Really great photos of the opening night party for the 1974 New York stage production of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band On The Road. It only ran for 66 performances, but is still a part of the Beatles History. Nice to see John and May with management and production people along with celebrities in attendance. Looks like John with May Pang during his “Lost Weekend” period

he was shining up with May pang and no one can deny that not even Yoko.

May Pang reconnected father and son John and Julian after his 1968 divorce with Cynthia. It was only in 1973 when Julian was reunited with his father, thanks to the effort of then john’s girl MAY PANG. And according to julian, this was the time when his happiest moments with his father happened. After 18 months, john was back in yoko’s arms. May Pang said that john wanted her to still connect as his mistress/ girl friday but she denied his offer. Afterwards, john called this 18 month may pang affair his “lost weekends”. Had he stayed with Pang, his fate would have been different of course. For better, may be. He looked calm and ease during this period.

To me, John looks "lost" and unhappy in a lot of these photographs. Doesn't look as if he is really enjoying himself. He isn't interacting much with May either, although May seems happy enough. From what I've read, May and John had a lovely time together during their 18 month romance. I cannot put my finger on it, but John Lennon was never the same after returning from India in 1968. The joy and laughter went out of his life. He became so miserable and depressed, left Cynthia and got with Yoko. Yet he never seemed really happy with Yoko. I think John Lennon was a man of sorrows who had a lot of issues with his parents abandoning him. Love you John.

Why is this called the after party for Sgt. Pepper?? Lennon was with May Pang starting in 1973. It was his lost weekend it ended after about 18 months.. Sgt. Pepper was 1967.

These photos were taken in the 70's during John's so called lost weekend period in L.A. So the title is very misleading and incorrect.

Amazing pictures Elena from Sgt.Pepper party. What is curious is that May Pang was still filling in for Yoko? This movie was Released in 1977-78 after John’s lost weekend & he was already back w/Yoko, man what a position May was put in! I like the picture of her next to John w/her hair partially over her face. Lennon w/ Alice Cooper, not sure if That was Bianca Jagger in one pic & I think I saw promoter Pete Bennett in one picture? I could not figure out what this after party was for, since clearly this was John Lennon many years after the release of the album. A little Googling indicates that this was for a short lived Broadway musical that ran at the Beacon theater in New York City, about 1974. I think the full title is "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band on the Road."

If Elvis could only have been at this party things might have been different. Priscilla had treated Elvis horribly; Yoko could have been working the coat-check, met Elvis and moved him in to the Dakota. They would have spent the 1980s on Hollywood Squares, Elvis taking the Square lately bereft of Charley Weaver---at last a nation could cease to mourn---Yoko, starting in a lower corner Square, would have repelled and fascinated both audiences and fellow contestants with non sequiturs, wackwack*, screeds and her trademark screeching; she would rise through the levels by working those same talents on producers. Into the Eighties Paul Lynde and Elvis would have become established as their own odd couple, and the trio would have held viewers such that streets would have been deserted on Wednesday nights. Time Magazine's cover "Surrealistic Trainwreck" would have shown the Squares set. Following Lynde's tragic passing on a toilet in the Dakota (his body found many days after the event in a lengthy, confused search of the 26 apartments Yoko Lennon Presley owned in the famed Central Park celebrity dorm), audiences would sour on Elvis and Yoko. A diaspora would ensue, Elvis doing infomercials and running three times for Congress, each time from a different state, Yoko in a late-punk vocal group with Linda Ronstadt, Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris. The world would turn, as it is wont to do, and in the early '90s Yoko and an "old" comic friend would conceive a TV show that would go on to revolutionize the by-then stagnant medium. Elvis, Yoko, rising comic Jerry Seinfeld and an unknown named Jason Alexander would establish a new beachhead for comedy, a beachhead with a grapefruit on it. Of "Ono!", creative director / writer John Lennon would say "This is a show about nothing". Going out on a high note after nearly a decade on the air, she and Lennon would make the largest immediate-to-syndication deal in history, Yoko would hit the clutch again and enter politics herself. Yoko AND her husband. 1998 would see the state of Arkansas---the fourth in which "Mr.Yoko Ono" had run---elect Governor Elvis Aron Presley. Indeed his wife would not be outshone. Returning to the Dakota after a series of unfortunate events at rib-B-Q's in Little Rock, Yoko would announce her candidacy for the U.S. Senate representing New York. Ex-hubby John, working hard the connections from "Ono!", would have cornered most of the endorsements and big money not only in New York but outside, so that the effort by ex-First Lady Hillary Clinton would be a come-lately frustration for the latter, a cat-fight with a tiger in it. Mrs.Clinton's campaign slogan, "I'm The REAL Nasty Woman", would be ridiculed in the New York Times; crowds would crowd around Yoko Ono as she retorted "I'll nail her to the wall like that tigerskin at (2:00) in Elena's photovid!"
