John MacArthur gives the following 6 signs of salvation:
1. You’ve been taught the Word of God by the Holy Spirit.
2. You’ve been led by the Holy Spirit.
3. You’ve been comforted by the Holy Spirit.
4. You’ve been filled with the Holy Spirit.
5. You’ve been convicted by the Holy Spirit.
6. You cry out to God when you are in trouble.
Are these really signs or proofs of one's salvation? Bob Wilkin of the Grace Evangelical Society examines each of these 6 signs, and tells one how can be sure that they have everlasting life and will be with Jesus forever in His kingdom.

Here's 6 signs you will not be saved. 1 Refusing to humble yourself to God by repenting of sin. 2 Having only a static intellectual faith 3 No conversion. 4 Never crucifying the flesh 5 Living in iniquity which is continuous unrepentant sin. 6 Never becoming a new creation in Christ Jesus

lol Isn't it funny. They'll say we aren't saved by works, but works are proof your saved. I recently got into a debate with a lost man at my church regarding this. Its gotta be a sad doctrine to never have assurance. I cannot die because God Cannot Lie. The word says who Believes, Receives. It really is just that simple. Christ work is finished, He doesn't need our filthy rags. look to your subjective experience as a sinful man to your own suffering. Look to Gods Unchanging word for true assurance.

McArthur version of being led by the spirit sounds like "success"? I've said this many times in the past: JMac's Lordship Salvation is just the other side of an Arminian coin. There are days when I feel like everything he said. Others when I don't. All subjective and based in feelings.

MacArthur really embodies a view of Faith that is substantially similar to Roman Catholicism, on one hand (Fides Formata) . Paul Holloway clarifies MacArthur's view of Faith RE: Roman Catholicism: John MacArthur’s The Gospel According to Jesus has rekindled the debate long smoldering in Evangelical circles over Lordship Salvation.1 At the center of this debate is the question of the nature of saving faith: whether it entails a response of the human will to the lordship of Christ. Dr. MacArthur has become the leading proponent of the Lordship position. At the same time, however, he has taken the Lordship account of faith a significant step further. Traditionally, Lordship advocates have extended faith to include commitment, but not obedience, which for them is faith’s sure fruit. But MacArthur, in a chapter entitled “The Nature of True Faith,” repeatedly speaks of obedience itself as constitutive of faith.2 For MacArthur good works are no longer merely the product of saving faith. They are an integral part of it. This is a significant development. But it is also a serious departure from Evangelical Protestant doctrine. In fact, MacArthur’s proposal is virtually an invitation to return to the Medieval Roman Catholic understanding of “formed faith” (fides formata), the very notion that Luther repeatedly attacked in his famous 1535 commentary on Galatians. II. MacArthur’s Account of Faith There is an initial ambiguity, if not contradiction, in MacArthur’s account of faith.3 At times he describes the relationship between faith and works in the traditional terminology of cause and effect (works being the effect of saving faith). At other times he treats the relationship as one of a whole to its parts (works being a part of saving faith). But it is clearly the latter model that takes precedence for him. MacArthur writes that faith “encompasses obedience,”4 and that obedience is “an integral part of saving faith.”5 Indeed, obedience is bound up in the very “definition of faith, “6 being a constitutive element in what it means to believe.”7 Thus any “concept of faith that excludes obedience”8 must be rejected because obedience is “indivisibly wrapped up in the idea of believing.”9 In fact, “the character of true faith” is nothing less than the “higher righteousness” of the Beatitudes of Matthew 5:3-11.10 MacArthur even suggests that obedience is “synonymous with” faith.11 And he quotes with approval Rudolf Bultmann’s dictum, “‘To believe’ is ‘to obey.'”12 It is reasonable to conclude, therefore, that when MacArthur invokes the traditional cause-and-effect model and says, for example, that faith “produces” obedience, this is the case only in a secondary sense, that is, only in the sense that faith already is obedience. Likewise, when he says that obedience is the “product” of faith, this too should be taken in a qualified sense. For as he plainly states, saving faith “embodies” righteous works.13 According to MacArthur, then, the works that follow faith are not, strictly speaking, its effects. They are rather the temporal manifestations or expressions of the obedience inherent in faith itself. Of course, something like this has always been a central tenet of Lordship Salvation. Faith is defined in light of the lordship of Christ, a lordship that calls for obedience. It is just that MacArthur goes beyond the traditional account. For traditionally, obedience is said to be present in faith mediately, that is, by way of an act of personal submission or commitment, an inclining of the will in the direction of obedience.14 With MacArthur, however, it is present in the act of faith immediately: To believe is to obey.15"

