Is The Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses Losing Their Grip? Blame the Apostates & Media

This podcast critiques the talk presented by Governing Body member David Splane from the 2021 Regional Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses. It helps individuals to use critical thinking when listening to the comments on how the Jehovah’s Witness leadership tries to convince its members to treat information they receive from former members or the media.
Throughout his talk, Splane uses the phrase “Spiritual Poison” to describe the bad publicity the organization experiences from anyone speaking negatively about them.
He discourages Bible studies from investigating sources outside of the Watchtower when seeking to learn more information about the religion. He proudly states it’s not an option for a Bible study to investigate information they receive from their non-Jehovah’s Witness spouse asking them to check out the religion prior to joining. Instead, he says, “we have nothing to hide” and begins outlining alternate ways for individuals to learn more about Jehovah’s Witnesses.
Listen carefully to the brothers at meetings
* Watch how we interact with one another
* Take note of how the organization is financed
* Get to know the elders & their wives
* Introduce yourself to the circuit overseer & his wife
* Visit the world headquarters of the branch
During his discourse, Splane makes an offhanded comment about the things that individuals are no doubt discussing in an online forum. He goes on to say that people are no doubt asking, “do you think the brothers that write Watchtower articles are living in the real world?” and “I wonder if they realize just how hard it is out here.”
Wow! He nailed it. This is exactly what takes place at Watchtower headquarters. And the individuals sitting in the audience are so brainwashed that these type of statements go right over their head. They fail to take time to investigate what is being said from the platform. The Governing Body delivers the exact information they need to wake up and get out, all they have to do is use critical thinking to examine their statements.
During the talk, Splane asks, “how does it make you feel”? after going to an online forum and listening to apostates talk negatively about the organization? He then follows up his statement with the following questions:
* When you leave the online forum, do you feel upbuilt?
* Do you feel determined to expand your ministry?
* Are you more convinced than ever that Jehovah has a loving organization and you feel honored to be part of it?

Actually the Watchtower Society is their own biggest apostate/adversary. Because they define apostates as someone who defects from or left their healthful teaching or who do not believe what they have been taught by the Society. Yet their teachings and beliefs today have left the teachings of their predecessors. Their predecessors left the healthful teachings of their predecessors and so on...They have repeatedly left their own "healthful teachings" and no longer believe what they were previously taught by the previous Society "Governing Bodies" all done under the guise of "new light" or "new understanding"..But when we receive new light or new understanding we are apostates.LOL..

see that’s what’s so baffling about Splanes talk. he knows this book you refer to exists. He knows it would be disastrous if rank n file dubs got ahold of it. Maybe this talk isn’t as baffling as it seems- it’s really an act of desperation. you can see it on his face. BTW- they don’t talk about the cry of peace and security anymore. or the annihilation of babylon the great- which is supposed to precede Armageddon, right? all it is anymore is made up “dramatizations” and lectures by the GB and helpers. do dubs even conduct bible studies, really? do people even want to do a bible study on Zoom? what if they don’t have reliable high speed internet?

Similar here but I was actually taught from the get go to be “afraid” of apostates. Genuine frightened! And I was a 20-22 year old convert that mentally plunged headlong into this in 1992-1994. The organization and our “study conductors” made us subvert our objectivity and critical thinking skills unless it was “objective” under watchtower’s accepted narrative paradigm. All “apostates” were trying to do was inform us of the real facts of truth and reality.

Prior to the internet, when asked about apostate claims or literature, our answer used to be; "If you wanted to go to university, would you ask a university dropout what it's like ?" (The irony of going to university was never noticed, of course.) I used to think, but NEVER said out loud, "Yeah, I would". If I wanted to buy a used car and noticed that, in only a few years, it had been owned by 5 or 6 different people I would want to talk to those people to see why they offloaded the vehicle. The salesman is only telling you about the good bits. It's a "nice, clean car !" he says. But it's mechanically faulty.

If you’re an active JW, ask yourself, would you make an Amazon purchase from someone who tells you never to read any negative reviews about them because they’re all lies? Of course not, that would be ridiculous. Do you believe everyone who posts a negative review on Amazon is lying? Of course not. Everyone reads the reviews so that you can make an informed purchase about not only the product you’re buying, but also feel confident that the seller will deliver on their promises. So why would you not do the same when it comes to making a life altering decision about your religion? As JT and Lady Cee always say, ask yourself the critical thinking questions.

