As long as you have enough to get by you can have this freedom. Having tons of money doesn't mean no money worries. It's all a mind game. Master the mind, you have it all.

Yes we know "money can't buy happiness" blah blah. Truth is when you live in debt and struggle to make ends meet, you live everyday hoping you don't blow a tire or crack a windshield because it'll set you back a week. Then you need food and gas and general living expenses that seem to rise every single day. Nevermind if you fall ill or need a surgery, then your life is really over. Vacation? Wtf is a vacation... your sanity becomes harder to hold onto than money. Even pursuing most passions on the side involve money. Everything sounds great talking but it's just not how it works. Just like money creates money... debt creates more debt.

You don't think that for every endeavor that Joe has been a part of, he hasn't fought REALLY hard for the best contract he could get ? Doug Stanhope talks about the time he and Rogan did the "Man Show" as a "turd"... a turd that he admits that they got paid a shit-ton of cash to do. That wasn't a "passion" for either of them. It was a payday. Trust me, that was PURELY pursuing money. "Remember people..." - pretentious twat.
@PiCheZvara
@PiCheZvara 7 лет назад
Yes, but you pursue your passion when youre young. But after 30, most people want to make money off of whatever it is they do. Even artists. Most actors, comedians and musicians experiment when they are younger, but when they start getting older, they take jobs for big bucks even if they dont like them. They make radio-friendly hits, take acting gigs in Transformers, or big comic-book movies, do stupid sit-coms, or in Joes case - host friggin Fear Factor. Im sure that was a true passion for Joe. Such is life. We all reach a certain skill level at something and have a chance to make money off of it - If you didnt follow your passions in your 20s and you have a chance to make big bucks in a job that you never cared about in your 30s, normal response of 99 percent of sensible adults is that they keep doing the job. Just like those with passion jobs start doing things they dont care about just for money. The principle is the same - money becomes the important thing. Im a lawyer for example. I dont particularly like the job, never did. It is often tedious and boring. But it is also worthwhile and it keeps my mind sharp. And now after years of doing it, in my 30s and with a lot of bills to pay, Im now at a point where good money is starting to come my way. Just like those celebs who take big paycheck movies, or other gigs. So Im supposed to quit now to chase some dream from my childhood, when I know Im never going to be able to make this much money chasing that dream? And when I know those who did chase that dream are also doing shit they dont like just for money? Sorry, but fck that. After a certain age, we all want money, no matter how we get them. Those who are lucky and get them by doing something they originally loved, or do love - great. The rest of us have to make them doing something we dont really like, but such is life.

There's a lot of people in the comments missing the point of the video. They're not saying money is bad, or that they wish they were broke. They acknowledged that money can protect you. Their point is that the pursuit of money above all else i.e. greed is a terrible thing that can ruin lives.
@PiCheZvara

Says a guy who did Fear Factor just for money. How is that different from most of us who keep doing jobs we dont like just because we gained some skill and because of that, the job now pays really well? Joe also accepted jobs he didnt like just for money and we all do that as we get older. So if somebody wants to be financially set and does a job that pays him Great money and that person is happy with it, wheres the problem? Its just like Joe hosting Fear Factor. It doesnt mean we all tear our hair out, just because we dont love the job. Its just a friggin job after a certain point, who cares?

Wealth provides safety, health, happiness (according to current economic and psychological research), much lower rates of divorce, much higher rates of higher education, home ownership, the ability to travel... should I go on? And unless you're straight up lucky there's no way to accumulate wealth without pursuing it. I think Joe and Shirley are just complaining because they thought that becoming rich would solve ALL of their problems and they're too daft to realize that it only solved MOST of their problems.

This is one of the reasons people have stopped following Joe Rogan. He's been rich for 25 years. Twenty-five years! He was in the main cast of the reasonably successful tv show NewsRadio starting in 1995 for five years while also being an UFC commentator since 1997. H was making bank. Then he became the host of Fear Factor in 2001 when he really started raking in the cash. He has forgotten ordinary people's struggles.

the pursuit to improve the quality and standard of your life is the greatest attribute that humans have.... we should celebrate this.... self interest is not greed.... if you acquire your wealth from people voluntarily giving it to you, there is nothing wrong with it.
@HaploidCell
@HaploidCell 6 лет назад
Money buys you a lot of things, but, first and foremost, it buys security. Financial security means less stress, less stress means a longer life. That is how it should be - but when you over-do it then you end up with obscene amounts of money, which require obscene amounts of stress to aquire. This kinda ruins the common sense formula of what wealth is about, right? Everyone thinks "oh man, what if I had 30 milliond dollars .... to spend". This is not how these extreme rich people approach money at all. It's all about acquisition. Greed. Greed is good in that it makes you productive, efficient, etc. but it has to have goals. When you get stuck on the acquisitioning part of it all you can go in circles for the rest of your life. But look - these people are happy. They see the world through finance, and they can make the world do literally anything for them because of their money - so they have a world view that WORKS. And that they are good at. This is not the same as happiness, but it can provide a deep sense of satisfaction. Video games gets slammed because they are "addictive" in that, every time you earn something there's a little satisfying noise, a symbol with a big, fat PLUS sign in front of it. And you want to keep playing that game, because you can see immidate results. Having a lot of money must be like that, but orders of magnitude more real and more satisfying. Because then you get up, walk out of the office, and go eat a burger that costs 200$ and it feels good to have luxury. Imagine if the world was like you expected, you knew how all the buttons worked, and how you had to push them. Like your crazy conspiracy theories - only real, and you get that smug "I know how the world REALLY works" feeling every time you look out the window and you see ordinary people go to their ordinary, tedious 9-5 jobs. Usually, this burns itself out by the third generation, right? You can't raise people in an environment of luxury and wealth and expect them to have that same kind of drive for the numbers game. Except if you're that good at numbers, and rich, because you have the genetic makings of a psychopath, or you're on the spectrum - but you know what I mean. The only way you can make sure, then, that your offspring is taken care off 3 generations down the line is to leave them such an obscene amount of money that they can try their hand at business and fail all throughout their lives and still have enough left over for 4 cushy lifetimes. And then it just becomes a game of "what can I do with this money in this life", and "how much can I possibly get", and "for how long can I make safe the future of my offspring".

