@Custom Made I think there's a whole other side to this that a lot of people will see. I think a lot of people will recognize that his daughter isn't actually guilty of anything in particular -- teenage angst and rebellion is a part of being a teenager. Most people would hear of a teenage girl or boy being a little shit to their parents and think, "Sounds about right." So there isn't anything inherently shameful with her behavior or Jocko's response to it. And if you notice, he didn't spend any time in that letter degrading his daughter or telling her anything she is doing wrong or could be doing better. He simply took the time to try to model behavior he would like for his children to adopt for themselves, which is appreciation. I almost wish my dad would have written me a letter like this when I was her age because I believe there's something truly special going on here. The girl is being enlightened to who her mother truly is. And that's incredible. Now she'll recognize there's a complex person with many lifetimes of experience behind who she used to think was just 'mom'. This could do wonders for their relationship going into the future.
I cry at this , something about it. I'm not a particularly emotional person, I only cry if Scotland win at soccer and that's virtually never. I listen to this for cathartic reasons, and I just go. Anyway - agreed; god bless you Tammy.
@@rishabhkashyap690 A single verse that is relevant to the discussion is stupidity and ignorance? I'm guessing you think he's "shoving religion into every discussion" while you are literally doing the same, with your condescension. If you want to change Christians lead by example dude.
This tribute has forced me to take a long hard look at my own children and their behavior towards their mother. Time to sit down with them and explain all the duties & responsibilities their mother takes on, day in and day out. Thank you for this Jocko.
Every time I watch him I think “his wife is a lucky women” but it sounds like he is a lucky man too. Much respect to both of them. Such a beautiful letter. “I WORSHIP her” omg I died at that part. So beautiful.
@Custom Made , following you through the comment section. Was your daddy in the military. Do you guys have a bad relationship because he tried to instill some discipline in you? Did your mommy talk shit about him and cheat on him while he was on deployment. You sound bitter and fucked in all your comments. Who hurt you?
Well, I am currently going through the teen drama with my oldest daughter. I am a stay at home, homeschooling, military mom. My husband is an SF soldier and is currently gone for a year. I needed to hear this today. Thank you 👏
@Custom Made that is very disrespectful of you. You cast shame upon someone whom is a warrior. This woman deserves an apology from you because she has sacrificed for her highest purpose, and i don't believe that she regrets it. In the end, it's all about unconditional love and I hope that you find it in your life.
@Custom Made, more like bitch made. If you're so concerned about Israel's oppression of the Palestinians, go over there and help a brother out. But you won't, because you're all talk, no action.
@Custom Made you sound too unstable to be a doctor or in the medical field. Maybe an stna. I'm calling bullshit. And what did you do hands on to help Palestinians? Specifics or it didn't happen. I do believe you lived out of a truck camper though. Hell, probably still do. But nobody with a PhD would leave as many replies to comments as you have. You haven't even made one original post, all replies. Fucking weird bro. You are a trip. Thanks for the banter though, I was really bored today.
@Custom Made hahahaha. I just noticed you had to edit that last one. Yeah, went to med school but fucked up a RU-vid comment and had to edit. Definitely full of shit. Use some of those crazy pics for your thumbnail and background on your profile too. If you can figure it out, med school grad.
@Custom Made dang dude, still going at it? Ok, I'll oblige. I am trying to help someone. You. But you haven't answered any of the questions I've asked. I'm trying to get to the root cause of your issues that you are projecting onto Jocko. Help me help you. I'm here for you buddy 👍
As a dad, this is just about the most valuable content there is, not just in giving your kids a frame of reference for how grateful they should be for their parent's sacrifice....but also acknowledging all the hurdles, obstacles, and challenges you've conquered in your own life to get where you are. Thank you guys for making these types of valuable messages out there.
My wife and I are going thru “a difficult time” with our 14 y/o daughter. “Love & respect goes a long way...” my Dad continuously preached to me growing up. A husband should always in all ways definitely defend, honor, guide, love and cherish his wife & family. Relationships require diligent mutual respect and work. Thanks for sharing!
@Custom Made , did your dad shame you publicly for liking Freddy Mercury and other guys? Is he military and didn't accept your gayness? You seem butthurt. What happened?
@saeed r You don't say? Tell me, do you find irony in omitting all punctuation while simultaneously calling someone a "dumbass"? You're the problem, dude.
