This 1985 video is dedicated to David Huffman (1945-1985). A wonderful actor, a proud veteran, and the father of two sons. He was a good friend while we were appearing at San Diego's Old Globe Theatre in Steinbeck's play, Of Mice and Men. Sadly, we lost him before the end of the run because he was, in fact, a real hero. Jc
"Home" is a 1931 composition by Peter Van Steeden, with Harry and Jeff Clarkson.

I guess we’ll never know the answer to that, but he and his high school sweetheart met again when they were in their 40s, and got married 5 years later, when children were no longer a possibility.

I was probably 4 when I started watching The Rifleman. My mom cleaned houses, and I went with her, so I watched TV to stay out of her hair. I grew up on The Rifleman and The Price is Right. It was an old black and white show, but was better than pretty much everything else on TV. 'Mark' was my first ever crush.

I KNEW JOHNNY IN PERSON AS MY FATHER HAD A WESTERN TV SHOW IN THE KNOXVILLE,TN MARKET AND HE CAME TO A COOKOUT IN 1986 AT OUR BACKYARD AND I ATE BARBEQUE WITH HIM.I WAS AROUND MY LATE 20S AND HE WAS A FEW YEARS OLDER THAN ME. HE WAS SO SMART AND DOWN TO EARTH. I COULD TELL HOW SENSITIVE HE WAS WHEN HE PLAYED WITH MY Great Dane DOG IN THE BACKYARD FOR ALMOST AN HOUR. HE LOVED NATURE AND ANIMALS AND THE MOST SINCERE PEOPLE DO. WHAT A SPECIAL PERSON HE WAS. REST IN PEACE JOHNNY.

I had such a crush on Johnny! I loved to hear him sing, and still do......what a wonderful voice. So sad to know that Alzheimer's ruined the last bit of his life, and that he's gone. He was very much loved and I know he is very much missed.

I remember reading about David Huffman's death. It made me so very sad but at the same time proud that he tried to help someone and lost his life doing so. I loved him in "Ice Castles" and "St. Helens". I know he did so many more movies and TV shows, but those were my personal favorites. RIP Mr. Huffman. Thank you, Mr. Crawford for doing this for him.

Watched you all my life, Johnny. Now I'm trying to find a song you sang that was extra beautiful, but it was probably when you were around late teens or early twenties, with a young man's voice. I don't know any words to it or its name, but it was one I'll never forget...and I'm older now. Anyway, you were and are a class act, and you made great TV with great acting, a spiritual side, and a moral to each story. Thanks man. God Bless You.

The song was composed by Peter van Steeden in 1931 along with Harry and Geoffrey Clarkson. Crawford is one of many artists who've covered this classic composition. Its a piece that would've made even George Gershwin jealous.

How delightful! I only came to discover The Rifleman a couple of years ago. I thought he was one of the most talented child actors I'd ever seen. I didn't know he also sang! What a gifted performer he was. I was sad to hear of his illness and death. But I am glad for all the video available, so new generations will keep on discovering him.

Grew up in Los Angeles, graduated Westchester High. I was in A Cappella Choir and since, have had a deep appreciation for so much music! I love this song, I love the music of the 20’s-30’s... popular songs. And btw, your pretty much pitch perfect to my ear.. loved it!!!