The key question is *how* are you getting and spending your wealth? If you're working hard, providing value (products/services) and/or jobs to people, then turn around and invest or donate, I can see that giving you a sense of purpose and fulfillment of your moral obligations. If you're just born into wealth and not spending it to help others (and I mean freely, being taxed out of your wealth won't do it), you're probably going to sense that void in your life sooner or later.

From job to job, hotels, restaurants, Lyft, Uber, doordash and everything else I've tried has turned into a failure, I've been homeless now 5 times in the last 5 years, I would have never thought growing up in this country that I would end up at 40 years old, living with my youngest sister and her mom, because now my family is destroyed over this materialistic society, it's truthfully such an evil world that revolves around making money and that's all everyone cares about, because having more than the next person feels better. History repeats it's self over and over, humans are the most evil living thing on this planet and no human created the world. Yet this man made system of money gives a humans the power to think the more they have, then the more they own. When does God come into the picture and humble the Rich?

My Muse African Americans do not use that statement of “We Were Kings” of mastering their inner selves. They use it to infer that they were majestic and the things some of them have to go through was beneath them. When In fact every nationality had Kings and Queens. So in the end it’s a hollow statement because they weren’t the only ones who were ever royalty. We were kings!!!! So what? Every other country in the world had one too, you’re not that special.

"America is the wealthiest nation on Earth, but its people are mainly poor, and poor Americans are urged to hate themselves. To quote the American humorist Kin Hubbard, 'It ain’t no disgrace to be poor, but it might as well be.' It is in fact a crime for an American to be poor, even though America is a nation of poor. Every other nation has folk traditions of men who were poor but extremely wise and virtuous, and therefore more estimable than anyone with power and gold. No such tales are told by the American poor. They mock themselves and glorify their betters. The meanest eating or drinking establishment, owned by a man who is himself poor, is very likely to have a sign on its wall asking this cruel question: 'if you’re so smart, why ain’t you rich?' There will also be an American flag no larger than a child’s hand - glued to a lollipop stick and flying from the cash register. Americans, like human beings everywhere, believe many things that are obviously untrue. Their most destructive untruth is that it is very easy for any American to make money. They will not acknowledge how in fact hard money is to come by, and, therefore, those who have no money blame and blame and blame themselves. This inward blame has been a treasure for the rich and powerful, who have had to do less for their poor, publicly and privately, than any other ruling class since, say Napoleonic times. Many novelties have come from America. The most startling of these, a thing without precedent, is a mass of undignified poor. They do not love one another because they do not love themselves." Vonnegut, Slaughterhouse Five.
@andyfox1979
@andyfox1979 5 лет назад
Vonnegut was a wonderful writer but very typical of the elitist leftists (especially those who were born rich and remained so their entire lives) where they see rich and poor as static constants (because it was for them). I grew up shit poor and have worked and saved and leveraged myself into a pretty good spot. Had I continued the way my parents lived I'd still be poor and still be blaming rich people for my lot. And the last line about poor people hating each other, it's complete horseshit. Poor immigrants have been helping each other and working together since this country was founded and are still doing it today. Also one last thing, Vonnegut was a terrible cheapskate snob and elitist throughout his life making pleas of "please be kind!" Seem like as Kilgore Trout might say, "some sort of sick joke".

I don't really understand the negative attitude to this clip. The idea behind what they are talking about is motivation. They are saying that wealthy people who are motivated by money and only money are often unhappy people. They are not saying wealthy people are inherently unhappy. They are implying if people pursue wealth by a means other than purely the pursuit of wealth that they are more likely to be happy. At least that's what I took away from the clip.

I like Joe Rogan, until he start talking about certain African American subject matter that he does not fully grasp historically and contextually . The reason many African Americans have to say that we were “King” and “Queens” is because African Americans were subjected to centuries of slavery, so it’s a way of self empowerment. The same way in the 1970s during the black power movement with the slogan and “I’m black and proud,” it’s because African American were taught in every way by white dominant society that being black was slavery, being subjected to Jim Crow, black codes, lynching, etc...so it was way to self empowerment. ✊🏿

Same. At today's rates, I could put 2 mil in a CD at my credit union and make 40k annually in interest (still over 35k after taxes) without having to waste all my time and energy at a boring dead-end corporate job where I'm interchangeable with any other human. That's not even the most efficient option, just the most straightforward with minimal risk. What baffles me is that there's people with 10-100x that amount of money, and it still isn't enough for them. Like, it's their money and they can do whatever they want with it, but at the same time, how many mansions do you need?
