I don't think anyone mention it but the reason Ben Affleck was chosen was because David Fincher saw a picture of him smiling (like when they are taking pics in front of the missing poster) and thought the same thing as Dylan. The guy has that creepy aura
He also was inspired by Scott Peterson who was convicted of killing his wife Laci. They are really similar and the two stories are really similar (minus the plot twist lol)
Honestly, Idk if knowing about your family/spouse/friend's blood type is a meter about how close you are to that person, I know most of my family blood type but I forgot or mixed them all the time =v like come on its human brain if you don't write it down, it not gonna stick lol
i hate how people always talk about how beautiful a girl was after she is murdered, kidnapped etc. to gain sympathy (or saying "oh no she was so beautiful why did she kill herself") like being beautiful makes someone a better person or more worthy
Her pretty white rich girl privilege is actually a huge part of this storyline. If she weren‘t in that position there is no way her disappearance would have been that big of a deal
It's always said by families of having seen someone grow up to get murdered or being the murderer. "He was always so kind and loving, I don't know how this happened" (I watch true crime)
they did this with a woman who died while working in italy. the media was like 'how could this happen to such a young beautiful woman and mother?? 😭" it was disgusting
Yes when I watched it I saw it was "based on the novel by gillian flynn" and then right after "screenplay by gillian flynn" Thats when I thought this is gonna be good I never read the novel btw, probably should've read it
Ben Affleck is either an EXTREMELY good actor, or he's actually a creep and this role was MADE for him because I was creeped out by him from the start.
This is like the foundation that The Afterparty is built on. Everyone is telling their own story of the day before the murder and you have to find out which one is unreliable and lying
man I dont have any friends either...... Like I dont talk to people everyday except for my cousin and only for games........ people would have a difficult time finding me and pro is that I never leave the house so I wont get kidnapped. Con is, no one would know if I die
“She’s bright, beautiful and kind” Dylan: how does this help? How does this help anybody? Me, having watched many many seasons of Criminal Minds: ACTUALLY when someone’s missing, you want the unsub to hear these things as they try to dehumanize the person, for the slight chance that they’ll regret what they’re doing when being reminded of who this person is
Actually the whole point of the press conference and saying she was ‘kind’ and ‘considerate’ etc. is so if the person who took her is watching, it humanises her and the more they know about her, the less likely they are to harm her.
@@KillerQueenDopamine …but it’s actual criminology? It’s a main reason behind real conferences and interviews having spiels about the victim’s personality. Unless you’re dealing with someone incapable of *any* empathy, making an emotional connection with your kidnapper is the safest and smartest move you can make, statistically speaking, as many cases of the victim being unharmed and released were a result of them forming a bond with the kidnapper.
One of those rare moments when the movie did perfect justice to the book. I might have to say that Rosamund Pike's acting made the movie version better. Crazy what a good casting can do.
@@Kasia120612 Definitely a great read !! I personally discovered the book after watching the movie. Even still, I felt the suspense and curiosity like I would reading a book for the first time. Give it a try !! (:
Not Dylan calling out Ben's character for smiling at the press conference of his missing wife, as if his hero Flynn Rider wouldn't do the exact same thing😂😂
I just wish the ending is Amy saying "happy anniversary" because her whole missing and putting suspicion on Affleck spiel is just another of their anniversary treasure hunt, only this time she went deep.
@freak bitch he’s a youtuber....making a youtube video... he’s not gonna show every single part of the movie. There’s a lot of interesting scenes he left out cos he’s making a video...there is no misogyny about editing a video and taking out scenes. He could’ve been picking his nose or something during the scene and took it out for that reason....
@@drei_cee Nah he's said misogynistic things before. Like his take on feminism in one of his commentaries. I think it's mostly just ignorance on his part. He probs doesn't wanna get called out for it again so he left the monologue out of this video.
@@jordanlevitt1638 can you give examples of that? the only one i can think of is that endgame video, where he got a lot of backlash for commenting on that one scene. as a woman and feminist myself, i actually found myself agreeing with him, about how marvel likes to disregard female characters and ONLY ever show them when they want woke points from the audience. every male character was properly written and developed, while the female cast was just put together hapazardly in a scene, like "here are your female superheros, you had your moment, now shut up and watch the men do all the stuff". i'm not aware of anything else, so i'd like to know if he legit said something bad.