As a mother and a wife who feels generally unseen and unappreciated, seeing your wife through your eyes made me realize that this is what I have been longing for someone, anyone to say about me. I'm glad I found this video so close to Mother's day. I'm going to attempt to write something like this for my mother. Thank you so much for sharing this letter, and for every insight and perspective that you and Echo and the rest of the speakers have shared us.
Im half way through and I can barely see to type. ..tears! I can only continue to pray for husband & family. That one day they will look toward me like you do your beautiful family. 🙏🌹
That was absolutely amazing and your wife sounds incredible. I can't imagine how tough it was on her or you. Thank you both so much for serving our great country and keeping us safe!
All my admiration for Jocko has been shifted towards his wife. He’s nothing without her. Incredible example of selflessness and a mother’s love. What a woman. Great tribute. Get her on the podcast!!!!
Been a huge Jocko fan for a long time now and I have to say this might be one of the most powerful and awe inspiring videos yet. It’s truly incredible to listen to a man like Jocko talk about his wife with such love and respect. That sort of thing is so rare these days. I would love to see her on the podcast, the world needs more women with values and morals and just like Jocko inspires and motivates young men maybe his wife could be a light to young girls looking to follow her example.
Its always good to reflect on life...we usually complain about stuff...but rarely take the time to be grateful for what we do have...thnx brotha....right in the dammmm feels....#getsome
Well Jocko, watching this one has given me a lump in my throat all day. Obviously have never met you or your wife, (hope to someday) but she is a rockstar and a example of the greatness of a beautiful wife and mother!
I'm a military wife and mom of 3. My husband is gone for training and just got back from deployment so the kids are struggling hard with it. This letter just felt so validating of my sacrifice. It just felt like he was reading my mail all the way down to training BJJ. Thank you so much for posting this. It means a lot to hear someone recognize what wives go through especially in sof.
Just listening to you reading this I now have great respect for your wife, whom I've never met. Just hearing the emotion and passion with which you speak of her says volumes. One day when she's older my daughter should read this...
EXCELLENT LETTER! Your wife is as AWESOME as you Jocko! I love her! Thank you for sharing your story. Thank you for your excellent service to our great USA and your family! God blessed you immensely!
Just saw this. Jocko, you married an angel. You are so blessed. She has to be one of the world’s best - without a doubt. Thank you for reading that letter. I’ll keep it for my granddaughter to show her what a real woman and mother is.
What a powerful message, thank you for sharing this. As a father with a soon to be teenager daughter and a truly strong, wonderful wife who is also an awesome mother this really resonated with me. Thank you, Jocko.
Damn Jocko you the man! No words necessary cause you said all of it! Sent what you said a Gold Star widow. Her husband was a Green Beret who took his own life and left his family 18 year old daughter now and 14 year old son. You all sacrifice so much. God bless!
Wow! What an amazing story and letter to your daughter... more importantly, its an amazing letter for the wife! You are very thoughtful for detailing out the sacrifices your wife made throughout the years!
Jocko is a great inspiration...without doubt, he is who he is also because of her...'behind every great man is a great woman'!! what a great letter from father to child.
I enjoy putting your show on in the background while I am at work, but dang man why you always making me cry at work! Seriously tho, thanks yet again for helping me keep my priorities straight with my family and beyond. You are more than an American hero and patriot, but also a leader of inspiring values. Thank you kind sir for your works!
wow. Jocko, this was good! thanks for sharing this. I was in the Navy for 4 yrs and I am now in the Navy reserves. For your wife not to complain about anything and to stick by your side that whole time says a lot. I have been out of the Navy (active duty) since 2007. My wife left me in July. I hope one day that I can find that special someone that you described how your wife was and is.
This ep was so powerful I remember where I was and what I was doing when I first heard it a couple of years ago. Awesome work from both Jocko and Iris, and this particular part is pure gold.
One thing is for sure. That girl got in line. This approach of Jocko is so much more subtle and effective, than one would expect of such a masculine/macho figure like him, very surgical. He is the most stoic men I know of, and dealing with your problems like that is what real masculinity looks like. Let that be a reminder to all of us, next time we feel like screaming or bitching about something. It'll certainly be on my mind.
This one made me cry. Jocko has done a lot of things...but how he speaks about his wife , the respect he has for her is so touching❤️Jocko just gained 1 million female fans with this video
