Shout out to Steve-O... He is literally the reason the law was passed in California, say what you want about the guy but he stood up and successfully defeated SeaWorld. *YEA DUDE!* 😆
Yeah, it’s terrible to support the largest animal rehabilitation organization in the world. Seriously, sea world has done wonderful things for sea life, including introducing and educating people on these animals through up close interaction. I’ll support that.
Jared Pahl Sea world has done some rehab, that is true. Their main money maker is entertainment and there is no denying that. Sea mammals that swim hundreds of miles a day and have very complex relationships have no business in a cement tank. They live longer and healthier in the wild. I hope someday you can understand how cruel using these animals for entertainment is. Btw bottle nose dolphins have a permanent smile, don't ever believe they are happy to be in captivity. What about the trainers at Sea world that have been killed. No orca in the wild has ever purposely harmed any human. I love this animals and if it were at all humane I would be the biggest supporter. Sadly I can't.
Jared Pahl that is all smoke and mirrors they are a sick organization that just keeps people off their trail they are exploiting these creatures and breeding them in captivity to continue the cycle these are not endangered animals so they don't need to breed them especially if they have no plans on releasing any don't be so dumb
@@JPJones03223 did you listen to the podcast? You can educate someone about sealife without drugging/mistreating their animals/ putting them in terrible slave-like conditions. They don't deserve to be there simply for human attraction. Sea world is dog shit.
Idiots in the comments thinking hunters and meat eaters can't be against animal cruelty. Going into the forest and shooting an animal is not the same thing as capturing it and forcing it to live in a tiny enclosure for the rest of its life.
I guess we just have different views on whats necessary, we don't need meat to be healthy, we eat meat because we like the taste of meat, we eat meat for our own sensory pleasure, and when that come to an expense of a sentient beings life I call that unnecessary.
I'v seen studies that have shown plants have a certain amount of intelligence but this doesn't mean plants have sentience or feelings, they lack the brain and nervous system necessary for pain and emotions.
Whales are one of the few animals that have a SHORTER lifespan in captivity. For example killer whales in the wild can live up to 50-60 years old and on average live to about 30-40 years. Killer whales in captivity, however, rarely ever live beyond 30.
James Brasco she actually passed away at 104. She died a couple years ago but yes females can possibly live into their 100s. I believe the oldest SR orca is in L pod and she’s over 80 years old.
James Brasco yes. All pods are named and studied (J, K, and L pod are Southern Resident orcas. Granny was also known as J2 Look up Ken Balcomb. He has been looking out for the southern resident orcas for 40 years. He is the founder of the Whale Research Center in Washington State and Senior Research scientist.
Twice or three times is not a thousand. I get the point, but just say a few times if you want to be taken seriously. Things like figure of speech don't come across the same way when they are written.
Dolphins that are experimented on, and tormented, will one day just fucking decide to stop breathing. I forget his name, but this male dolphin just went to the bottom of his cage, and decided to never surface, and just die. Let that sink in. That's not an instinctive action; that's agony and misery, and choosing to end it.
Zedek Ahh, much like humans that commit suicide, who are trapped in their own isolation, depression, and thoughtlessness. Did that dolphin even THINK of his family? You know, cuz they’re so smart? Lol
We literally did to them what we have the crazies doing in horror movies, or in the nightmares we have. Freddy Kreuger nightmare type stuff. Throwing you into a concrete vat of oxygen. Feeding you scraps on trays. Forcing you to perform behaviors only to throw you back in a cell. Performing medical procedures on you without explanation. Hurting you some days, ignoring you most. Using you. Creepy and sad.
Ever wanna feel depressed go to a Chinese zoo. I went to the Shanghai Zoo in 2017 and it was the most disgusting place Ive ever been in my life. I had to leave before I started yelling at the zoo keepers. I can’t even imagine how horrific Chinese seaworld is.