John Piper is a classic example who made this statement in his sermon entitled, "Why God is not a megalomaniac in demanding to be worshiped" - Nov 20, 2008 in Providence, Rhode Island. Piper says, "I deal with this as much as anything, probably, in the people that I'm preaching to. "Fears and doubts, doubts not about objective "Did He rise from the dead?" - very few people are wrestling with that - but "Am I in? Am I saved?" That's very common for people to wrestle with." "But why I sin against my wife the same at age 62 that I did at age 42 causes me sometimes to doubt my salvation or the power of the Holy Spirit. - This question is not theoretical." ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ My comment - In other words, when Piper gets into a heated argument with his wife where he loses it momentarily, his "assurance of salvation" goes way down, and then later he makes up with his wife by apologizing and then with flowers and candy, his "assurance" goes back up to 98%, but never a full 100%. So what do you do with Rom. 8:16: "The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God" (NKJV)? In fact, Romans 8:14-17 specifically address the subject of assurance, and MacArthur mentioned verses 14 and 15 in his presentation. And then what do you do with all the atheists here on RU-vid who once made professions of faith, but have since "deconverted"? Some of them at one time were even pastors.

@robertwheeler1158 There are many saved people who deconverted out of anger, disappointment, and disillusionment, but deconversion does not undo one's salvation because a person is sealed with the unbreakable seal of the Holy Spirit at the very moment of faith alone in Christ alone apart from works for salvation - Ephesians 1:13-14, 2 Corinthians 1:22. Also, Christ is an unfailing Savior who does not give up on His people in spite of their major failures and screw ups in life, including deconverting and apostasy from the faith - John 10:28-29, Romans 8:38-39. If these people who are deconverted are truly saved, then God will in due time bring circumstances upon them including chastisement as a wake up call to come back to fellowship with Him - Hebrews 12:5-11, Proverbs 3:11-12. Matthew 18:12-14 - "If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them wanders away, what will he do? Won't he leave the ninety-nine others on the hills and go out to search for the one that is lost? And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he will rejoice over it more than over the ninety-nine that didn't wander away!" If chastisement fails, where the person reverts back to a lifestyle of sin, apostasy, etc, then God will terminate the person's physical life span and take the person home - 1 John 5:16-17. Christians in this life who lived unfaithfully, disobediently, carnally, etc, are in essence building a "house" made of wood, hay, and stubble which are materials that will not stand up to Christ's fiery scrutiny and will end up falling apart and collapsing, but they are still saved. Their flimsy "house" is destroyed resulting in loss of eternal rewards, BUT they are still saved and in heaven - 1 Corinthians 3:15. There is a parallel between 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 and Matthew 7:24-27 where 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 explains Matthew 7:24-27. 1 Corinthians 3:10-15 - 10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. 11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; 13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. 14 If any man's work ABIDE which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a REWARD.(Note: The word "reward" is NOT referring to the free gift of eternal life, but is referring to an ETERNAL REWARD that is earned by our performance here on earth) 15 If any man's work shall be BURNED, he shall suffer loss: BUT HE HIMSELF SHALL BE SAVED; yet so as by fire. Hope this helps to clarify, God bless!

@robertwheeler1158 The following Biblical example is worth considering. King Solomon is a true man of God, but became a serial polygamist taking 1000 wives and became a DEMON WORSHIPER at the end of his life - 1 Kings 11:1-13. Solomon also had a HAREM full of women - Ecclesiastes 2:8. Solomon even built 2 altars to the 2 demon gods, Chemosh and Molech in 1 Kings 11:7-8. Molech was a demon god that required child sacrifices - A SATANIC PRACTICE. (The practice of sacrificing one's sons/daughters in the fire - Leviticus 18:21, 2 Kings 23:10) THIS WAS KING SOLOMON. Solomon persisted in his sins despite God warning him TWICE - 1 Kings 9:2 - 6, 1 Kings 11:9-11. Because of Solomon's defiance, God declared to Solomon that He would tear away a major portion of his kingdom, but do it in his son's generation because of God's covenant with Solomon's father, King David. God then brought 3 adversaries against Solomon - 1 Kings 11:14, 23, 26. Then we read that Solomon tried to commit MURDER in 1 Kings 11:40. Nowhere in Scripture does it ever say that Solomon "lost his salvation" or "never had it to begin with." People in the Old Testament were saved the exact same way as people in New Testament times, otherwise the apostle Paul would not have quoted Genesis 15:6 in Romans 4:2-6, and Galatians 3:5-8 in support of SALVATION BY FAITH ALONE IN CHRIST ALONE APART FROM OUR WORKS. Old Testament people were saved by LOOKING FORWARD to Christ and His finished work on the cross. Modern Church age people are saved by LOOKING BACK to Christ and His finished work on the cross. Galatians 3:8-10 - Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and ANNOUNCED THE GOSPEL IN ADVANCE TO ABRAHAM: “All nations will be blessed through you.” So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith. 10 For all who rely on the works of the law are under a curse, as it is written: “Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law.”

