No, Riot goes far beyond being a huge jerk. He kidnapped Jem and forged a postcard to her bandmates claiming that she ran off to be with him. He then withheld the only means of escape from Jem, meaning she'd be stuck with him forever. Which makes him a coercive rapist and kidnapper. No, we don't "gotta love Riot." He's scum.
I love the way at the end Pizzazz is like "Riot is dancing with me!!! ♥" and I'm just thinking, "Can you imagine how Pizzazz would react if she knew he was fantasizing about Jem while dancing with Pizzazz?" Needless to say Pizzazz would go into a blind rage and throw an epic tantrum.
Man, Riot fell in love with this girl from first sight. I think it is beautiful. This video image is beautiful. I don't mind it at all. Besides, it serves Rio right. Jerrica can have some else interested in her too even if its under another identity. Jerrica had a lot going on at this time. Managing a houseful of young girls, running father's company, contending against The Misfits, going toe to toe with Eric, Managing her singing group while singing lead, her boyfriend Rio then falling for Riot. Jerrica Benton deserves a medal.
JhomasE Yes she deserves a medal. But Riot manages to run half a company , and manages its own signing group. And unlike Jerrica Riot doesn't have Sinergy or a good father to help him. So Jerrica deserves a godlen medal but riot deserves a silver medal.
Your point of view is welcome for sure. Props to riot for running his company. Now, I'm going to break it down for you my reasons regarding Jerrica as she deserves a gold medal for sure: Riot did not have people trying to sabotage him almost every episode and contending with his fathers colleague who was evil. He did not deal with a cheating boyfriend who was jealous, quick tempered and possessive. He Also didn't take on the responsibility of running a foster home for orphans then having to assume another identity to sing and become a rock star. When Riot was leave that island in that canoe, Brother man made his female singers paddle with his arrogant self. He just struck me as someone who didn't work hard but self entitled and extremely arrogant. However, pizzazz was even worse. I welcomed Riot with open arms when he became competition for Rio, though.
No problem : Riot is not my favorite character in this show and I wouldn't trust him if I knew him , I think he is like Janus and has two faces. And I have always liked in most part Jerrica Benton's character. I'm going to act facts too. You're right about the foster girls .But Rio is Jerrica's problem , she can quit when she wants and have another boyfriend. Riot was abused and was more or less coerced in the army by the man who pretended to be his father. And of course he went to a military prison after that. Then his own father repudiated him and he had to began its musician's career in extreme poverty in the street in Germany (not his country). Then he became a famous rockstar by himself and he worked very very hard to do it (you didn't see the episod Riot's Hope?). I was really impressionated by the Stingers' persevrance. If Jerrica was at Riot's place would she have succeeded this career path alone without Sinergy ? I have serious doubts about it . But yes you can't compare it exactly , they are not playing the same game :Riot has the advantage of beeing a (powerful-minded) man , and he can control a big jerk like Raymond .And I don't think a coward like Eric Raymond (or the Misfits) will ever try to kill him , because he knows too well how Riot would react. Yes Riot forced his females bandmates to raw I didn't like it ,but that wasn't a great harm (and perhaps he wanted to retaliate against Minx because she braught Rio in this island first ). But that was an exception : The Stingers are very united (and nevertheless are not from the same family unlike the Holograms) and Riot takes great care of its bandmates generally , there is no dispute at all in this band unlike the Holograms (Jerrica/Jem , Aja versus Kimber ). In episods Hollywood Jem one and two , there was no Eric Raymond , Misfits and Stingers .But there was frequent disputes between Rio , Jerrica and Kimber . And Jerrica has her defaults , she can be egoist too (less than Riot of course ,ask Kimber in Band's Break up and Father's day episods) and in the episods Stingers hit towns Jerrica said Jem would like to sign in Starlight Music (She wanted to use the fact that Rio loved Jem to gain financial interests). Yes , Riot is egoist and arrogant but that can be explained in part by the fact that unlike Jerrica , he didn't have the chance to have a lovely family with three sisters (who helped her a lot ) and a father who did well his job of father and gave her half of Starlight Music ,Sinergy and who encouraged his girls to become musicians.Riot became musician by his own will .
I loved that "riots hope" episode. I saw it back in 1988 when I was 11 years old. It shed some light on Riots character. It's one of my favorite shows. I also loved how Jerrica (as Jem) began fancying him in this episode. Christy Marx or whoever wrote that episode was on point. It allowed us to give a little sympathy towards him. My favorite quote " I'm riots father!" Then the bouncer says "oh yeah? I'm Madonna's brother!" That cracked me up. Lol. You did bring up good points so I can receive what you are saying.
The forgot the part at the end where Riot realizes he's not dancing with Jem, pushes Pizzazz away and says, "I must meet her." and She squeaks, "Riot?!"
I don't know, I still think that the main thing driving Riot's attraction to Jem is narcissism; he sees her as the perfect girl to match his perfect man. But it is nice to see someone upstage Rio once in a while; he gets on my nerves ;)
JhomasE He's just so whiny and petulant, for no reason. Don't get me wrong, he is cute, but still. I never liked the way that he drove Jerrca on those guilt trips.
+TheSapphireEmpress96 Narcissists think only of themselves when he's demonstrated quite a few times that he cares about her being happy. When they are by the harp and he kisses her she pushes him away and tells him she thought they were going to discuss the deal, he says incredibly eagerly that he'll phone Jerrica right away if it will make her happy, him asking Jerrica specifically what Jem likes and what would make her happy. His attempts to get her away from Rio was because he felt he wasn't right for her and chasing a dead dream as technically he is Jerrica's boyfriend and not hers. He is incredibly arrogant but I wouldn't go so far as to say he is a narcissist.
+TheSapphireEmpress96 AGREED! Riot liked Jem for the same reasons the captain of the football team likes the head cheerleader. She's popular, every girl wants to be her and every guy wants to be WITH her. His attraction to Jem is entirely superficial and is more about him and his ego than it is about her. This is evidenced by the fact that he has no interest in Jerrica when she isn't being Jem (i.e. NOT surrounded by glitz and glamour). I hate Rio, but at least he genuinely likes Jerrica/Jem as a person. Remember that episode when they were in Rome? Even when she turned into a different person, he STILL liked her. And when he got into a fight with Riot, he said that Jerrica was twice the woman Jem was. Riot would never give Jerrica/Jem that kind of acceptance.
Riot is so creepy, and he demands perfection. I don't think that he ever really liked Jem for who she is, and he never respected her boundaries. But he sure is hilarious to watch, and his backstory is insane
Thanks so much for the uploads from this show. Sometimes you just want to hear the songs (the series is AWESOME), and you've provided the best quality for these clips.
Personally, I think Jem can do a lot better than Rio and Riot. Was there a third choice for a boyfriend? The other 2 act like big babies when Jem pays attention to either one or the other. Rio's insecure and Riot is an extremely conceited so and so.