Thats exactly what I was thinking, they cut a lot of corners and don’t strictly follow rules. I remember this poor polar bear in some Chinese zoo that was in such horrible condition and in a horrible environment not meant for that type of animal, it was sad and disturbing I mean it had bald spots and discolored hair. Another zoo in China was in a mall and the bear was just in a small room with no fresh air, sunlight, nothing to play or stimulate them. Just in a tiny room which that it paced around in, it’s been called the world’s saddest polar bear
I'm pleased to say that my home province of Nova Scotia, Canada has been named as the possible site of the 28 hectare retirement home for Orcas, dolphins and beluga whales ❤
School teacher: What are whales, Joseph Rogan? Joe:....they're like, water people...? School teacher: Stop trying to alienate the class again, Joe. lol
I feel viscerally effected at how horrid this is... anyone who goes with their kids or anytime ... SHAME ON YOU!! shut this sh** down!! ❤️🙏🏻🇨🇦 You guys nailed it... they truly are “water people”... 🙏🏻... I believe that this truly is a form of slavery... ANY non conservation protection animal in captivity... I FEEL SICK.
This podcast was another reminder we are the most brutal creatures in nature, we have tortured animals for their entire life spans for mild entertainment, people going to places like sea world get a day’s entertainment for the cost of a fellow beings to be trapped and tortured till their death. We are savages.
I went to a museum in Chicago and there was this Beluga Whale and her calf that were hardly moving, they would go up for air but they were in a tank that was probably 30 feet across and around 50 deep. It was so sad
Can't imagine the abject terror of being taken away from your family, taken prisoner, abused, and treated like a circus freak/slave. I can't go to Sea World or a Zoo any more. For me, morally wrong and cruel.
Joe you need a ocean or a sea life biologist maybe they can put it in perspective how many different fish/whales/dolphins have languages family’s and show feeling
This is why i love the jre ( im a new fan of the podcast) i knew about the movie blackfish but i didn't know it was this disturbing. We have no right to keep these magnificent beings in captivity for our amusement
Zoos are very beneficial. They’re one of the primary reasons for conservation that’s keeping a lot of species in stable populations. But ofc certain animals just can’t handle captivity and whales are a prime example of that
NO animal is for human entertainment. I won’t do zoos, circuses,Sea Worlds etc. NONE of them!! If people stopped going they couldn’t finance these atrocities. Laws need to put in place!!!!
I just dont see how ppl can enjoy goin to see these poor animals in those pools. I know they do kool tricks and shit but damn man, it just seems so cruel to keep a wild animal in a cage.
I feel like people like to see themselves in things like animals, and they get connected to them, and I think that's as dangerous as disassociating from animals completely
I live in Niagara Falls, and he is very right - they’re attendance is horrific. I remember going by as a kid and seeing the parking lot PACKED, now you’d be lucky to see 20 cars on a Friday (no exaggeration) - people in the city fucking hate the place
I just watched a video of a puffer fish that makes an insane geometric pattern in the sand to attract a mate; takes about 24 hrs a day for a week to complete it...I think any animal that exhibits any kind of extraordinary levels of intelligence or compassion should be protected under some global convention.
1st...they only caught calves. And the pods would cry or call for their missing calves with so much pain that we could hear it inside our homes. 2nd, they are so fkn social and smart. By the 90s, one pod had figured out that if they stayed by our reservations harbor and spit, they wouldn't taken. As a kid I have beautiful memories of them swimming to our boats and the deep side of the spit and most would let us touch them. Crazy smart and crazy fun.
9:22 And we'll never know if that was a cry for help or not, because we don't understand them. She was probably looking at all those people like damn nobody's going to help me escape.
I was lucky enough to see a huge pod of Orca just off the coast of Iceland. They are so curious and when they look at you its like they can see into your soul. Id never go and see captive Orca's or dolphins im the same with Zoo's.
It's sad to see these people separating themselves from the natural order of things. Hunting animals is needed for conservation, it may sound contradictory but it's true if you look into the science and facts. People need to stop drilling their feet into the ground and not looking at a situation from different perspectives.
It is fucked up but those shows are/we’re awesome. That documentary that came out made me want to go see one more than anything. Those trainers have balls.