@IronSharpensIron127 Anyway, check out the striking similarities of Calvinism's doctrine of "double predestination"/"unconditional election" versus the Islamic doctrine of fatalism: 1) The Islamic Surah Ibrahim 14:4 - "And We did not send any messenger except [speaking] in the language of his people to state clearly for them, and ALLAH SENDS ASTRAY(THEREBY) WHOM HE WILLS AND GUIDES WHOM HE WILLS. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise." 2) The Islamic Surah 2:6-7 states, "It is the same to them whether you warn them or do not warn them, they will not believe. ALLAH HAS SET A SEAL ON THEIR HEARTS AND ON THEIR HEARING. AND ON THEIR EYES IS A VEIL; GREAT IS THE CHASTISEMENT THEY INCUR." 3) In Islam, in the 2nd stage of "Taqdeer" (fate), it states that "Allah made a divine decree after the creation of Adam. Allah took out all of the progeny of Adam (i.e. all of the humans from the beginning of time until the end of time), and asked them "Am I not your Lord?" and all of the humans responded "We testify that You are our Lord!" THEN ALLAH DECREED TO THEM WHO SHALL GO TO PARADISE AND WHO SHALL GO TO HELL." 4) In Islam, Allah is exalted and pleased as he sends people to hell: this is the fatalistic claim of Islam. Fatalism is a belief that events are fixed in advance for all time in such a manner that human beings are powerless to change them. In this case, Allah will send to heaven whomever he pleases, and send to hell whomever he pleases. ("Unveiling Islam: An Insider’s Look at Muslim Life and Beliefs" pages 31-32, by authors Ergun Mehmet Caner and Emir Fethi Caner Grand Rapids, MI: Kregel Publications, 2002.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Calvinism: 1) John Calvin's Institutes of the Christian Religion, Book 3, Chapter 21, section 5 - "SOME ARE PREORDAINED TO ETERNAL LIFE, OTHERS TO ETERNAL DAMNATION, and accordingly, as each has been created for one or other of those ends, we say that he has been predestined to life or death." 2) "That owing to one man all pass into condemnation who are born of Adam unless they are born again in Christ, even as He has appointed them to be regenerated, before they die in the body, whom He PREDESTINATED TO EVERLASTING LIFE, as the most merciful bestower of grace; while to those whom He HAS PREDESTINATED TO ETERNAL DEATH, He is also the most righteous awarder of punishment not only on account of the sins which they add in the indulgence of their own will, but also because of their original sin, even if, as in the case of infants, they add nothing thereto." "Now this is my definite view on that question, so that the hidden things of God may keep their secret, without impairing my own faith." - Augustine, City of God, On the Soul and its Origin, Book 4, Chapter 16.

MacArthur teaches that works are "a constituent element of saving faith" ...that "saving faith is never alone" . MacArthur ultimately thinks that "faith" is synonymous with one having been arbitrarily "Elected" by a completely Unknowable Secret Decree (Calvinism) , only "sniffed at" by means of Fruit Inspection (works Calculations) . Thus , His view obliterates any resort to doubtless certitude of one's Everlasting destination because Perseverance in Performance (works) till death is truly what he's denoting in his concept of "faith" . Entirely subjective . Therefore , his message can only duplicate the heart of the Judaizers/unregenerate Scribes and Pharisees (Matthew 23) who uniformly think that what they're DOING is ultimately Decisive in where they spend eternity .

Salvation in Christ starts when one hears the gospel of Christ. A brief summary of this gospel is that it consists of things we must believe, commands that we must obey to be saved, and promises of God that we will receive after salvation. This gospel of Christ tells us about what Jesus did for all humans on the cross as our Lord, God, and Savior. Once a person hears and believes in what Jesus has offered by way of salvation, they must realize their sin, repent of their sins, confess Him as Lord, get water baptized for the forgiveness of their sins, and live obediently to His commands. Here are a few verses that summarize the gospel of Christ. • The gospel must be preached for it is the power of God unto salvation (Mark 16 15; Romans 1 16). • Saving Faith is the direct result of instruction in God's word (John 6 44 and 45; Romans 10 17). • Saving Faith leads to repentance (Acts 2:36-38). • Repentance leads to salvation (2 Corinthians 7:9-10). • When one has repented, turned and confessed his faith in Jesus (Acts 8:37, Romans 10 10), he is then water baptized into Christ (Romans 6:1-6). • This makes one a child of God (Galatians 3:26-27). • 1 John 2:3-4 obey is commandments if you actually KNOW Him.

