I just can’t fathom how this 8” sub was born in 2002 and has withstood the test of time. JL audio has to be respected. Just like the other 3 founding fathers.
I love your channel and videos bro. But yes JL is a true pioneer, but these days with social media ppl run what they see and speak what they have heard.
What do you consider the three founding fathers? I would say JL Audio, Rockford Fosgate, and Orion Industries. But you also have MTX, Precision Power, & Kicker. Although Precision Power did kind of fall off there
Had some 10 w6v2's in ported sq box for my 2nd system ever back when they were $450 per. Even had em at 2 ohm on a class ab fosgate power series 1500.2 must say they got down just like everything else but lasted longer taking more abuse, very reliable minus the foam surrounds not lasting. SQL at its finest if you ask me
I built my W7 into a 18"..That dumb aluminum ring broke on my W7 13.5 and I could not justify a logical reason to pay 200 bucks for a thin piece of aluminum..Had a skar EVL18 basket already so took the JL tore it down bolted the skar EVL18 basket to the JL motor and got a carbon fiber cone on a mega roll surround and a carbon fiber dust cap..There's videos on my channel..
Hey MB, love these drivers, when I first got started off in car audio I accidentally traded my way into a JL w7 10" in the original HO box (red inner). I think I ended up 50$ into that setup. All I had to do was put a new surround on the thing. People thing when they see a crumbling surround the whole thing is toast. Lmao. NOW... Onto why I am really here. Amongst JL in the upper echelon of SQ and accessability... Is Peerless by Tymphany... I have been obsessed with their STW-350F 15" driver for the last few years. Its got an almost 8" freaking coil.... And fun fact, they are the ones who OEM for the SVS PB16 Ultra. Taking the STW350F and simply requesting another inch in diameter... Ive been triyng to get my hands on one for years, I actually ordered one from PE and it mysteriously disappeared in transit, and I was never refunded nor shipped a replacement... Not that I could do anything with it anyway right now... Few weeks ago my shop and home went up in flames, took everything I owned along with my lifes work with it... So no doing anything at all for me for a while except... Trying to keep ahold of what little sanity I have left.. I will eventually want you to build me a box for one of these monster drivers though... For a 06 CLS 55 AMG. Ill shoot you a text sometime soon and see if you decided to look into/and/or are already familiar with that driver and your thoughts. A video would be sweet covering all that info. Ill take what I can get though. Lol Cheers brother
You know my biggest takeaway from this video... My guy was able to say he did wrong by folding the surrounding.. when your looking for a honest builder you want someone who admits and learns from mistakes 👀.. thats str8 up as it gets folks!
Have you ever seen their Gotham dual 13 for home theater? I think you have to special order them now. They price them for the highest end client but it's amazing how well it's held it;s place over the years. I don't think there is another option that is offering the sound quality and the output ratio of these are their? I have heard rumors that the Image dynamics idmax series comes close. I think those are pretty sweet to and probably more in my budget reach. Man these w7's sure are special though.
I’ve been wondering why JL went with a 3ohm SVC. Was it to intentionally draw controlled power from the amp? Maybe 3-ohms is the sweet spot for musical bass. Maybe $700 for the 8W7 is a great price.
@@milesbachelor8747 that's not what i said because you can totally use any amp w/ out warranty issues unless overpowering. The off impedance of 3ohm gave allure towards the slash series being it delivers the same power through select impedances. Alpine and taramps does the same. But you do not have to use a regulated amp at all.
