatised even more than they have going through litigation. Whatever country when you are in litigation to address these horrendous crimes it is personally and more importantly emotionally taxing. Countries such as the UK had similar inquiries which were toothless and not well covered in the media at all. Australia needs to be commended for this as I am certain it wouldn’t happen in any other country in this form (redress scheme)

Another excellent video. Just to reiterate JT’s point about high control groups, I once asked my mother, who is a diehard JW, that if I presented her with undisputed facts about the WT, but these facts put the WT in a negative light, would she want to hear? Her answer was a resounding NO. This is music to the governing body’s ears. Most JWs unfortunately are like my mother and do not want to think critically for themselves. But eventually some do wake up, thanks in part to true and factual videos like this one. Much love to JT and Lady Cee!

No they are already making excuses saying it didn’t happen as the organisation didn’t have the institutional settings for this to happen such as summer camps etc. Therefore the org shouldn’t be held responsible and it’s down to the parents. It’s been dressed up as yet another element of persecution on God’s true organisation. None of these excuses applied for the Catholic Church but are in full effect now!

Excellent video!! I argued with my cousin until I was hoarse trying to get him to see that Watchtower policies were responsible for ongoing abuse. He was adamant it wasn't Watchtower policies but the individual parents at fault. Now that they have joined the scheme and will be forced to apologise for shortcomings, I am hopeful this will open his eyes

Yeah they didn't say that scheme also means program or plan. As far as their stance on "let the individual or family deal with it" I'll tell you what one of the rules of first responders and rescuers is. A sick or injured person is not let to make decisions. When a person comes forward saying they've been abused, that person is a victim, they're injured and sick. They came to you, just as someone might call 911. It is your DUTY to make decisions for that person. You must get them help.

Geez, the part about you saying 2nd graders putting up more of a fight; I can’t remember how many times I stood up for the beliefs I was raised in but I remember how empty it felt when I left because I was one child standing up for an organization’s future, when that organization never made good on the future it promised me since I was a little boy reading their publications and knocking on doors and giving bible readings (talks). It seems the JW's thought they had the OPTION to join the redress scheme or not. So they opted to hold out as long as possible. When threatened with losing their charity status, they said they would join because the law REQUIRES charities to join and they want to obey the authorities. They were named and shamed into joining. They did not want to help victims, nor accept any blame. If they truly believed they were right, they would have appealed this to the highest court.