If you are a JW you will not be deprived of negative comments about your religion. You go door to door, school, work, neighbours everywhere people have something negative to say about JWs. So why would I come to some 'Ex'jw channel to get more biased negative comments about my religion. Obviously the founders of this channel had one and only one intension when they formed this chanel, to eliminate the JW faith. That to me is Not an unbiased, objective review. I certainly would never go to my husband's ex to learn about my husband, what else would a bitter ex tell me about my husband 😂

The physiological fight-or-flight response that is triggered when you perceive physical danger is the same response that is triggered when you are facing a barrage of conflicting information about which you hold to be true and precious. This explains why the GB is investing so much time and resources talking about the apostates and opposers. It's kinda ironical that for example, if elders heard a Jw on ministry answering:"You are correct, no criticism is allowed for us Jehovah's witnesses against the governing body, but we have to agree in everything they say or there are consequencies.", it wouldn't be greeted well at all. The accusation might be: "untheocratic behaviour", not because the statement is not true, but because it doesn't glorify the GB.

VIDEO. for me, waking up was like a dam of information broke and flooded my mind with information about this org that i never knew, the majority of which was deliberately withheld by the org itself.

@@Rhonda_Maldonado_61824 Yes, that show’s not been on for ages (except for reruns), I loved it whilst it was on, but I haven’t watched TV for maybe 30 years now so I don’t know what reruns are still being broadcast… In any case, ever since I read about how entitled and rude Lucille Ball was towards airline hosts/hostesses (and probably others) it has modified my attitude towards her and her comedy routines; much like my opinion of many Hollywood celebrities…

I'm so glad I left. I wasn't happy with being with the witness. I was always doing research and which sucks I have family as witness. They would tell me I'm being selfish for leaving and I am making a big mistake for leaving. I been told what's wrong with me for leaving. Always making me feel guilty . I felt trap

The more you need to hit a person the more you show your weakness. A person who has nothing to fear and who does not feel in danger will not seek to defend himself and even less to attack. Only people who feel in danger have this kind of behavior. In reality this worship does not rely on any divine protection. The leaders of this cult gesticulate and no longer know how to avoid disaster. They will quickly realize that their worship is dedicated to a cardboard god.

I did some ridiculously heavy studying and couldn't find a biblical basis to many JW doctrines, along with many JW's holding the words of the Watchtower (and Awake) magazine as equivalent to actual scripture and it just didn't make sense. I came from multiple generations of JWs so it was a real shock to the family but ironically it was pretty easy to leave. I was on my own, I'd left New Jersey and moved to ATL and was making good money so my family really had nothing negative to say about me like..."Oh look, he left now he's doing bad." I wish we were closer because now I have a wife and 4 children but it kinda is what it is. My mother comes to hang out with the grandchildren but she kinda keeps it to herself. My sister left shortly after me so we're close...the rest of the extended family really aren't trying to have much to do with me but it is what it is. As long as my mom knows the grands and my dad and I reconciled before he died so he met one of the grands before he died so I'm kinda at peace with things now.

Exactly no family gatherings equals no family .I'm just over it now .At least my children have good childhood memories of birthdays and holidays.The only vacation we went on growing up was based around the JW convention .I didn't see the beach until I was a teenager .No happy memories at all ,really resent my mother for that one .

After I retired I moved to NC and went to an assembly in Winston Salem. Attended two days and it just didn't feel right. Came home that Saturday night and ran across an ex jw channel and found out about the UN NGO membership. Even though I had been living my life I still believed in some things. After weeks of research I was done.

I am being disfellowshipped tonight because i researched my religion. I have been a witness for 60 years brought 6 kids into it also. Now im out and i just have 2 kids in. I pray that jehovah and jesus. Will open there eyes also and i will pray for my fellow witnesses to have there eyes opened too

I haven’t been a JW however I got tied up in a cult, I.e. “only we have the truth. Don’t mix with other church people. Your pastor is anointed and questioning him is like questioning God”. The abuse we suffered caused myself and my wife to abandon church for many years. Looking from the outside many years later it seems so obvious, but we were blind at the time

@@ExJWCriticalThinker A very subtle progression & sounds so similar to JW experiences. Initial excitement, then putting trust in the pastor, and putting all your heart and energies into serving the ministry. Then the teaching from our senior pastor, about God’s anointed (ie the position of the leader). It was disloyal to visit another church, and only we had the complete and inspired truth. When people suddenly left, we never questioned or followed them up. They were abandoning the truth. I became part of the leadership circle. One day the senior pastor said that our youth pastor had resigned and left due to personal reasons. I was quite taken aback as it was so sudden and our children were so happy under his leadership. The youth pastor’s father was a good friend of mine and we caught up for coffee each week. At the next week’s coffee I found that the true version of events was totally different and the senior pastor had lied to me and the church, and that his treatment of the youth pastor had been brutal. It turned out he wasn’t achieving his ‘growth targets’ in the numbers of youth attending. This started the process of unravelling for us.

