I'll say, on behalf of Marc Lowrance (who, admittedly started out REaaally dry and infifferenct sounding--and was always a very understated announcer): he did get better, especially when things would get out of hand and he'd do his righteous indignation thing. Love the way Jim tells a story! Back in the day I was there! I live in Dallas, and I can tell u this,......... Between late 83 and 86 If you lived ANYWHERE IN THE DFW AREA, even if you didn't like Wrestling, YOU KNEW WHO THE VON ERICHS WERE!!! THEY WERE BIGGER THAN THE "DALLAS COWBOYS" AT THAT TIME!!!!💯 I remember going to the sportatorium on a lot of Friday night's watching Jim, Bobby, and Dennis beating up on the "The Fantastics" I'm gonna get Jim cornette's book!! As a Wrestling fan I was stoked that Jim Cornette and the Midnight Express WERE IN WCCW!! I was watching them on TV when they were in Mid South, and I was glad they were here for the little time they were!! It totally sucks that they didn't put them up against Kerry and Kevin! That would've been fun to watch!! 💯

Yeah, rub it in why don't you! I grew up in New York, so all I ever got was WWF television. Back in the 80's, the WWF pretended that they were the only wrestling promotion in the country, and if you were a niave young kid like myself, then you actually believed them! When main event talent came in from other promotions, guys like Harley Race and Kerry Von Eric, Vince would give them a new name like "King" Harley Race and the Texas Tornado! They were never figured into the main event either, so they bounced around, fighting mid-card guys, but never actually challenged for the WWF championship. That's cause Vince and Hogan didn't want to mess with their formula of having Hogan fight a monster heel in the main event of a pay-per-view! As bad as it was to give these established stars from other territories, new names and gimmicks; and as bad as it was for the WWF to NEVER use any of the stars from other territories in a main event match for the WWF championship, it still wasn't the worst thing that they'd do to them! The worst thing they did to the boys like Kerry when they came to the WWF was to never mention any of their accomplishments from the other territories! They would introduce the wrestlers like they were a big deal, they'd say, "Oh my God, that's Kerry Von Eric, the Texas Tornado!" But then they'd never follow that up with any of the wrestlers accolades so to fans like me who didn't even know about other wrestling territories, they were just another mid-card guy, and not meant to be taken seriously. I think that's the worst thing the WWF did to the stars of other promotions whenever they came to the WWF. That's why I'm jealous of the people who grew up in other states and who got to know about all of the territories and all of the different stars in those territories. When guys came in from other territories they were treated with respect, and their accomplishments from all of the different places that they worked were mentioned to show the fans who might not know that this new wrestler who just came into the territory is a big deal. It was just such a better way of doing things than Vince's way. Vince pretended like he was the only wrestling promotion in the country and pretended like none of the other territories even existed!

Mark Lowrence was a better commentator than Jim gives him credit for. At least Mark knew the names of wrestling moves and he did get exited about things at the right times. The other guy, Bill Mercer, didn't know the names of half the wrestling moves and tended to call everything a bodyslam (neckbreakers, backdrops, etc).

The best JEC story in WORLD CLASS was when he got in an argument with FRITZ and FRITZ kinda yelled a little to loud and the locker room heard the ARGUMENT. So what does James E CORNETTE do. Waits for FRITZ TO LEAVE HIS OFFICE. THEN TAKES WHAT CAN ONLY BE EXPLAINED AS A 5* POWERDUMP IN FRITZ'S PRIVATE BATHROOM. BEST PART FRITZ WAS GONNA BE GONE FOR 2-3 DAYS. CORNETTE AND HIS TEAM WAS LEAVING THAT NIGHT TO GO BACK TO CROCKETT. SO CORNETTE DOESNT FLUSH. HE LETS HIS POWER DUMP SIT THERE - NOW ITS SUMMERTIME IN TEXAS ITS HOT. CORNETTE SEALS ALL THE WINDOWS AND TURNS ON A FAN. HE THEN LOCKS THE DOOR. AND RIDES OFF IN THE HOT TEXAS NIGHT. FRITZ COMES IN 2 DAYS LATER AND IS LIVID.