Gillian Flynn stuck around to do the screenplay, and I think it was the right choice - after all, she knows Nick and Amy best, of course she would know how to adapt them for the screen. Ugh, Amy is one of my favorite villains, she just makes my hair stand on end, especially when she plots to frame Desi. Even knowing that she's faking it, seeing her "scream" for help is still gut-wrenching.
Quick note: when someone gets kidnapped or something when there’s a press conference they ask parents or whoever is there to say nice things about the victim so it humanizes them to their kidnapper. It’s not very likely to work but it’s still increases the chances of them being found or returned to their family
I honestly feel like he’s liked most of the movies he’s made a commentary on. Most of the ones he thought he would hate he ended up liking, like A Cinderella Story and She’s The Man lol
Then he misdirected us with netflix "Italy" & blue tongue, while actually promoting audible! As he did on new year, saying he wants to post 2 videos per week, while he is now almost posting 1 in 2 weeks.
9:05: About the parents describing Amy in a good way during the press conference: I believe investigators encourage this so that in case the perpetrator is watching, they might be able to sway them or guilting them into either returning the victim, surrendering, or at least make a mistake. Even if it's not the perpetrator directly, the accomplice or a potential witness could be swayed into giving information by humanizing the victim.
"When I think of my wife, I always think of her head. “What are you thinking? How are you feeling? Who are you? What have we done to each other?" This movie is haunting. 10/10.
My boyfriend in college once tried to help me feel better on a bad day by taking me to the movies, and when we got there we decided to see whatever show was playing next. Neither of us knew anything about this movie aside from the critical acclaim it was receiving and that the director was David Fincher, so we were down. I have to say going into this blind has inspired me to do that more often, because the halfway switch was seriously *amazing* (wink)
Not everything in Amy’s journal is a lie. @ the end of the movie when Nick gets angry enough he throws Amy up to the door, HARD. Sure, he was pushed to the limit when he reacted that way…But he is quite capable of hitting Amy. The book gives you a much better idea of what a user Nick was, but basically he drained all of her money, cheated, and most likely also hit her because he did have a temper. Now, none of that means that Amy still isn’t a sociopath. Other incidents in her life support that she is definitely a manipulative and narcissistic person… but Nick was not some innocent, dumb schmuck. He was a POS. Amy has other victims I feel sorry for, not so much him.
I don't know about the book, but in the movie he is one thousand percent justified in shoving Amy against the door. This is a woman he hates, who when he tried to break up with her peacefully resorted to *staging her own murder by him* - intent to ruin him and send him to prison for life, maybe even give him the death penalty - who only relented because he publicly begged her to do so and bowed to her control, and in 'returning' to him framed and murdered *another* innocent man who will now always be known as a kidnapping rapist. This woman then forced herself back into his life, took absolute control, and while he is *still trying to escape from her* she reveals she's gotten herself pregnant with his baby without his consent. She is a rapist and a murderer, and she is effectively holding him hostage. He would be justified in way more than angrily shoving her against the wall once.
@@Thedarkbunnyrabbit the book explains that Nick doesn't love Amy but stays because he can't imagine life without her. So ya, her other victims are way more sympathetic than Nick - Nick is a schmuck.
@@realSimoneCherie That's how it be sometimes. The book better communicated his flaws. It's much like Secret Smile. The books make it obvious Brendan is gaslighting everyone and killing people because he's crazy, while the adaption (I forget if it's a miniseries or a movie) fails to properly convey that and you're left to wonder if he really is this crazy killer or if he's an unpleasant man that the protagonist has become absolutely fixated on and unfairly framed for murder (she frames him either way, but one is justified and the other isn't)
This movie was shot in a small town about an hour away from me, I remember when the local news was losing their mind over it... They don't see too many famous people come around so it was a big deal... It was such a big deal that they sold this book everywhere in the town when it was being filmed...
I actually love the, I want to crack open your skull thing. It is an extension of cute aggression. When you adore something or someone so much you want to pull them apart and make them a part of yourself. It also showcases the thin line between love and hate and how similar emotions at their most intense can feel.
