Jim Cornette Reviews Andrade El Idolo vs. Buddy Matthews on AEW Collision 

Crazy to me how pro wrestling went so far from the fundamentals that fans are shocked to see a regular match without stipulations

Andrade is one of the rare cases of a modern luchador knowing how to work. His matches with Gargano and Drew Mcintyre sold me on him

I knew the match would deliver but holy crap they killed it. It was match of the night in my opinion. Even Charlotte Flair tweeted about AEW Collision saying how Andrade was able to finally get a chance to shine.

I just have a vision of Buddy going backstage and having the roster crowd around him genuinely concerned about his knee. He says "it's fine, guys, I was just selling", to which they all reply "...selling? What's that?"

Buddy's the most underutilized talent in wrestling. Has been for 5 years now

Collision was WAAAAY better than the other two shows, there was GOOD WRESTLING in a wrestler show! Imagine that!

I think it's fair to say everything minus the Wardlow match on Collision was way better than what we get on Dynamite lol

The sign that said “Hey Buddy ain’t it funny how Dommy stole your mommy?” had me on the floor😂

I loved when Buddy injured his knee and Andrade started using the Dragon Screw and then ended the match with Bridged Figure Four. Even if people didn't know that he and Charlotte are married, using a submission that target the knee after the competitor injured it and you've been targeting it just makes sense. The tease that Matthews may have been about to shake Andrade's hand makes me hopeful that they may actually break him away from the HOB after they drop the titles. He may be the one to take the pin in the match and Malakai and Brody attack him for losing.

It's an interesting parallel between Buddy & Andrade/Rhea & Charlotte both delivering great matches. Two legitimate wrestling couples.

I enjoyed this, Mr Rhea Ripley and Mr. Charlotte Flair put on the best match of the show. In all seriousness, Buddy Matthews should be pushed as a singles star. He can do everything Kenny Omega can but is young, better looking, and without the gymnastic or prancing. Andrade has always been good, but we never got to see it in AEW

Buddy Matthews, Malakai Black, and Burger King. Lmao! But yeah I really was wishing they would have left it alone after the finish. Still a damn good match and am really digging Andrade. Ever since he punched Sammy in the head I started liking that dude.

The thing that got my attention was the ring announcer called him Buddy Murphy.

Mr Charlotte vs Mr Rhea. Lots of talent and charisma between the two of them. Shame they're hardly ever presented well enough for them to show it.

My favorite part of the entire show was the lights cutting back on and Andrade still had his hand out to shake buddy’s hand while smiling 😂

It’s nice to see both guys using their wives/girlfriends moves to try to get the win. Besides the moonsault from the apron where you can see Matthews clearly walking into it spot, I loved this match.

CM Punk new show Collision is just awesome. If this is the style, tone and booking the shows got a great future.

Both guys could do with a manager/mouthpiece. That said, both of them are good workers and look the part. They are the kind of guys that you can use as solid workhorses and I mean that as a compliment.

Im wondering who the agents were on this show . Because most of the matches came off more serious and logical and it had a different feel to it . I really dug this show .

Brian wasn’t expecting much from the match?? These are 2 of the best wrestlers in the world. I’m not surprised when Jim says goofy shit, but I expect better out of Brian. Anybody who follows wrestling should know these guys are an excellent match up

Good match but I cannot stand how Buddy loses every single match. He should've beat the snot out of Cassidy for the Intl. title a little while ago and it would've been nice for him to win this match. He can't just be the edgy dark dude who comes out to the ring with a babe and loud metal music and just lose every single match. It's insane.

Andrade and Buddy are both really good in the ring. Limited on the mic, but still good hands to have in the company

If you're in the arena when the "lights go out" there still have ambient lighting in the arena in case of emergencies when the power is killed, so you see everyone they're just a dark grey. Anyways, this is to help explain when you're there, YOU CAN SEE THE HOUSE OF BLACK RUNNING INTO THE RING.

Andrade and Buddy are really talented there is a reason Andrade stopped showing up until Collision because he was booked to look like a crap wrestler

This match was my highlight of the show honestly. Punk's a treat sure, but we expected it. This came outta nowhere and delivered hard.

I enjoy when the lights go out at the end and the fans cheer in anticipation to see what's going to happen. Then, absolutely nothing. Ha.

Such a great match. I loved seeing Andrade as a face for a change, but the House of Blackouts afterbirth was a overdone mess. If they had to do it for future angle reasons, all you needed was like Buddy begrudgingly taking the hand - 1 second blackout - Malachai appearing on the screen - Buddy then rips his hand out of El Idolo's grip and shoulder bumps Andrade on the worked side and walking away - while Andrade has a worried look, holding his shoulder - It's dumb that they use the blackout to run the ring all the time, it loses effect.

Crazy to think how presentation and agenting can change the perception of a wrestler. Great match between two guys that can go. Shame for the after birth after the match. Can't Tony let that shit go and pay the light bill on time?

I loved the match, but I’m kinda over wrestlers injuring themselves on their own moves. MJF is always injuring his knee on a tombstone. Just don’t do the freaking move! Have the injury be due to the other guy moving, or something. Or pick a body part and wear it down. You see that so seldom these days.

yeah i know heyman was high on buddy when he was booking raw for that time. andrade is pretty good. great match and agree get buddy away from this spooky shit. the whole lights out thing is played out its too bad because outside of that black and brody king can both put on a decent match but yeah the gimmick is too much

Good match; I am surprised Cornette liked it just because of the few flips. The odd thing is they are bringing Andrade back in as a face after him being a weird heel before he left. I do not know when they started calling that leglock the Figure-8 because that is what they used to call the Muta-lock. The lights-off run-in did kill the finish, and all it does is set up some oddball alliance with Andrade and who?

Buddy needs a small tweak to his presentation, more sinister. He needs to have a feud over something important (maybe try to get the TNT title to mean something) where he has great matches, but more than just "I can do these moves" and get busted open several times during said feud, yet continue with unrelenting anger and he can earn a moniker during that time. Whether it's breaking away from House of Black and he cuts a promo about "being the one to turn your lights out; permanent" or "it's the end of the movie, so fade to black" or "I ain't your friend, don't call me buddy...insert a new 1st name" or after he bleeds in several matches (for the right purpose for the story, not just because like Moxley) and his name morphs to 'Bloody Matthews' or he becomes AEWs undertaker (not full attire) and becomes "the grave digger" or "the body snatcher" or "soul crusher" or a more original iteration of that idea.

Jim secretly has it out for Buddy since that’s Rheas bf.

This match was great Collison is easily better than Dynamite since that's a circus while Collison is a serious wrestling show glad we have wrestling on Saturday Nights.

This was my favorite match of the night.