Jesus didn't die for demons. He died for human beings. The point about even the demons believe isn't to point out that believing is not enough. Rather, it is to implore saved humans to live a life of righteousness, not to be saved, but rather so we can be obedient to God's command to be salt and light in this world, what every believer has the ability to do with the Holy Spirit living inside of them.

What you are not considering is that our own efforts, our own righteousness is as filthy rags to a Holy God. Trying to perform ( not sin)to get to Heaven is law keeping. Since sin is the transgression of the law, then trying to not covet, not steal, (part of God's moral law) etc. in the effort to merit salvation is law keeping us law keeping and no one is justified by the law. The Bible says if it be of works (law) it is not of grace. Therefore, no one is saved by trying to earn Heaven through our law keeping or works (repenting of sins, water baptism, taking communion, the Eucharist, church attendance or other works). This is because such a person isn't trusting in Christ alone. That is, they have added their own righteousness to salvation instead of keeping the focus on what Jesus has already done for us. Our sins, past, present, and future are already paid for, we simply have to believe in what Jesus has already done for ourselves to be saved. That is 1 Corinthians 15: 1-4. The verse you quoted also continues with and so we're some of you, but you have been washed. That is, Christ's righteousness is imputed unto us when we believe. Therefore, we are a new creation in Christ and are indwelt with the Holy Spirit. Our identity is no longer defined by our sins, as we have been washed white as snow. Our flesh will still sin, but are spiritual selves have been sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise. The verses you mention and the following verses isn't a call to not sin lest you not make it to Heaven. It is .making a distinction between what we are and who we have come to be when we are saved. In our flesh, without coming to faith in Christ and being made righteous, we would not see Heaven. But through faith in Christ, we are deemed righteous because we have Christ's righteousness imputed to us. Therefore, we will have eternal life and not perish.

Who uses Gods word to try to look for people who were sinners, such as King David and Samson were adulterers and were still in right standing with God. Conveniently leaving out that David and Samson repented of their sins to have their sins forgiven. Peter too denied Christ 3 times but he too repented of his denial and God used him to start the church. Their repentance smashes the false teaching of Yankeeism, who not only pretends we don't have to repent of our sins it also destroys the teaching that past, present, and future sins are automatically forgiven. 2 Timothy 4:3-4 For a time is coming when people will no longer listen to sound and wholesome teaching. They will follow their own desires and will look for teachers who will tell them whatever their itching ears want to hear. 4They will reject the truth and chase after myths. Signs of salvation Can people see since the moment of your conversion that God is working in your life to make you Holy? Philippians 2:13 For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. Can you see that? When you look at the world and maybe it decieves you,and draws you to it,that God comes and disciplines you? When you participate in sin you can't stand it because the Holy Spirit is so convicting you. Jude 1:15 To execute judgment on all and to convict all the ungodly of all their deeds of ungodliness that they have committed in such an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things that ungodly sinners have spoken against him. Or can you call yourself Christian and still look like the world, act like the world, talk like the world, dress like the world,do everything that the world does? 1 John 2:15-17 Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life is not from the Father but is from the world. 17 And the world is passing away along with its desires, but WHOEVER DOES THE WILL OF GOD ABIDES FOREVER. He's going to work to make you holy. He's going to little by little remove from you, your desire and fellowship with the world, and the lust thereof and He's going to replace that with a desire and a fellowship with Christ. Philippians 2:12-15 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, 13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure. 14Do all things without grumbling or disputing, 15 That you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world. Since your supposed conversion are you growing in your devotion to God,and your love for Christ? Are you growing in Holiness, striving for Holiness or are you the same person that you were when you began? 1 Peter1:14- 17 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 17And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile Do you still love the world? James 4:4 You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. John 14:15 IF you love me, you will keep my commandments. Realize we are in the process of being saved: Hebrews 10:39 We are not like those people who turn back and get destroyed. We will keep on having faith until we are saved.

Acts 2:37-41 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart [with remorse and anxiety], and they said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what are we to do?” 38And Peter said to them, “Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinfull ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ because of the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39For the promise [of the Holy Spirit] is for you and your children and for all who are far away [including the Gentiles], as many as the Lord our God calls to Himself.” 40And Peter solemnly testified and continued to admonish and urge them with many more words, saying, “Be saved from this crooked and unjust generation!” 41So then, those who accepted his message were baptized; and on that day about 3,000 souls were added [to the body of believers]. This absolutely applies to Gentiles as well as Jews as verse 39 says. Acts 11:18 When they heard this, they quieted down and glorified and praised God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance that leads to eternal life [that is, real life after earthly death].