"Across all of youtube, all of the millions of videos that are uploaded, ours was trending." I love how Dylan says ours instead of mine. At this point we're just one big family and I love it
I’d love to see Dylan do an escape room or a murder mystery case file game or something. Watching him get so exited as he slowly pieces this story together is adorable.
I believe its Loosely based off the Scott Peterson (I don’t know if that’s his last name but it’s something like that) case. His wife who was 8 months pregnant went missing while “he was fishing”and the body turned up near where he would go fishing. He was also having an affair. This was back in 2002. I believe he’s been convicted of killing her
@@jennagouvin5516 I just read the book and actually wondered about this since the stories are similar, but the author has denied that she based the story on the Laci Peterson case specifically
i’m at 9:42. my prediction is- her parents kidnapped her and are holding her hostage to have something to write another book about with the amazing amy character. will update. i was, extremely wrong. thank you for reading.
Never thought such a thing, your prediction is very impressive but yeah completely wrong lmao since the day she disappeared I knew that Amy was faking it because it was obvious
This movie came out right before (about a year) when Ben was banging his nanny. And I believe I watched this in 2015/2016 when Netflix had it and all I could think of was how Ben played this role TOOOOOOOOOOOO GOOD. This is the Ben I picture when ppl talk about him lmao
foreal! I thought we had another “ides of March” situation on our hands but I think we’re good now that Dylan has finally acknowledged him and he is still alive. 🥸
You expected him to relate? This concept sounds alien to him because he doesn't relate to this idea and most men don't relate to this because they've not really enforced it.
the way dylans knowledge of film is so extensive he understands the most subtle of details and can predict what most wouldnt be able to, yet he is able to appreciate a good film is what makes this the best movie commentary channel.
On the press conference nick spoke on the past tense “Amy was...” that is a huge no no in criminal defense! Shows that you already know that she died Thanks for the likes everyone! Love from Lisbon!
@@iriswaldenburger2315 I think it's cause if the person is missing you don't know it the person is actually dead or not so you use the present tense because you should be hoping that the person is still alive. If you use the past tense, it's like implying they're already dead or that you believe they're dead.
Also can we take a moment to appreciate how good this movie "looks"? The cinematography is beautiful and the lighting is exquisite. David Fincher never disappoints when it comes to this stuff.
Yes! And the attention to detail! Just look at how Amy looks up at him at the beginning of the movie, eye brows raised, seemingly innocent and unsure. Fast forward to the ending, same exact shot, only this time when she looks up at him at him, Her eyes look into his confidently and she's sporting a ever so slight smirk. Excellent cinematography ..and acting!
Interview: "People call you a perfectionist. What do you think about that?" Fincher: "I think people, calling others perfectionists, are just lazy." THANK YOU DAVID ! And also, that bright red "STOP" right above the red button in the elevator. Like: Stop this drive into hell, when you still can.
this movie was so good, i've rewatched it several times and nothing will get me over how well done it is, i love a movie where even when i think i know where it's going it can still surprise and entertain me.
Dylan* faking an Italian accent* "I'm italian" *Do the most cliché Italian gesture * Me, an Italian: "congratulations, you exceed the text, you're Italian now! Remember, with great power comes great responsibility"
The end scene shows he's sleeping with her again-and is comfortable enough to do that now-also I heard that the author will write a sequel from the POV of their kid, 10 years after everything happened
The screenplay is so brilliant bc David Fincher wanted it written by Gillian Flynn, the author of the book, and I think both worked really well together, it's a really captivating film 👌🏼
For sure they need to make a Gone Girl 2 ... where he wishes up and they try to off each other to keep the kid.... but plot twist the kid is a psychopath like the mum.
Man I love watching Dylan so much. There's just something about the over-the-top but somehow self-deprecating arrogance and pure dumbassery of this man that just fills me with unending joy
I love how you worded it and completely agree. Also find the audience-Dylan relation endearing, everyone's used to his dumbassery and poking fun at him but they're also sweet and pretty chill. It's a good combo.
yeah it's the same with owen wilson, adam sandler, jim carrey, robin williams, jonah hill, eddie murphy, mo'nique, steve carrell, etc. i feel like people don't understand how much acting talent it takes to actually be funny. most of them have the ingenuity to do serious stuff, too
this is one of the example on how to write characters. they're not caricatures. they act like real people and what desperate people could do if they're psychopaths.
