well he has learned from the greats and added in his own techniques. would love to see him have a guitar off with srv.clapton, stkins, setzer etc...would be a night worth 10X more than any usual concert.
@@philipsk are you kidding me? he writes amazing songs... check out continuum or room for squares, his songwriting is some of the best in the past 20 years, and a majority of it is written by Mayer only.
Jarecl Let's not forget all the behind the scenes songwriting John does for other artist. He definitely has a huge influence on the music industry and will for quite a while, even as his own music may or may not become less prevalent
This is first video that i saw John Mayer playing 5 years ago and i became his fan. Today i know every his song and he made me start palying guitar. Thank you Mr. Mayer

John Mayer has blues running through his veins, even if he hasn't faced hardship. Saying that Real Blues is from hardship is like what you said in your reply, part of it. Blues is Blues.

That’s a Cornish NG- 2 pedal he’s using to get that sound. He uses it and talks about it on the crossroads instructional video. It’s a really expensive pedal but it sounds great especially through really good amps
I've been watching this video for probably just over a year and it still amazes me that he made that sound come out of a stratocaster. john really just is something else
I love this song, since its lyrics go so far in the history of the blues, where famous blues musicians played a song on their guitar in the middle of the night at a crossroads. All of this in order to magically master the art of blues, while also selling their life to a demon.
Oh I love this video, I saw it a long time ago and when I searched for it again I could not find it. I love how he performs this, the tone and sound is amazing.
He began his career doing pop because pop sells more albums and gets more airtime, but he's been playing blues at his live shows since the beginning. The Blues is why he started playing guitar.
John did 2 solos. The first one was eclectic and reminded me of Jeff Beck. The 2nd one, he went blues and showed Clapton just how far mayer has advanced blues
I remember in the 90's during grunge era, generation at those time mostly don't listen to blues anymore..blues has become music for oldies and few young musicians..
Great and many guitar Gods played this song but to my taste the best will always be the live version by Cream played somewhere about 1968. The singular reason 'JACK BRUCE'. This great man R.I.P is what all other renditions lack.
