In 1997, I had a stent put into one of my arteries. It was shortly after I found this meditation on cassette tape. A few years later, it was on a CD. Then in 2013, I got my first smart phone. This meditation is my lifeline. I take a 45 minute nap with it during the day; listen when I wake up during the night. I’ve read some of his books. Meditation is necessary for good mental health
i'm hoping that soon it'll reach people all over the world and be taught at schools and all the way up to university students as mindfulness is a necessary constant practice
This is my favourite guided meditation. His voice is soothing and I am going back to this meditation night and morning to start my practice again. Thank you Dr. Kabat Zinn
I have been practicing meditation for years but was always irritated by the amounts of time my thoughts would hijack me and the frustration of once again failing to focus till Dr Zinn"s one phrase completely changed the meaning and practice of meditation for me. In a lecture he said that it’s not about how many moments of focus you’ve been able to achieve in meditation but how many times you’ve noticed that your mind has wandered. Practice of meditation is about being aware when your thoughts have driven you away and gently bringing your focus back. That’s the practice! How simple. How profound. Thank you Dr Zinn. It is changing my whole being and moment at a time.
@Paco A The truest fools are the ones who call one a fool just for not being mindful like another. That's the point of meditation, practice. Perhaps you should practice kindness mindfulness.
I've never stayed awake through the entire thing. I use it when I can't sleep. Works like a charm. A couple times, doing it with my bf beside me, I would start laughing and he'd get mad and leave the bedroom 😇😆
I had this cassette set in 2002 when I took up the arduous task of trying to start a meditation practice after 9-11 when, as a new practitioner with unrecognized PTSD, I could not stay seated in meditation. It was how I could practice. I eventually gave my tape to a woman in a meditation group I eventually joined after building my practice when she was in hospice care. It's a great reunion to hear this instruction.
Yes, I do it on a daily basis. I do skip over the first couple of minutes most times because I know them off by heart, lol, & I want to get to the scan. When I'm feeling a bit needy then I'll listen to it from the beginning because it's reassuring to hear it from him.
Me too. Practicing for like 2 years constantly, taking a break for 4 years (meditating just from time to time but not everyday). This year i came back to different types of mindfulness (but guided just by J.K. Zinn + daily mindfulness exercises ) and it feels like turning back home, to myself, to the world. I can tell this, it is a little different now that my last constantly practice. I feel like I’m more open, not that much judgmental, more awake and much more in contact with myself and the Universe. Might can come with a sense if maturity also. Im so grateful to discover this. I had practice so many types of meditation before ( from different types of yoga to vipassana) until I found this one which is the best for me. I am so grateful…
I studied mindful meditation in 2011 and Jon Kabat Zinn was used a our text and practice. I practiced and studied this for 4 months and found the body scan to be very effective pain relief at the time. Its now taken me 11 years to get back to starting this over again in my daily practice after being diagnosed with neuroendocrine cancer 4 years ago..this is very effective. 🙏
@@Dakradom It helped me become more aware of my body and of more subtle signs of stress and exhaustion. It helps me sleep and deal with mood-swings and other consequences of the cancer. I would definitely say "yes" to that, although it doesn't, of course, take all the bad stuff away, it just makes you deal with it a lot better, it makes life easier and more fun. Thanks for that question.
Been using mindfulness meditation body scan about 3 years. This was the first one i used and i must say it's the most deepest and thoroughly. I wonder why it has so low views. Thank you Jhon 🙏
It was the first one I used regularly before finding yoga nidra. From what friends have told me, they find JKZ's voice a bit grating, but to me, he sounds fine. Some people are very picky with the audio quality.
Wow that made me feel so amazing! I haven’t been able to stop crying since my father unexpectedly passed away. This made me feel so at peace with everything
Yesterday at work, I had to figure out lengthy program logic under time constraints. Didn't sleep but 4 hours last night. This morning, found this relaxing body scan. It made my body open and let go. What a blessing! JK has such a soothing voice and words. The perfect prep for working with and letting go of emotional energy blockages.
@@nnebundoannaobi1386 I posted the playlist link with the recordings I ended up using. I practiced for at least two hours a day for 90 days, and I used recordings from different styles of yoga nidra.
This is the original.version at real speed. I prefer this to the the sped-up version which is 10 min shorter. Beautiful body scan delivered by Jon Kabat Zinn's great, calmingvoice.
I have been using this meditation for a couple of days now. It feels great to be able to relax my whole body. I should be getting the cd's that I ordered on line from E-Bay this week. Looking forward to doing the meditation at my camper.
Jon Kabat-Zinn actually recommends you do the body scan before you begin your day proper. Obviously, he thinks anytime is good too, whatever time suits the individual. But he has stated a preference to beginning one's day with it. Good for you & good luck!
Beautiful reading about what help it’s been. This is the best body scan I’ve listened to-though I did fall asleep at one point. Sometimes it’s what we need. Will listen again. Try reading his books too - he is an amazing source of ideas and inspiration. (Coming to Our Senses is super-incredible.)
Mr Jon, thank you for your inspiring & healing meditation. I will be returning to this video again as it’s what my body & mind needs as it has been through lots of serious illness, cancer, brain abscess, lymphoedmna and bereavements.
Just gentle reminder to let you know when we shorten Jon Kabat-Zinn initials it's to JKZ. I am so happy that you enjoy his body scan. In my opinion, it's the best one out there.
