Jigsaw Puzzle Table Alternative. For Christmas this year, I made a puzzle easel for my Mother-in-law. The Puzzle Easel is a convenient way to do your jigsaw puzzles, it will take some of the strain off your neck and back by reducing the amount of time spent leaning over the puzzle. When you need some extra space and the puzzle is not done, you can cover it up and tuck it out of the way.

Instead of 3d printing simple trays, you can save a lot of time by just getting them from a dollar store or Walmart. Unless you were fitting them exactly.

I have a 7 year old who LOVES puzzles and is amazing at them, but we live in an RV. I've been searching for a DIY "puzzle saver" for lack of a better word that can be stored behind our couch. This is perfect!! I don't have all the fancy tools, so do you have any tips for a novice. I'm going to attempt to make this with a friend.

Unfortunately I don't have any measurements for this project. If I were to build another, I would change the angle of the supports, this one works, but it's not quite right.

What kind of glue did you use to lay the felt? Where did you get the felt?
@LogHouseFarm
@LogHouseFarm 10 месяцев назад
I used a basic white glue for the felt, sort of like what kids use in school... But I would not use it again, I would use a super glue, something that does not go on so thick. The felt should be avayat just about any fabric store.

Can someone please tell me why puzzle boards have to be so darn heavy? 😮‍💨 Isn't there another type of material these boards can be made out of? 🫤 Cedar or corkboard.

I made this one from my head so I don't really have any measurements or a cut list, but maybe I can recall the basics. The oak was 1 single board - 1x6 8ft long. About half a sheet of 1/16th inch plywood - I use Bintangor. Some peg board, about 36"x24" The interior supports are just some scrap pine, maybe 1 board about the same size as the oak... Or a little smaller. A bit of felt (24"x36") 2 hinges 1 clasp A small pile of picture frame holders. And a handle... I think that it. I may have to try to out together some plans for this, a few people have asked for more details.

Still cannot store the “puzzle easel” vertically when covered. At least not for puzzles in progress. Nice project tho
@LogHouseFarm
@LogHouseFarm 3 года назад
I tested it with a puzzle inside, the lid holds pretty tight and the puzzle stayed put - but I can see how it could easily move around if jostled too much - It would be better to keep it flat if you have to move your puzzle - thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment.

@theyliveyousleep8965
@theyliveyousleep8965 3 года назад
@@LogHouseFarm yeah shipping can be a hassle. But there’s nothing quite like this out there. Simple boards are $70-90. Easel style are $100-150 without the storage. People are looking for puzzle/art boards now that they are staying home more often.

You were getting the burn marks on the oak for 2 reasons that I can see -- you weren't feeding the board through consistently, which allowed the blade to burn the side due to friction heat build up... however this should be so bad if you were using a ripping blade (fewer teeth) instead of a fine crosscutting blade (more teeth) (the second reason). When ripping (long cuts WITH the grain), it's best to use a dedicated ripping blade, and when cross cuts (against the grain) like you were doing with your crosscut sled, you should use a crosscutting blade. Regardless, this turned out great! Thanks for sharing with us!
@LogHouseFarm
@LogHouseFarm Год назад
Thanks for the tips, I believe you are correct. The blade used was a hybrid that does an okay job of both but not a very good job at either. Feeding the board in at a steady pace is a struggle with such a long board, something for me to work on improving

I also think your riving knife is not perfectly in line with your saw blade. It looks that the riving knife has an offset to the left and pulls the material off your fence.
@LogHouseFarm
@LogHouseFarm Год назад
@@universalgenie good eye, it does occasionally catch a little on a peice as it feeds in. I have attemyto adjust it before, and it improves a bit, but still needs work. Thanks for commenting
@universalgenie
@universalgenie Год назад
@@LogHouseFarm I hope you will get it perfectly aligned. I had the same problem with my DeWalt 7492 out if the box. I glued a thin piece of metal on one side of the riving knife to correct that and get it in the middle of the saw blade.
