I honestly really liked the dancing mechanic in the first game. That game has great animation and the way the music changes when you perform each move is very satisfying. I sometimes stopped to dance for a bit just for the fun of it.

Apparently (as I found out myself then googled up) the *Shantae GBC* game has a bug in that it can outright _crash_ (to a blue screen) when collecting a Warp Squid. Yeah, that also deletes your save file. But hey, I'm not as frustrated with losing my save as I made a 'Restore Point' when I was in Oasis town, before I was in the labyrinth for an hour and corrupted my save file. ... ...Thank god for that Restore Point...

Thanks to this video I gave this series a chance, and I'm happy to say that I'm now a Shantae fan. Seriously though, I've been interested in this series for a while, since I'm a big fan of 2D sidescrollers and metroidvanias. This video just gave me the final push I needed.

I did not know about these amazing games back then, but your video has gotten me to playing Riskys Revenge, which in turn, got me into the Shantae series. Once again, thank you so much Johnny! WayForward is the example of a company that knows what it's doing as a company that pushes its own IPs from scratch - particularily with Pirate's Curse and their games get better over time because they garner more attention/support and mechanically improve. I personally want Shantae and other WayForward series to reach the beloved attention of more popular franchises.

Hmmm, I remember last year SomecallmeJohnny that you were loving Risky's Revenge and you were pretty pumped for Pirate's Curse. I guess after sinking your teeth in, you weren't completely in-love with it anymore? xD Just an observation I noticed. But it seems though you still enjoyed the first two games I think haha. Pirate's Curse seems a lot more up my alley with how streamlined it is, despite loving the metroid-vania the first game had (seriously though I had no idea where to go for the first two hours haha); so I'm still overly excited 1/2 Genie Hero is coming along (: But still, great video as usual! Can't wait to see more!

I've played Pirate's Curse and just beat Half Genie Hero and they're both fucking great.

As soon as John was about to point at the top of the screen, it finally clicked in my head. TITLES USED TO BE ABOVE THE VIDEOS. I've been on youtube for YEARS and ALWAYS noticed whenever there was a change, but I NEVER even NOTICED THAT! Holy fuck am I late to the party on that one.

Thanks to you, I loved DS catlevania titles to death and after they announced 3ds castlevania I was the happiest person on earth but we saw what that atrocity was and I was totally hopeless seeing what Konami is doing with their IPs and the fact we will never have old metroidvania castlevania games ever, but Shantae came to rescue. After watching your video I gave it a try and oh man this game is full of juice and when I start to play it hours pass like seconds. Shantae and teh pirate curse is hands down one of the best if not best metroidvania there and in my opinion it even surpassed DS castlevania games. And the soundtrack, even if its tunes are not serious like castlevania games they are so catchy and amazing. THANK YOU putting this gem in spotlight.

I love this series. They're something I wish I could've played at a younger age. Im happy to say that all 3 games are the type that I would repurchase if I had to.

To anyone whose wondering what the song at the end of the video is, it's a song called 'Dancing through the danger' from Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero.

Quite to the contrary, I liked the dancing in Shantae (GBC) more than that in Risky's Revenge. The elaborate dancing is what appeals to me.

I can't wait for Shantae: Half-Genie Hero! The Shantae series really is a hidden gem.

You know what I would go with in future Shantae games? You can pick to either play Risky or Shantae. As Risky you get all the equipment Shantae has in these games and as Shantae you get all the magic and transformations. Maybe Risky could be more of a antihero too.

Funny story: When I was younger, I went to Toys R Us (rest in peace local amiibo church) and we went to the 3DS section to pick out a new game. I saw a video about Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, so I wanted to get that. And my mom saw this game that was rated T mind you, and thought the girls on the cover were strippers so we ended up leaving with Kirby: Planet Robobot instead of the game I actually wanted to play.
