Sometimes people laugh when they are really nervous or times of severe emotional distress. For some reason their stress manifests as fits of laughter. They aren't trying to be disrespectful, it's just how their mind and body react in these situations. With you and your brother it's seems that you were going through this and also laughing at the situation of seeing your dad look like Dracula:) That would have made me laugh too, to see my dad looking like he was dressed for Halloween:) Lol:) So sorry for your loss.

That's hilarious- you know you've won when you get your teacher to start laughing with you 😂 I was in a similar yet slightly different situation in college lol. The professor was one who was known for being very serious and passionate. But while writing on the whiteboard, she kept accidentally dropping her marker and getting frazzled about it. The second or third time it happened she was visibly annoyed and made some comment like "Why do I keep dropping this marker?!" The contrast of her seriousness and then the klutziness of the situation was all very comical. Because it was the first day of classes, the tension was high, I was incredibly nervous, *and* the professor's mishap reminded me of my own klutziness and exactly how I'd react myself, I couldn't help but burst into laughter. Unfortunately, this made the professor even more upset and she angrily asked "Why are people laughing right now?" as if I was laughing at her, when really I was laughing *with* her because I related so hard to the chaoticness of the situation. It was like looking in a mirror but I was too scared to say "I'm only laughing because you remind me of myself." My mini laugh attack also caused the guy sitting behind me to let out a stifled, then loud honk of a chuckle so that was fun lol Fortunately we both were able to pull ourselves together right after but it was a funny moment.
