He can be a #1 in the postseason but during a regular season a top #2 scott borras hes trying to sell him like he is Cliff Lee or Cole Hamels

He isn't a true ace, but doesn't have to be as he's a solid #2 that can be "that guy" when it really counts in the post season. There aren't 60 starting pitchers better than him, and in fact he had the eighth lowest ERA among qualified starters in 2023. He doesn't throw as hard as some, but manages to get a lot of groundball outs, which are just as good and more economical than strikeouts. He can still miss bats, but that isn't the focus, and his durability is key. Those that throw harder often come with high risk of injury. The Cardinals were foolish to throw 40M at extending Mikolas when they had a top level starter already on their roster in Monty, who wanted to sign with them and might have actually given them a discount back then, but were too cheap to be interested in extending his services and didn't even bother approaching Boras about an extension. Boras has both Monty and Snell as clients, and is smart to try and milk teams for the most he can get, as the pitching market for high quality starting pitching is very thin. The most I would give him based on his age (31) is five years guaranteed.

@@BryanSmith-hs5nr Very well thought out, I feel like Monty has been consistent basically his whole career so far starting with the Yankees. He will give you a 3.3-4.0 ERA and durable innings, I just think they've been headlining him as a premier Ace which I disagree with. It makes me wonder what Boras believes he is worth, 5 years 120? What's a fair price?

@@alphaal1589 Do you think he has proven that? other than last year he only had 2 postseason appearances, but still he was really good for the Rangers so credit due there. I agree with you what Boras is doing, his value is at his highest its ever been right now but I just don't put him on the level of a Cole Hamels but that is a great comparison.

@@BrianRMeo Monty isn't worth more than peak Bumgarner who was paid less than 25 million a year. Anything more than 15 million a year is foolish in my eyes and no team should sign him for 5 years unless their farm is completely empty of starting pitching.

I was wondering how Soto feels. He bought a home in beautiful Coronado last offseason. Wanted to be in SD by all indications, but now resides in NY. Boras and Soto would not sign an extension. I am sure the money will make him forget about that home.😊

Boras is keeping these players from being with a team. Its sad. Cody, Jordan, Blake all dont have a team because he wants top dollar for his players aka himself. And spring training starts in 2 weeks.

I think it’s just that this FA market is extremely weak. I don’t think Boras would be this aggressive with these clients if there were any FAs without warts on the market. Might seem deleterious but if a team gets an injury or wants to push themselves over the edge with other signings I could easily see someone panicking and overpaying for the pitchers. As far as alienating teams? Nah that’s mostly piffle for people on call in shows , he’s not playing the games and he’s got great clients, you’re not going to not sign a guy like Soto because you don’t like his agent doing his job.

Time for owners to quit overpaying! You can only inflate a baloon so much before it burst. Owners also have to work within a budget to make a profit.

Money isn't the issue, every owner has plenty of money to afford whomever they want. No one wants to give Monty $25 mil a year.
