Thank you for the review, everyone. We value your feedback. I'd like to clarify one point: The Flat Head boots are not produced in the same factory as ours. Kiya from Self Edge requested Flat Head to replicate our boots for Self Edge after we ceased supplying Kiya due to constant payment issues. We eventually had to request Flat Head to discontinue copying our boot patterns. While we didn't invent the engineer boot, we infuse our own creativity into the design to make it uniquely ours. We kindly asked Flat Head to do the same.

Great vid guys, I have the devil's causeway and the 444 very happy with them both. The Shinki looks incredible and will age beautifully with time...

Great video and boots. I prefer flat welts as well. Looking forward to seeing the Keystone boots.

Best boots I’ve ever owned. When I put them on it feels like I’m putting my feet on. They’re that comfortable.

Thanks for your input! What JL boots do you own?
@olgi2068

Isn´t it that Shinki gets shrunken by almost 30% during the tanning process? Which is why the leather has this honeycomb texture? I prefer the amount of texture seen on that specific engineer rather than the devil´s ones. I own a pair of M-43s and the natural CXL engineer. Once you get past the price point, clearly my favorite shoemaker.

Great video guys! I got the exact same pair recently and wondered if you had any tips on how to maintain shinki? Conditioner type [venetian?], matching polish to cover scratches, etc)
@themancaveclub
@themancaveclub 2 месяца назад
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I don’t usually use any type of conditioner on my boots. Mostly because I like my boots to look beat up and broken in with all the scratches and wear marks. In the rare instance that put anything on my boots- I usually just use mink oil paste. Apply it liberally, let it soak in for a while, then wipe and buff.

Thanks for the video. I love Lofgren boots, but I wouldn't recommend them to people with narrow feet like mine. They should have a narrow last. I can say that from personal experience.
@themancaveclub
@themancaveclub 2 месяца назад
IDK, I have narrow feet too, I find this Last to be extremely narrow. I actually wish it was a bit wider.
@ernestoviu3952
@ernestoviu3952 2 месяца назад
@@themancaveclub So I think I don't have narrow feet, I have them too narrow. My feet could almost turn around inside the boot, the length was fine, but the width was not for me. I tried a pair of Lofgren engineer boots one size smaller and those fit me well in width, but not in length. A shame for me, this brand is not for me. The only engineer boots that work well for me are the Clinch narrow last ones. Greetings

I just got a pair of JL in CXL, but as far as the last, I usually wear 10 EE in PNW boots (Nicks/Franks), and JL Engineers fit me well, even though they claim to be D. I did follow JL advise and used 10.5, so 0.5 size up. Having wide foot and high instep I was sure there would be issues (getting them on/off and room in toebox), pleasantly surprised that that while snug and felt like they would not fit, less than a minute of wiggling and my feel slide in nicely. I do use thick wool socks (Darn Tough), no heel slip either, YMMV. Only issue I had is that the CXL leather on JL feels very thin. I guess I am used to the thick leather on PNW brands (I always choose the W&C leathers, like Latigo or Double Stuffed). Can anyone tell me if Horsebutt is thicker than CXL??
@themancaveclub
@themancaveclub 2 месяца назад
Good sizing advice! I also went up in size. I don’t think the HH is much thicker per se, it’s just denser. Horse is a tighter grain leather.
@Jamesv13
@Jamesv13 2 месяца назад
How is it getting in and out of those? I hear its near impossible getting them on if you have a high instep. How much instep would you say you have?

If my feet length is around 25.5 to 26 cm and width is 24.5 cm (round), could you kindly advice what size should I go for. I was thinking size US 9 (which I normally wear for engineer boot like Zerrow) or SIze US 8.5 ( which should be perfect fit). As I am not sure if John's boots run a little big or true to size. Appreciate so much
@themancaveclub
@themancaveclub 2 месяца назад
Hi there- Sizing is really tricky. Is there any possible way you can try a pair on before you buy? For reference, my foot is about 28 cm and I went with a size 9 but, might’ve been able to wear a size 9.5. I find JL boots to be slightly narrow. I might suggest that you order from a retailer whom you can return the boots if they don’t fit right, otherwise wait until you can make it to Standard & Strange to try them on. Sorry, I wish I could be more helpful-
@user-vu7qv3wm4r

@@themancaveclub Thanks so much for the tips. Actually I am thinking order from Standard & Strange as they accept return for size exchange (return shipping fee is on buyer own cost but that's fair I guess).
@themancaveclub
@themancaveclub 2 месяца назад
@@user-vu7qv3wm4r Yeah, sometimes ya gotta take a chance and bit the bullet on return. Like said, I went with a 9D but, I probably could’ve gone 9.5
@themancaveclub
@themancaveclub 2 месяца назад
You could always sway bigger and use an insert or wear thick socks. But, if the boot is too small there’s not much you can do.

The drama with JL was that racist tirade he went on a couple years back. I've also since had no interest in the brand or the guy.

@John_Lofgren
@John_Lofgren 2 месяца назад
That’s quite the accusation. I would never risk my reputation by saying that about someone without providing evidence. The tactic to discredit people by calling them racist has grown old.
@olgi2068
@olgi2068 Месяц назад
Please be more specific, if you already go in that area. JLB had a hashtag somewhere along the line of not made in China/Indonesia. He referred to issues of work ethics but unfortunately omitted to acknowledge small boot makers in both Asian countries. Calling this "racist" might not be the appropriate term, IMHO. Stitchdown being in with Ironboots (made in China), sure reacted as did others. I am not judging or defending anyone here, but calling someone a "racist" is way beyond.
