@@SumitKumar-rr9xf that is the only sad thing about SA & even Jhonty,,,inspite of his heroics SA could not win any WCs😟😭😭that is called badluck,,,greame Smith,Kallis, cullinun,,Pollock,,McMillan,,Donald,,klusner,,,,list is long & Jhonty top most fielder of his time ,,,,still S A missed the bus by whisker in 1999semis.........
The way he collects the ball, as clean as a whistle, even LARA, TENDULKAR and the like, left to feel as mere MORTALS. Take a bow, Jonathan Neil 'Jonty' Rhodes.
Lot of indian gully cricket tried diving like south african team especially jonty. In any street cricket any best catcher and direct hitter called as "jonty"
This man made fielding look exciting n sensational. He has become the gold standard in fielding with whom every good fielder is compared these days. But there was n will always be only one Jonty. 👌
All are talking abt his contribution towards fielding..there is no doubt but he also helped batsman to think and raise a bar in running between the wicket for single and doubles
I learnt art of fielding frm him n fortunately I became a good fielder and back point became my favourite fielding position.. Jhonty fielding inspiration ❤️
I remember seeing him being interviewed about it and he said he felt his aim was struggling for accuracy at the time so he didn't trust the throw at the wickets and though "bugger it I'll just run it in instead"...or words to that effect
Forget fielding coach. Jonty was the inspiration of a generation of cricketers. He showed that fielding can win matches, make you a star. Ask Yuvraj and Kaif who was their inspiration for fielding, they would probably say Jonty.
Jonty redefined fielding, nowadays you see all the players using similar techniques and being coached like him. At the time fielding standards were nowhere near this level, he changed everything.
This man is a master. Who said fielding is boring? I believe that he practices these skills and maybe had played a little baseball where one's precise throwing skills are necessary.
I'm clearly insinuating that the last thing Jonty did to get this good is practice baseball. "...one's precise throwing skills are necessary" in baseball only if you are a catcher. Precision is not important when throwing to the bases from the infield (where Jonty played) since, for example, the 1st baseman can stretch 2 metres either way to catch the runner and get him out. The inflield throwing in baseball needs to be 'accurate'. To get a run out in cricket (direct hit) then it needs to be super precise.
@@victorn6997 : VN: I see your point, which I didn't think of: In baseball, the SS or infielder has that target leeway with the first baseman assisting and covering for an errant throw, whereas the wicket sticks are stationary, stuck in the soil, and stretcheth not.
But sad thing is ,SA did win any cups during his playing days, even though he had no one compititer in other teams!!jontys presence had won by half for SA team, still they could not get through ,more over he had a handsome batting talent too!!!??????
This video is over 7 minutes, then there is a video of over 5 minutes of only his spectacular fielding, then there is a video of over 10 minutes of only his spectacular catches,, which is still not the whole package of his great fielding. This only shows how many just how many mind blowing moves he made in the field in every match. He easily saved over 40 runs in every match. Last point: Jonty Rhodes was and is the only fielder in the world where opposition teams would give warning to all their batsman "Never take a run if the ball is near Jonty Rhodes." I'm anxiously waiting to hear or see another fielder being so feared in cricket today. 🔥🔥Jonty Rhodes you were and are a true legend 🔥🔥
No other fielder was so much great in Fielding like Jonty ....not only in his time as well as til date. Inzamam ul Haq was his favorite victim (92 & 99 world cup)....of doing run out. He used to save more or less 15/20 runs on average per odi....great ....he would be remembered by all cricket lovers .
Without question, Jonty is the best overall fielder ever. Ponting was especially brilliant at hitting the stumps, McCullum also exceptional, and many others as well, but for his incredible speed on the ground, breathtaking ability to take the most unbelievable catches, and the awesome agility to get to the ball and release it so quickly, Jonty is unequalled. He definitely revolutionised the art of fielding. Legend!!!!!!
Bro ponting Symonds and Gibbs are right up there with Rhodes !! Deal with it !! Jonty was a infield fielder but Symonds was as gud in the outfield too so he is the most complete fielder
The 2nd last against Inzimam in 1992 world cup is just beauty. The wills cigarette time table for 1996 world cup calender has this photo of Jhonty and Inzimam run out on it.
Jonty was often considered an all rounder...even though he never bowled a single ball in professional cricket! That's the legend, the man, the myth! I think as a sign of respect I think that fielding position should be renamed Jonty's point!!
I remember as a kid watching Johnathan Neil Rhodes fielding. When i used to play cricket i used to dive for nothing even if it was straight to me...I used to dive. Fielding inspiration
I used to love watching South Africa just for his fielding. He redefined one-day cricket and transformed the cover point/backward point/gully/backward gully etc position. The ball used to follow him, it seemed to me (credit to the bowlers too). But let's not forget, his running between the wickets was also a joy to behold.
"Is it a bird or is it a plane? No, it is Johnty Rhodes". Was the next day headline after Johnty dived onto the stumps to runout Inzamam in 1992 world cup. That runout was the introduction of Johnty to the world. What a fielder!!!!!
Such agile fielding was unheard of before Jonty's era. It was inconceivable to imagine 'cat-like reflexes' on the field could dismiss batsmen! Earlier the adage was 'catches win matches', then there were yorkers, etc. The last thing batsmen were scared of was fielders while taking casual singles and twos. Jonty brought a paradigm shift in the game, much to the delight of fielding teams defending a target or controlling the run-rate, or even having another weapon at hand to dismiss hard-to-dismiss batsmen. I'm sure in all this, Jonty was himself unaware of the greatness of his immortal contribution to the game.
Jonty Rodes was gifted player simply exceptional!! That south African team was great hard to believe that wouldn't won any major tournament.. So many great players!!
