I used to vilify Tonya but after I saw the ESPN documentary “The Price of Gold” I became convinced that Tonya was completely innocent and had ZERO to do with what happened to Nancy Kerrigan. Tonya simply made bad choices and unfortunately those who she chose took advantage of her fame and sadly, Tonya paid the price. Tonya is a beautiful woman. I know she was innocent in all of this. Figure skating is a cruel sport and a lot of the “dirtiness” that she referred to happening in the sport is being exposed today in other ways.
@@lica1598 She had to apologize, otherwise she wasn't going to get paid by the producers. Remember, she was flat broke from the judgment levied against her when she pled guilty back in 1994. She apologized basically to pay off her judgment and legal fees.

Additionally, she was the first to do the triple in combination. And she was an amazing skater in other aspects: her musicality, her fast spins, her outstanding footwork and spiral sequences, her Ina Bauers... She's a living legend.
She doesn't sound like a villian, she never attack Nancy, she had a very hard life, and in spite of so much turmoil she managed to become famous!!!! I’m a man and I think she’s awesome. I hope she lives a healthy life and continues to be a good mom and wife. I loved the movie and brings back memories of my young adult hood.
I personally still get a ‘she did it’ vibe from this interview tho even before she said she would still be the villain 😆 I haven’t seen the film and don’t remember much from the early 90s
this girl has so much talent on ice. no matter how much she showed the skating world that she belonged, the snobs of the sport kept putting her down. being poor, and having to scrape together money just tobuy laces, . not everyone can afford designer outfits by Vera Wang, or to change coaches . this sport is expensive and unless you have parents who are doctors or lawyers, or have millions to spend, you cant get the judges to give you any consideration.
She always says she didn’t know until after. But she has said herself, she did hear them planning on taking someone out. I’ll never believe she didn’t know.

There are 6 year old girls nowadays that are trained to do triple axls off the bat and they will probably retire by the age of 25... Figure skating is really a sports that's becoming younger and younger with every year and that's really sad
i feel like nancy was told one story and tonya was told another. nancy was presented with a unbelievable story but only one that made sense was to blame her rival. the only way for those two to dig into what happened and how, why, and so forth is to talk it out. but there is probably a reason they are pushed apart, so the truth wont ever be discovered. truth is better but no so glamourized on TV. they're both innocent and someone else cashed in on it, perhaps

I was totally turned off by Karrigan. If Tonya would've had all the support Nancy had including the press she wouldn't had let idiots in her life. She was the better athlete but Im not sad Oksana won. Tonya is strong and I hope her life now is full of love.

@@hollyjolly2066 Thank you, I have been in court more then some attorneys and I have seen the CORRUPTION when they decide to 'throw the BOOK' into your face, even the judges are in on the corruption & allow defendants to LIE up a storm. I see this with Tonya Harding's case, by stopping her from iceskating is the LOWEST OF the LOW BLOW ... plus she had to pay a LOT of $cash$ to court to satisfy them, and give up the life she had only known, very unfair, Tonya did not tough her opponent, so she should not have been charged so fiercely , I watched ALL of her videos, she was framed from day 1 from a person she trusted, her wedding night was 'videotaped' for extortion purposes (I believe) blackmail, so she (Tonya) had a 'gun to her head' thru her career, she is the world's best skater, sure she falls but she gets right back up, she is a Champion of Champions in my book, she is tops in her field, NO ONE can take away that fact, her years of hard work, her heart & soul into her ice skating performances, no one can touch. I have a few other skaters who I love to watch skating but Tonya is my Princess of Ice Skating performer. I wish Tonya had not been so young when she ended up in court had I known her I would have told her to appeal judges' decision and take this case all the way to the SUPREME COURT and fight for her legal right to skate. @@hollyjolly2066 I started posting to support Tonya some years back, I may have inspired the movie to be made, my comments are strong and to the point, either way, you can see how highly stressed Tonya was during her first interviews re: movie, later she became more confident, and smiling, and relieved, amongst other good emotions, she had her hair styled, had lost weight, and was 'happy again' if my comments made even 1% bearing on her happiness again, thank God!! I know what her heart is, she is very kind, very warm & friendly, very honest, I watched enough videos to understand she is truly a very good person, as well as the world's best female ice skater, no one can take away who she is, what she is, she is also a mom, a wife, a lady, a champion. I guess the world had it's hey day, and Tonya stood up to many meanies and haters and did it with the class she possesses, she worked hard to be a champion and who she is, I give her 100 % credit for being persevering in the harshest of criticism, hatred, bullying, menancing hatred a human could endure, she came out still #1 Champion , and for those who love her, she is a fine lady indeed, she is Godly and she is a good person, God bless Tonya Harding. They tried to make her into Princess Diana, with the haircut and the puff-sleeved black velvet ball gown. Poor kid. The judges had a different ideal in mind. They had a similar prejudice towards skaters like Surya Bonaly and Midori Ito, the ones who were more athletic and less balletic. And fat-shaming people back then was pretty common. Not that these women were fat, but they weren’t built like Balanchine champagne flutes. Oksana Baiul was amazing that year and she deserved to win, but undeniably, her type was what the judges were looking for.

No other athlete has been punished so severely that I recall, most do not get stripped of their opportunity to do what they do best, their sport, plus she got an enormous fine. Either way, Tonya's skating is so much better then her competitions, her energy , her jumps , she is not foo foo , she is all business, all sport, super athletic. I guess that is why I love watching her, she is so great! Sure Tonya has fallen, has had a cut lace (who did this to her?) etc.. Tonya should not have had a hard life, she should be respected, loved, and honored. I will say again, Tonya never touched nancy, yet paid about with her life in torture emotionally , etc from many hateful 'people' so in the end, she is still a Christian, a professional skater , Olympian, a winner, a wife, a daughter, a mother and well loved by her fans, me included. Figure skating is a very "looks" driven sport. Judges just love female skaters who look like beautiful ballerinas. Unfortunately, some of the most powerful skaters don't look like that. You have to have legs like Tonya to perform the triple axel for the first time.

Why would she get royalties to the movie? She didn't didn't write, act, direct, produce, etc, it's just about her. Also, the movie is a Hollywood recreation where they take liberties, yet she's acting like the movie exonerates her. Very strange.