NOTE Texas Stadium, the former (REAL) home of my beloved "America's Team" The Dallas Cowboys did not open until November 1971. The Cowboys played in the Cotton Bowl and the Texas Stadium in 1971 (first Super Bowl victory season). So when Corny says Texas Stadium and the late 60's that is incorrect. They must have wrestled in the Cotton Bowl in the late 60's, which is CRAZY because that place could sit 90,000.

If you watch the WCCW documentary you can hear them talk about all the things that the production team brought into wrestling that never had been done before.

While other wrestlers were making low-level stripper money at best, the Von Erichs were doing very well, and raked in most of the money that WCCW was accruing. They also routinely missed appearances at some of the outposts Cornette mentions, whether it was due to their respective drug addictions or just lack of motivation. I would guess that the Von Erich family was more or less satisfied with how things were going, at least until their near-bankruptcy when they brought in Jerry Jarrett to turn things around.

Watts sending the midnight express to Dallas wouldn't be the last time watts screwed Crockett. The sale of uwf to Crockett was a major league screwing

Yep. So basically, Crockett got screwed by Watts twice. The purchase of the UWF, and Watts wanting the Midnight Express to go to World Class.

Bummer. I was waiting for Corny to mention my hometown of Enid, OK. They did a house show there on May 21, 1985 (I looked up the date) during the WCCW run. Corny yelled some crazy racist shit to a little black girl before the matches started (obviously, she was a plant and he did it to get heel heat. It worked lol). Loved to hate him back in the day. Just love him now.

What's the best thing to do with an occasionally grumpy old man like Cornette? Pump him for stories from his time. He'll cheer right up, you'll hear some amazing stuff, everyone will get a laugh, and no one has to get grumpy about how things are now. Corny's insufferable when he's going on about modern-day wrestling, but he's A-FREAK-A-MAZING when he's keeping the history alive.

Al Snow does a great one on WWE. Very real, not the rosy picture everyone envisions. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A8tCwiOWS2U.html

When I saw Silo Sam I thought the same thing as Jim, I'm like that guy is fat and out of shape. Then I heard Jim talk about him and I realize I was right he was a bum. He was in AWA for awhile too.

Corny's spot on about Marc Lowrance. If Lowrance and Backlund ever got together....they;d put everybody to sleep. Lowrance was that bad.

I liked the dignity and professionalism he brought. Nowdays, most announcers just sound to me like a couple of screaming 12-year-olds who just drank a two-liter of Mountain Dew. But Lowrance treated wrestling with a somber formality that conveyed authenticity and importance. He may not have been the BEST ringside announcer, but he was far from the worst, and criminally underrated.

It would be kool as fuck if Jim was back in the business like he was with Smokey Mountain Wrestling. He should still have his own promotion RIGHT NOW and someone should give him a try. I understand Jim is older now so he might not even be interested in doing something like that. I think Jim should be a bigger deal than he seems to be. Im a 30 yr. old half black and half white man from Milwaukee. When I began looking up wrestling on youtube to look at wrestling which i hadnt seen for years at that point. It like 2010 I started looking up stuff from when I was a kid and I remembered Jim's face. This man has put so many guys in the business that I could argue he was just as influential as Vince McMahon. I don't know if WWE would be in business if it wasn't for him. SO MANY guys who are still wrestling and known as good workers that Jim gave their first break with the WWE. Props to you JIM!!!

Ktve channel 11? Thats CBS brother and its literally an impossibility considering the big 3 (ABC, NBC & CBS) have national commitments for something like 18 hours and the rest is from 2am-6am That's where wccw had their nonexistent syndication show that the midnights were on twice a night every airing lol.

Kerry wrestled Flair in Tulsa? Jesus fucking christ, I was born ten years too late. Tulsa wrestling was basically dead by the time I was old enough to appreciate it.

Now we know why Jim Cornette talks so much. We loves hearing himself. Wow, I didn't know he was such a foul-mouth, but then again, when he was on TV he knew he couldn't get away with using such expletives.
