Constance Damally I was an elder. Always loved deep bible study. But when I found out that many of our teachings are nothing but a construct and have no real basis in the bible I talked to my elder “friends” to get help to understand because I still had faith in the organisation. The answer I got when asking for instance about the basis for the monumentally important teaching about 1914( that Jerusalem fell in 607 when there is strong consensus among historians that it fell 587) was: “Where not here to criticise Jehovah’s org, or to “debate” which year Jerusalem fell, the question I instead was asked was “ Do you believe that the governing body is chosen by god in this day to lead his people”? So the “help” you’re referring to only amounts to putting people back in line...to obey and not question. This has nothing to do with lack of bible understanding as you’re trying to insinuate.....

I learned that the organization had been a NGO to the United Nations( only withdrawing it after their ties were discovered) and owning stocks in Boeing(war heads), HBO(sex and violence), and others that Jehovah would not approve. I don't have to read any of these comments all of you are leaving, most if not all are ludicrous if not ridiculous, I'm not saying some of you aren't hurt by what's happened in your lives, the thing is we don't follow men, we follow Jehovah through his dear son and our Lord Christ Jesus, and you'll find many good examples in scripture to follow as an example: Peter, Paul, Thomas and there's many more but mainly Paul who made a good point I encourage you to check it out, Ephesians 6:10-18; another good scripture to look up is Acts 5:33-40 when you read that and the context you'll see that Jehovah's work on earth was being done through Jesus disciples, yes Jesus disciples have had there flaws too, and made there mistakes too, but they all have one thing in common, that is they are fully accomplishing there ministry and look there are many on the face of this earth that have made there choice to follow men and not Jehovah, can they truthfully say they are fully accomplishing the ministry Jesus laid out for his true disciples in Matthew 24:14: whilst many are leaving there negative comments they can't be honestly doing what Jesus commanded, I would not want to be in there shoes when push comes to shove, just a thought.

Reading your comment made me tear up and saddens my heart that you or anyone feels that way. I’m sorry that you lost that time you invested into the JW religion. I’ve never been a JW and gone through what you are experiencing. The only thing close to it would have been leaving my 17 year marriage and investing into something that fell apart. In order to not feel like I wasted my time for all those years I had to look at the positives and what I gained, not lost. What was I grateful for? My son, I learned how to be a good wife, care for my family, stay on a budget, manage time...etc. . If you can look back on what you’ve learned over those years... there has to be SOME positives. Did you learn how to balance your life with work, family, meetings, field service? Did you learn to get up on Saturdays to go door to door no matter if you “felt like it” or not? Did you learn public speaking or how to talk to people? If you can say yes to these questions I’m sure there’s more you can think of. Use that as a starting point to say “Even though I lost years of time I learned ______, ______, and ______. Those learning experiences I will use for the rest of my life”. I hope anything I’ve said brings some encouragement to you. God bless.

I was once under the impression that JW's were for a time not active as a known group. but I had it explained that there were always someone who had the "truth". I believe they use an a-typical or an-typical scripture to say that this was what was prophesized until CT Russel began studying the bible. But i did read years ago that even prior to the Millerites (the great disappointment).There were the teachings I believe that even pre-dated the groups that came here on the mayflower that were Adventist movement. I consider myself an Agonistic since Science cannot answer certain things w/o a "faith" in their theory. But some things from the old testament seems so cruel that whoever the "father" may be I would not want to follow him as a God ever. it isn't freewill if the answer is do as i say or die. too many human sacrifices for a God of love for me to want to love and he makes more mistakes than any all knowing if the God of Israel is the same God as Jesus father. I can't follow teachings that the Adventist seem to have correct as a Twinity I & the father are as one in all teachings, the holy spirit would seem to just be an active force. I have studied and the Romans were the ones in charge so they decided how to torture and it isn't beyond their capabilities to have the charged carry a cross bar which are lifted up to a "stake" which has a notch cut into it so that when several men are lifting push poles they can do so without much effort. As JT pointed out i recall the JW's that studied with me to read several chapters prior and past to see context. But if you did so against their teachings you were being an apostate. I recall being called out when I figured something that the Travelling overseer looked me dead in the eyes telling the audience why you are not to go ahead of the faithful and discreet slave. That was when i had the elder stop coming to my house as this was NOT inspired by God but told to the overseer something I shared and tried to pretend it was coming from God, but it angered me not humbled me. i also asked a group of brothers working my huge neighborhood to see what the WT & Awake may have been saying about the world events, when an elder began asking me if I thought holy spirit had directed him to me. i said no their were a group of brothers a month or so ago prior working and I simply stopped them and asked for the newest magazines, they described my unique truck and you came driving looking for my vehicle and here you are. He kind of had the look of shock as i was never superstitious.

@Eternity With Christ I was once in this cult and believe me I never had hate in my heart for my family I thought I was trying to save their life by telling them what I thought was the truth. OK so It was my choice to go into this religion but I always had good intentions. I can see Clearly now! suggest you all get facts, stop being gullible and make you views based on facts and not hearsay. How do you know these men are not disgruntled or angry former members who were disfellowshipped because they struggled to live according to Bible principles and God’s standards. @@cd3881 I can see Clearly now has got his facts right. It is true the GB act as mediator between God and the congregation of JW's. Jesus is cast out as their mediator it's only to the anointed he apparently has a direct relationship with. Go to JW online library and in the word search type in 'mediator'. It's all there in black and white.

That’s like some people now say that our sun is going to run out of fuel in another 5 billion years. Why would anyone alive now care about that? Same with that question. They were asking about what they could expect to see in their lifetime. The Watchtower has said that they had a habit of thinking that everything in the Bible had two fulfillments, one in ancient times, and one in our day, and they were going to stop doing that. This is another scripture that they need to stop saying has a fulfillment for us. And if you think the WTBS is “The Truth”, how do you explain their changing so many doctrines, teachings, and viewpoints over the last 140 years? Truth does not need to be changed. Many of their changes were made just because the passing of so much time proved that what they were saying was false. “Millions now living (in 1920) will never die”, “The generation that saw the events of 1914 will still be alive to see the conclusion of this system of things.” (They’re trying to buy some more time with that ridiculous “overlapping generation” nonsense that NO Jehovah’s Witness can honestly say they believe.) The Bible foretold that “God would let a deluding influence come upon them, so that they would go on believing the lie...” Sadly, many Witnesses go on believing all the lies and false stories that the Watchtower continues to pass off as “truth”. Some use their critical thinking and see that so many of their doctrines don’t add up, their eyes are opened, and they come to really see the truth about “the Truth.” Hopefully, you will have this awakening.