Thank you from my heart and soul for this amazing deep body scan which has given more and more letting go. I appreciate this ver much. Gratitude and thanks. Deepest I have experienced since beginning meditation in 1976.
I listen to this every night… first for physical pain and now for comfort and relaxation. Thank you Jon for being so helpful. Your voice is very soothing and if I listen at night I’m guaranteed to have no trouble falling asleep! So there’s a second benefit to your method!!
There are several factors in studying Reiki. One resource I discovered that succeeds in merging these is the Briona Reiki Plan (see the website BrionaReikiPlan.review) definately the no.1 method that I have ever seen. Check out the website BrionaReikiPlan.review and incredible testimonials.
IM VERY THANKFUL for this....! I have listened this for the first time, and it’s given me such an incredible feeling of peaceful and relaxing well-being . God bless you for this priceless gift🌈💚
That is nice. I also really enjoy meditation. ❤️🤲 I've been enjoying a fair bit of Spiritual Master Sri Avinash lately with my meditating. #SriAvinashDo 🧡
That book and its teachings held my hand and walked with me through my stage 3 Breast cancer journey that began 3 years ago. Learning that thoughts aren't reality (neither are feelings for that matter) they're just thoughts conjured up by my (highly imaginative) mind helped me immensely. I stopped thinking and saying, "I'm afraid" and "catsrophising" by going to the worst possible scenario in my mind, & started saying instead, "my mind has provided me with some scary thoughts to think about", because that's what mind's do. So, I put out the "welcome mat" for all thoughts: negative, positive, happy, sad, terrifying etc. & acknowledged them all with equal respect & non judgment & then just let them go. I realised that all I could really be sure of in terms of time, but everything really is right now, THIS minute & did I want to waste the only thing of value I had, that I ever had but didn't fully discover before right now? Time is not linear, we, as human beings have just designed it to appear that way, to make navigating our lives easier to understand. But there is no Past & there is no Tomorrow, those are just imaginary concepts. The only reality is, again, right NOW. How to remember to stay in the right now? By maintaining focus on my breath. Can it be that easy? Well, yes but not without challenge. Focusing on the breath helped me through the biopsies, ultrasounds, CT Scans, bone scans, transfusions, the Chemo, the 5 weeks of daily radiation therapy, the burns after, & all the various procedures that accompany cancer. My breath became my anchor, the calm, under the often rough & choppy seas. The beauty of Mindfulness meditation is that it can be done anywhere, anytime, it's always accessible, & it actually rewires the neural networks & pathways in the brain - no surgery required! I cannot say enough about the strength & peace Mindfulness meditation brought me or about Dr. Kabat-Zinn. My gratitude is boundless.
@@lilo2469 I'm so touched and grateful that you would take the time to post such an encouraging and kindhearted response. Thank you for your caring acknowledgement and validation.
I’ve been through your course with your book twice years ago. I always come back to this body scan when my focus is decreased. It’s the best. Thank you.
Thank you!! This video felt so satisfying!! I appreciate you taking the time for several breaths in and out of the different regions, layers.. nooks and crannies of our bodies. I’d love to hear a full length video similar to this style that focuses on each area more in depth for example 30 min video for neck and head, 30 mins arms and shoulders, 30 min ribs and chest… taking the time to really breathe in and around each rib!!! The series might include pelvis, groin then another for legs and another for feet. All full length videos. If this already exists in your library would you mind sharing links to it or anything similar I might enjoy? Thank you so much for sharing your time and guidance with these meditations. I practice daily and just discovered your channel today. I stayed for two 45 min videos because your voice, pace, and terminology resinated with me and I feel wonderful, light, full of patience and love for this day. 🙏✌🏻
Such a powerful yet gentle meditation which has helped me in different ways for so..oo many years. Grateful thanks for your pioneering work in this important well being work JKZ
This is the first time I listened to this meditation. It was very helpful and peaceful. I feel better after listening, even though I have chronic pain that I’ve had for 60 years. Thank you very much! 🙏💕
I hope this body scan meditation is going really well for you! Meditation is very powerful and it's great you are taking the time to practice. I'd love you to check out some of the guided meditations on my channel sometime.
very relaxing, I fell asleep and although I woke up at night once, I was able to stop ruminating and fell asleep again quite easily. Will do this daily!
As JKZ says it's (Mindfulness Meditation) an invitation to "fall awake", I've also personally heard him say that it's "ok" to fall asleep while doing it - it may be just what your body needs at that particular time. I think that if you do happen to fall asleep then that sleep will be more restorative and relaxing and that you will wake up more refreshed. It's been, at the time of this writing, 2 years since you posted your comment. It would be interesting to learn if you did manage to keep it a part of your life and whether you've experienced any other benefits from the practice. Thank you for sharing your experience.
..for me its a nice back to basics meditation/relaxation... I also like the ones where we imagine in a beautiful garden etc., but this is a direct approach and its nice to just focus on our bodies.. thankyou
I bought the tapes on a friend's recommendation. Immediately helped me enormously with anxiety. I do it a few times a week - or every day if I'm not too tired.
Thank you so much. I havw bwgun to practice this amazing body scan both morning and night. It is indescribably healing and softening. So much pain in back, shoulders and head slowly releasing.
