Another of John Prine's great songs that I also enjoy singing. It is almost a companion piece to Jackson Browne's "These Days" and Paul Simon's "Old Friends" - all three songs were written about old age, by writers who were very young at the time! Also all three songs are masterpieces in their own individual way. You cover this song beautifully, Mike! I hear real meaning and empathy in your delivery! Excellent job!
Hi Robert, yes indeed it is one of his best. You know I just now listed to Jackson Browns "These Days," written when he was 16. Wasn't really that familiar with it. Of course "Old Friends" is a song I am very familiar with. Frankly, I dont belive the US paid has much attention to "These Days" as the UK. It is interesting how songs charted differently in our respective countries. I understand that in country music that Slim Whitman was a big success in England, not here. Interesting. Thanks for your very nice comments Joseph. You know, I saw John in concert 4 times. He was very personal, entertaining and it was a joy to hear his stories and songs. I watched him deteriorate in physical apperance and voice yet he never gave up. He was a good man with great courage and obviously did not let his success ever go to his head. He was an entertainer to admire not only as a performer but as a person.
