No - this movie flopped because people didn’t take Megan Fox seriously and the marketing for this movie was trash. After seeing her in transformers and on so many magazine covers - people were sick of her and annoyed by her. Men weren’t interested in the movie because it wasn’t advertised as there being anything in here they would like. The trailer and it staring both Megan and Amanda Seyfried would leave men to believe it to be some “stupid high school chick movie” with a twist. Which is why the kiss between the 2 of them was heavily publicized and also in the trailer- to try to bait men. This movie back then wasn’t necessarily seen as a commentary or a satire, it was just seen as a bad film with bad dialogue. It is a smart movie in ways - but Mean Girls IS a much smarter movie with way way way better dialogue. At least Mean Girls dialogue is super quotable and has aged well. Things like “Cheese and fries!” Or “it smells like Chinese food in here have you 2 been fucking??” Is VERY cringey and hasn’t aged well at all. The reason this movie is considered underrated now is because people are starting to see what they were going for when it was made.

This movie has got nothing to do with "women who embrace their sexuality are demonised". It's about female relationships and how toxic they can be. It's also about the insecurities girls can have if their best friend is incredibly beautiful and the sexual tension between girls. The director herself explains this. The succubus part is just a backdrop; the entire movie is about Jennifer and Needy's relationship, how Jennifer wants to be with Needy but Needy wants to be with Chip which is why Jennifer dislikes him; she's essentially fighting for Needy's attention and why she "likes" the guys that Needy likes.

I do think it's related to how women's worth is tied to her sexuality or lack thereof. And that also, ironically, bled into the reception of the movie.

I honestly found it unnerving, to say the least, how he laughed throughout the whole scene of the band sacrificing Jennifer. That scene isn’t supposed to be funny. It’s supposed to show how cruel the band members are, how they don’t care at all about a young girl begging for her life to be spared. For me that scene is extremely hard to watch because I always think about all the women in the world who have been hurt and murdered by men who typically have a physical advantage. And how often men make jokes about the r*pe and killing of women. They think it is funny because it most likely will not happen to them. Male privilege at its finest.

I felt similar, but thought that fps switch was a smart choice. It was a way of conveying the terror of her experience-that break in filming style is an intentional disruption to get across a sense of the horror from a victim’s perspective. I think the marketing (seemingly aimed at guys) really did her dirty. Plus in Transformers Megan Fox was essentially JUST there to be eye-candy right? So when it's marketed to guys who only know her as eye candy, it's not hard to figure out just how skewed the expectations were. Meanwhile Juno was kind of advertised as what it was. Didn't find either movie to be particularly good but I figured I just wasn't the target demographic.

I like Juno and this (Jennifer's Body) but I do prefer Juno more in terms of dialogue it was easier for me to understand. Some of the lines in this I had to literally pause the film to think about what they meant lol Also, I had and still have the biggest crush on Juno's actor, Elliot Page so I've definitely rewatched it more. I made my family see Juno in theaters without telling them what it was about 🤣 I've had my dad start watching Umbrella Academy with me recently and he was like wasn't that the pregnant kid? Now when he sees Vanya (Elliot's character in season 1) kiss another character he literally says hopefully they don't get pregnant again.

He didn't even laugh along and said he hated how they were singing. Also, it's a fictional scene so it's unfair to judge judge as though he's watching a real assault. Anyone would react differently to the real thing.

I think it's more because Jennifer is very insecure and within her friendship with Needy. Jennifer bullies Needy to feel better about herself. And so in a way she's jealous of Needy.

Exactly and this movie really proves that she’s a good actress. I think she should’ve done more horror stuff tbh because this movie really shows that it’s what she does best. Transformers literally was the wrong movie for her to be in. But this...this is her thing! This is what she should be best at. I hope she comes back to the industry soon to do more horror

11 it’s about relationships and friendships between women/girls and how toxic and how unhealthily codependent they can be from what I understand. It’s a film by women for women essentially, so the fact that this guy’s main focus in every scene was the other men is funny to me, and how he didn’t seem to understand (or maybe rather care to understand) the dynamic between Needy and Jennifer. He was too busy sexualizing Jennifer, and joking about fetishizing lesbians (which is gross af and not funny ever - signed a wlw who has to deal with that).