I'm laughing so much right now. Recently some friends of mines who asked me about the convention I brought up this talk. I brought up the part where the Governing Body through David Splane says even members of the congregation even cause a negative effect in the Organization by asking these questions, "Do the brothers who write the Watchtower magazines live in the real world out here with us? Do they know how hard it is for us out here? I told them they can't even point out the facts they they in the headquarters live off the finances of us who live out here in the real world while we out here have to earn a living through employment. Questions that really matter! Their response was leave it in Jehovah's hands🤣 I insisted that they provide evidence to disprove what I said as a lie and their only defense was " leave it in Jehovah's hands". I laughed in their faces and said" yeah you do that, I will use my God given talents to improve the quality of my life and that of my family. I further said Jehovah blesses our faith when we take action. And I listed Noah, Moses, Samuel , David, The Apostles etc. They were silent and said I am focused on the negative focus on the message. I said yes the true message of the Bible. Great Video JT and Lady Cee.

I left the organization in 2009. After 10 years I finally left and never went back. Those people are complete hypocrites. The Kingdom Hall I went to actually closed and they sold the land to another church. I had to laugh.

I'm of the opinion, they don't really believe in a Biblical God ... too much roundabout calling Jesus a liar, when they aren't ignoring him. How does one believe in the Father when one doesn't believe in the Son? There is no jumping chain of command. There also is no Jehovah's organization in the NT, there's only Jesus' Congregation for everyone. They think they are some modern God.

I did my research 30 years ago with no internet. It was so much slower and involved leg work getting to hard to reach libraries. I found a couple of shelves devoted to evaluating bible translations. When I found out of all these books only one paragraph devoted to the NWT I was intrigued. The author explained that the NWT was not worthy of critiquing for all the errors in the translation. It was clear to me that the author had only included the mention to be complete and not as an apostate attack on the JWs. I tried to satisfy my curiosity by asking my parents who was on the translation committee and what their language speciality was. I was told that this was secret. Maybe the vague reason was to give credit to God rather than man. This immediately raised my bs detector, how could anyone try to pass off something as bleedingly obvious as this as needing to be ‘secret’? How could they not be subject to the same language and translation credentials as any other translation work bringing an ancient language to a modern language. I decided that I had a sneaky organisation that had infiltrated my immediate and extended family and not a sneaky God. Despite that realisation it took many years for me to allow someone calling themselves Christian to be a friend and I still default to viewing organisations as deviants, especially religious ones. I think this is known by psychologists as ‘attachment disorder’. One thing I’m grateful for is the crass disdain for knowledge and understanding only drove me in my endeavours to educate myself. I now have a bachelors and masters. The internet blesses us with a community of many of who have shared the emotional roller coaster of coercive control exercised vicariously through parents and caregivers. It’s an organisational form of ‘battered wife syndrome’. In my jurisdiction the criminal law is starting to recognise this as an element of domestic violence and I’m wondering when corporations law may catch up, especially in the area where the public subsidise charitable organisations to further the interests of a religion as a public benefit. I wonder if the public will be feeling as generous with testimonies such as those given at the Australian Royal Commission which evidences a religion acting as a front for a sham kangaroo court dedicated to hiding CSAs.

When I was in, I didn't even know about a secret book, I didn't even know about shunning at all. I quess I wasn't paying attention! I had 3 little kids so I couldn't be a pioneer so I was never really accepted and my husband was commuting to work so he wasn't doing the mandated hours per month either so he was told he would be destroyed if he didn't do more hours on service. That didn't encourage him at all because he had to supporting his family. We slowly woke up. The sad part was I lost my JW family, my mom brothers and sister and all their kids.

I find it strange that before being baptized, one can ask any question they please without any consequences. AFTER getting baptized, you cannot ask questions, visit "apostate" channels/ blogs. It's like a prison. Before baptism, they are campaigning. I'm happy to have found this channel. Currently PIMO (physically in mentally out). Time to make up for lost time and opportunities.

When you learn and do critical thinking research and find you been hoodwinked. Well It’s like in the “What the Bible teaches “ book - of the candle when blown out and the smoke rises ( before they took the smoke out) . Just that fast you realize the flame is gone and the smoke rises and goes away. Everything you put your heart and soul into and sacrificed for was nothing less than false teachings and then left feeling so hurt. @@ExJWCriticalThinker i first knew something was wrong when i was trying to get reinstated after being disfellowshipped for NO REASON. (literally, i was df’d for no reason). the reinstatement process + the transition to Zoom, and the way i felt about the Zoom meetings, allowed me to grant myself permission, as bizarre as it may sound, to start searching for answers. during my search, i stumbled upon a couple youtube channels - one went by the name _ExJw Critical Thinker_ ;-) and the other was _Lloyd Evans_ and there were others as well. I watched a detailed video about 1975 on ExJw Critical Thinker- i had *never heard of the 1975 debacle in the entire 27 years (minus the df’d years) that i was a Jehovah’s Witness* - i was physically sickened. And finished with Watchtower.

I thought it was so interesting that David Splane asked the question, 'How does it make you feel?' Would the more appropriate question not be, 'What did you learn?' I found it shocking how he doesn't even hide the fact that it's all about feeling good. Factual information about 'the truth' is clearly secondary in his book. In fact, it's not even included in his book.
